Drink Package was best cruise deal ever!

Just got back from my first cruise. I must say it was AMAZING.

Ok ok, we cheated a little on the package, ok a lot :). Hubby bought the Premium package for "himself" however when I was out and about by myself without him, I used his card, no questions asked. When you go to the bars late at night, they arent really paying attention and just swipe the card. The premium drink package covers EVERYTHING except the cellar masters wine machines, and in some of the upscale restaurants if I am not mistaken.

They do only say one drink at a time. But if you make nice with the bartenders, esp at the pool, they will have no issue bringing you 2 out at a time. Esp if you are getting a drink, and say a water or something.

The only time we ran into issues was at dinner in the Cosmopolitan restaurant. There they made us use both our cards.

Honestly for us, I dont think it would have been worth is buying the package for the both of us, because I calculated that we spent approx, $500 on beverages. and the package for the both of us would have been over $700.

I was perusing the boards, considering whether or not to buy the drink packages, and I found this.

I'm simply appalled.

You justify cheating by saying it would have cost you money, if you didn't? Isn't that why all people steal things?

I don't know about the Cellar itself, but I know it wasn't accepted in the machines at all.

As far as me cheating. Yes I did cheat. I will admit it. Am I bragging, no, I'm just making a truthful statement about my experience and I can tell you that a lot of other people were doing as well. The whole discussion was whether or not purchasing the package was worth it. So I was just elaborating on my experience. To each their own. I dont think I was "stealing" from the cruise line. Frankly, most of the bartenders knew what I was doing and didnt give me a hassle about it. I had no issue using my own card if need be.

Edited to add:

Cheating...Inst it cheating if you bought the drink package and cancelled it and then bought it again when it went on sale?? Thats "cheating and bragging" too.

This type of cheating/stealing is the reason some cruise lines insist that everyone in a cabin purchase the drink package if anyone does. This is the type of behavior that will force Celebrity to do the same.

Ok so let me get this right.

I am allowed to bring two 750ml bottles of wine into my cabin in my carryon and consume in my cabin for free?

The drink package can only be bought by 1 person in the room? ( my mom does not drink that much)

One more thing, do a lot of people get the bar setup, is it worth-it?

Thanks for the help.

We were on the Equinox last month (great experience!). This was our first cruise in many years and we did not buy any drink packages. We did keep track of our drinking/spending because we wanted to see if it would make sense. We brought the two allowable bottles of wine onboard. We also took advantage of the 2 for 1 happy hours. Unlike other happy hour programs, we were able to order 2 completely different drinks for the price of one. That was perfect since my husband and I like different drinks. At the end of the cruise, we felt that there was no way that the drink package would make economic sense for us. With daily 2 for 1 drinking opportunities and the wine allowance, we had as much alcohol as we could drink. For us to breakeven with the packages, we would need to drink all day. That may work for some, but we find other ways to enjoy ourselves. :)

You are allowed two 750ml bottles of wine per stateroom to be brought aboard upon embarkation. Wine cannot be brought aboard to your stateroom from other ports, it will be held until the final day of the cruise. Yes, you can drink this wine in your stateroom free. You steward will provide you with glasses and a corkscrew is you ask. Yes, either or both guests in the stateroom may choose to purchase the packages, and they do not need to be the same package.

The bar setups are a bottle of booze and some mixers. Compared to buying each drink separately they offer a savings, but you must be happy with simple mixed drinks that you make for yourself in your stateroom vs cocktails made by the bartenders at the bars.

Good Sailing

Tom

My wife and I purchased the Premium Package for our upcoming Summit cruise and are very excited. We think the greatest value will be the speciality coffees since we do like a nice coffee after dinner and being able to have a latte or espresso in the morning will be fantastic. Pus bottled water. The drinks themselves are just a bonus. Also love that it allows us to budget the cruise ahead of time and have no surprises on the last day. Celebrity's package is definitely the best value from what we compared from RCI and Carnival.

Because of my job and the need to drive sober when at home I seldom drink much. On a cruise I can walk to my cabin and no one ever asks me to steer the ship. So you might say I go overboard...almost literally.

A typical day starts with a cappuccino or two. By 11 it's a bloody Mary. With lunch a Margarita or a beer. Around 4:30 ,it's 2 or 3 martinis. With dinner at six, three glasses of wine and a specialty coffee with dessert as well as a sparkling water throughout.

Then it's on to the casino for a cognac or jack and coke. At the show maybe a vodka and tonic or a cordial. Following that it's to the disco or karaoke and some specialty rum drinks.

Finally an espresso at cafe baccio and a water for the room at night. On beach days we also take liter bottles of water to the beach. I kept track for a while and see that it would have cost me130 to 150 per day before tip.

At the discount rate of $49/day I figure I'm way ahead until I have to pay for the liver transplant.

My wife has always wanted to go on a cruise with me, but I told her that the booze alone would too costly. Well last year I gave in and we went on a 4 night cruise - the total for a suite [this was carnival] was a little over 1,000. The bar bill at the end was 1,200 !! I am glad X has this package, now I know the cost before I leave and can relax without any surprises at the end. I know I will still spend about 100 a day onboard in the casino and other stuff but that is also budgeted.

That sounds like a lot but I know from my experience that its all washed down with a lot of food...I only got buzzed once, when I had the equivalent of a bottle of sparkling wine in Qsine. Good times!!!

I can't honestly believe how many people cheat when it comes to the packages - shows exactly where our society is headed.

DH and I had the drink package on our last Celebrity cruise and it was great! Very worth it for me....not so worth it for him but we still both might get it again. I love the fact that we don't have to worry about a bill at the end of the cruise for drinks. I like as much prepaid ahead of time as possible, even if it does cost a little more.

We will be on an Alaskan cruise and for the first time - cruising by ourselves (normally we always go with friends) so I'm not sure if we'll be drinking more or less, lol!

Anyone think the drink packages will go on sale here soon?

I think a lot of people (myself included) are anticipating or at least hoping for one in January. However, since they just did one in November, it's hard to guess whether they will do one again so soon.

Would they have sent an email saying they were doing one? We didn't get one - otherwise, I would have hopped on it.

Typically have gotten emails in the past, but not always when the sale starts. The one in November I got just a few days before it ended, and unfortunately not in time to book it before my November sailing. Sales have always been reported here on the forums pretty promptly though.
