Kids in CL?

Recommended Posts

Yes, some are bothered that children are being allowed in one of the very few adult only venues of the ship. Just because you have kids doesn't mean they should be allowed access to every part of the ship. I believe the adults who have access to the CL should be able to enjoy the company of others and be able to enjoy a cocktail and socialize in an ADULT atmosphere for a few hours a day. And you didn't quote me correctly. I said let those who have EARNED the perk enjoy it. I was definitely NOT referring to children.

Well the problem is obviously that some people want the place for suite (and D+) perks to be an adult only environment. While some others of those who are also granted those perks don't want it to be. And let's be honest, this revolves primarily around the free drink perk and not just the adult atmosphere. Because I've been up at the Viking Crown lounge, and even the Schooner bar, during times that the CL cocktail hour is going on and it is primarily devoid of kids.

I still believe RCCL should have an adults only lounge during evenings, even if it is not a free-drink environment. The Viking Lounge would work well for it, as it is generally isolated from the rest of the ship due to it's location. I'm not sure who would complain about that.

This change was not done for the benefit of the children, it's for the parents who had earned it and were unable to enjoy it.

If I had to guess, I would say a large percentage of CL guests would prefer it remain adult only. As evidenced in the poll taken here on CC. It doesn't matter whether they are well behaved or not. They could be the sweetest angels on earth, that still doesn't mean they should be in the CL during cocktail hour.

I don't really take polls here on CC too serious but anyway, my comment was in response that my guess is a small percentage of pax are or will be bothered by kids misbehaving not whether or not the CL should remain adult only.

Great post!!!

I don't care if people bring their kids on vacation. They deserve to enjoy the time together. I just don't want to be forced to enjoy them as well. It was nice to have ONE area that was adults only.

I don't think people who are upset by the new policy ,hate kids. They wanted an adult venue to enjoy adult conversation and adult beverages.

Tripping over strollers isn't my idea of an "adult" time.

Well, there is still the Solarium, the Casino, the Disco in the evenings, and for the most part, the Spa. (I know, none of these are really lounges, or made for relaxing and talking with a group of people over drinks, but there are some, there is also the D-Lounge on some ships for those who can use it)

There are more Adult-only areas then Kids-only areas, from a kids viewpoint *grin*

My apologies. I think you took me the wrong way. I wasn't saying everyone is like that. I too have met some of the nicest people in the CL, many of whom are on this thread. Besides, If I meant everyone, that would include me. ;)

What I was saying is there is almost always one or two, which is probably what would be the problem with kids.....just those one or two.

Thanks for the clarification. It's important to note that one or two on each cruise or occasional cruises is not bad at all. I'm not referring to you in particular but there are those on these boards that bash D and D+ at every chance they get by generalizing boorish behavior. I'm not sure if all of the negative posters are suite pax or if they just revel in trashing folks in the D+ tier. Remember those awful threads when the Diamonds were ousted from the lounges?

The same for kids in the lounge, some will misbehave, but not all are little demons either.

I'd like to meet you in a lounge someday. :)

Is it? That's interesting. Does it double as the disco on that ship? I know there are a few (like the Serenade that I was just on) that the VCL is also the disco. So it's adults only in the evening. Actually on that ship the VCL handled the Diamond event most nights, so it was adults only after 5pm!

For what people are interested, I would think making it after 5pm would be what is needed, much like the cocktail hour in the CL.

You are exactly right. I'm sure we're both thinking of the same CC members. They get off on being trouble makers. My goodness, I hope I didn't come across sounding like them!!!!

Anywho, I'll look forward to meeting you one day in a lounge. :)

Before children would be permitted in the CL my daughter would walk into the lounge at 6pm. and we would walk as a group to dinner. Some nights it was only us and our table mates in there and our daughter and their children would then start coming down at 5:45---5:40 5:30, the conciernage says if any other suite guest would come in the kids would have to leave.

It had to have been the slowest week in there,

We never abused the lounge.............

Now we shall see what the summer brings.............

With a 17 year old girl scrambling to get ready.......I dont think we will be seeing her in the lounge much befoe 5:59.

Safe travels

Interesting, I have not seen that, although I was also not looking for it. I do go to the VCL fairly often though, as I enjoy the views from up there (primarily during the day) I think this could be something they could expand on. There are enough lounges that are open to handle the activities after 5pm that allow families to go to. (Like evening trivia that is sometimes held there, etc)

I can't believe we're no one has complained that they can't take their kids there. Apparently some parents think their kids should be able to go wherever they do.

