Heard yesterday that the Lyttleton port will be pretty much closed through this season (smaller ships only) and only about 50% next year.

 

It sounds like things will be a bit different as a new city center emerges.

 

The Gondola is scheduled to re open Dec. 26th.

larger ships are tendering at Akaroa for now. As Lyttleton comes online some will go back there, but the long term plan is for an dedicated cruise pier at Lyttleton.

The rebuild of Christchurch is taking longer than expected as its still rocking and rolling. All they can do until the earthquakes stop , is clear the rubble.:eek:

The aftershocks continue, I note that not all the webcams at Lyttelton are working, some not since the big quake in June.

 

Akaroa is to host approximately 80 cruise ship visits this cruise ship season.

 

The rebuild of Christchurch will take years.

We visited Christchurch just a few days before the earthquake and have been there previously as well. Our thoughts continue to go out to all of those affected by this devastating earthquake and all of the aftershocks.
