memoie Posted September 14, 2011 #1 Share Posted September 14, 2011 I have a cabin with a "restricted" view - what exactly does that mean? I can see from the deck plans that the lifeboats are right outside our window. Are they above the height of the window and will we still have some sort of a view? or will we just be looking straight at the lifeboats all the time? Thanks everyone ahead of time. AlanAllyn Posted September 14, 2011 #2 Share Posted September 14, 2011 It depends on the ship.
CruiserBruce Posted September 14, 2011 #3 Share Posted September 14, 2011 It does depend on the ship. And yes, it means the lifeboat is obstructing some portion of your view. How much will vary by ship, and location on the ship.
firefly333 Posted September 14, 2011 #4 Share Posted September 14, 2011 Hard to answer since we dont even know what cruiseline, or as someone else said what ship (which would tell us what cruiseline). ship and category?
BaumD Posted September 14, 2011 #5 Share Posted September 14, 2011 A restricted view can be anything as minor as some rigging outside your window that blocks 1% of your view to a lifeboat or other ship's structure that blocks 100% of your view. CruiserChloe Posted September 15, 2011 #6 Share Posted September 15, 2011 What ship and in what room? I'm sure someone here could tell you exactly what your obstructed view would be.
memoie Posted September 15, 2011 Author #7 Share Posted September 15, 2011 Sorry about not including the ship and more details. We are sailing on MSC Opera. We are on Cat 6 cabin #7127 and from the deck layout on their website I can't even find our cabin so am assuming that it must be in a "blank" spot on the deck plan - either that or I'm just not looking in the right place. It seems funny that we would be classed as a Category 6 but have the cabin number of 7127 - don't understand that at all.

Looks like you will looking at the side of the life boat #7125 you will see something between the boats if you can change On the deck plan just move the cursor in the deck plan up or down
trish1c Posted September 15, 2011 #10 Share Posted September 15, 2011 Sometimes you get lucky & you are between the lifeboats so you get a 6 inch slice of a "view". Othertimes you are looking straight out at the side of a lifeboat. You do get a bit of natural light & can look down to see water.
Jhawktraveler Posted September 15, 2011 #11 Share Posted September 15, 2011 We had one of these on the Grand Princess for our E Med cruise. We don't really spend much time in the room so the restricted view wasn't really an issue for us and saved some money. I had looked at deck plans and tried to get a room that looked like it was between the lifeboats.
Dayenu Posted September 15, 2011 #12 Share Posted September 15, 2011 Once we risked to get a cabin that looked on the deck plan like between 2 boats. Not exactly. There was a boat outside the window blocking all view except the very top, BUT it was positioned so that we could see a little through 3 windows: from our cabin through 2 windows on 2 sides of the boat. I said, I've developed a tunnel vision :p This was a cruise to Alaska, so in Sitka they took the boats down to use as tenders... waking us up at 7 am! mrejtac Posted September 15, 2011 #13 Share Posted September 15, 2011 I had the same question. But we will be sailing on the Norwegian Pearl, cabin 8568. Any ideas... thanks!
terri1020 Posted September 18, 2011 #14 Share Posted September 18, 2011 My only experience with an obstructed view was with lifeboats in front of the windows. Although we got bits of light and a limited view, the thing we did NOT consider was the guys who clean/paint/oil or do whatever they do while sailing. A few times they looked us in the eye...needless to say, we closed the drapes and had NO view. Never again, inside or unobstructed view for us! rvsullivan Posted September 18, 2011 #15 Share Posted September 18, 2011 7123 and 7125 would have some view. Yours will not.
rvsullivan Posted September 18, 2011 #16 Share Posted September 18, 2011 Pearl 8568 will be looking between the lifeboats and should have some view.