That's really not the point. Apparently some suite guests, travelling as a family, expected the concierge lounge perk to be family-friendly as well. I know that on my first cruise many years ago, I was surprised that it wasn't.

I can understand a family, who books a suite, and wants to use the CL, wanting to have a drink or two and bring their kids if they want to. If other people don't like it, there are many other places to relax, but they will have to pay for their drinks, and they don't want to do that.

Maybe people should mind their own business and let those who have earned the perk enjoy it in the manner they want, as long as they aren't bothering anyone else.

...I hope that applies to children too......Oh yea they don't count....

......and to use the term "earned"?...... that says alot!!!!;)

It is exactly the point. Everything you say about CL members without children applies to those with them. They too, can enjoy a drink somewhere else, where children were already allowed, they would just have to pay for it. What if an almighty suite guest feels that they want to go to the disco, but can't bring their child? Should we then change that venue to family friendly also? While we're at it, the casino, the Solarium? Why not the entire ship? Also, the CL perk WAS family friendly. All day, just not during cocktail hour.

I just love these comments by certain members who have been in a concierge lounge maybe once in their entire life come on here posting as concierge lounge experts. Hilarious.

We've been Diamond Plus for nearly four years now and have been in quite a few concierge lounges over the years and only once can I recall ever seeing an adult asked to leave for being obnoxious and intoxicated. It's usually a very civil environment.

I would hope that the majority of concierges would enforce the rules for both adults and children but I have my doubts since their livelihood is at stake. I think it's a shame the powers that be at RCL headquarters put the concierges in this situation. I really feel for them.

Also D+ here and have always found the CL a nice enviroment. Have met many at the CL that have become "cruise" friends. Have honestly never found anyone obnoxious or with one adult beverage to much. IMHO...Also very rarely have I noticed children in the CL, which I firmly believe is and should be an adult venue...K.O. from Pa.

And most of those posters who complained are arguing that the CL should remain an adult only area during the evening.

It doesn't mean they hate kids. It means that they want to relax and have a few drinks and socialize without kids around.

And some have already experienced what most feared. Crying kids..kids running in the lounge..kids spilling sodas in the lounge..taking food and then putting it back...they are reporting their experiences. Obviously other pax aren't looking forward to having the same kinds of experiences.

Well put Bakincakes, my sentiments exactly, thank you...K.O. from PA.:)

It seems by the posts that the issue certainly is that the CL lounge should be an adults only venue.

Children are allowed in the solarium. They just aren't allowed to use the pools. Even though I've witnessed them using the hot tubs on more than one occasion with the parents consent. The pool attendants are usually hesitant to enforce the adults only rule for fear of the wrath of the parents.

....ever think about a cruise on Holland America? Not too many kids on that cruise line and you don't have to worry about that pesky tripping hazard. God knows a broken hip takes along time to recover from. Oh yea....but you have to pay for adult beverages on board Holland America.....but everything is a trade off in life.....inside sub water line cabin..$350.00,....all soft foods at dinner $25.00 tip.... NO LITTLE BRATS...PRICELESS......

Well, no not exactly. What you want is it to bring it back to restricting certain people from being able to use the perk. What they want is to open it up to everyone. Subtle difference, but people who want it family friendly are not denying people without kids into the place. You may still use the CL as always, nothing is stopping you from going in there, getting a drink and relaxing and talking to other adults. There just will be other (younger) people in there with you now. Let's face it, the CL with free drinks is one of the main perks, if not THE main perk, for a suite (as well as a D+) guest. And too many suite guests were being denied use of it because of the non-family friendly policy in the evening. It's now been opened up to anyone who wants to use it.

You've been on more cruises then I have, so you may have it been done differently, but I have rarely seen any kids in the solarium at all, and can only remember two occasions they got in the pool/hot tub (and they were promptly removed both times, not sure if someone complained but they were out of there within a minute or two) The few times I have seen a kid in there it was by a table near the entrance to the solarium in a corner, and I only knew they were there because I walked by them in that direction.

I've been on ships where there is a sign that states it is an adults-only area, so I did not realize kids were allowed in there at all.
