Changing planes

On the 29th we fly from Fairbanks to Seattle then change planes with an Hour and a half layover for the flight to lax. The Seattle leg goes into terminal c3 and the la flight leaves from n1. All on Alaska airlines. My questions are

1. Do we need to claim our luggage from the first flight and recheck on the second leg or will the airline transfer the luggage.

2 We leave the first terminal and go to the next. Do we need to. Go through the entire checking process or do we just go to the gate with our carrying? I will check in and print out the boarding passes the day before.

This is the first time we have ever had to change planes.

Thanks for your responses

1. No, after you check in your luggage at the departure airport, you won't see it again until your final destination.

2. No, you don't need to check in again. You will not have to leave the secure area, thus no need to go through security again. You just take the train from one terminal to another. It's impossible to miss what way to go.

Just to amplify 6rugrats...it is a very simple connection at SEA. You need to be aware that you aren't heading out of the secure area, but it's nothing tricky.

If your arriving flight comes into "C" and goes out of "N", you will need to take a train (within the secure zone). From your arrival gate, look for the signs for the N gates. Most likely, this will take you in towards central terminal area and baggage claim. You'll reach a junction DO NOT go through the portal out of security - instead, you will turn left and move in the direction of the D gates. After a bit, you'll be directed to signs where you will take escalators (or an elevator if needed) down to the north train station. Take the train to the N satellite, go up the escalator and find your N gate.

Easily done with an hour and a half.

We are assuming this was purchased as one through ticket from Fairbanks to LAX, not two separate tickets. Even if it was the latter you can usually get your bags tagged all the way to LAX by showing your itinerary. You will be able to confirm that your bags are going to LAX, and even see the tags they print out (with "LAX" at the bottom), in case that helps to ease your mind. If you were entering the U.S. from overseas and connecting to a second U.S. airport, the process is different, but that's not a concern for you.

I just rechecked flight times etc. Only have Abt an hour layover when it comes down to it. According to flight tracker the Fairbanks plane is sched to land at 1:18 but it has been closer to 1:30. The lax leg is sched for takeoff at 2:45. Also noted the Fairbanks flight goes to different terminals. Yesterday was c11 today d and the other day n. So guess I'll just wait and see

Since all of the concourses at SEA are inside a single secure zone, you should be fine on your connection. I wouldn't think that any AS to AS connect would take more than 12-15 minutes at most once you are in the concourse itself, including train ride.

If you are arriving at the end of the C concourse and departing from N (or vice versa), note that there is a train station at the end of C. No need to walk to the main terminal north station. DISCLAIMER: They have been doing work on the south loop train stations, and there may be a similar situation on the north loop. Check signs and with an agent to confirm. Haven't been on the C concourse in the last couple months.
