Navigator of the seas questions please!

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

I am trying to help some friends of mine who are going on a cruise with their sons age 14 and 18. They will be on the Navigator of the Seas on Dec. 18th and here are a few of questions.

1) What is the cost of the game machines (not casino) is there a way for the parents to put a certain amount each day for the boys to use in the Arcade?? or is it strickly cash or Sea pass Card?

2) Anyone know if there is a Theatre showing movies during the day and/or night and what has been the experience as to kind of movies. i.e. is it really old movies, or recent?

3) The 14 year old has major food allergies. Anyone have experience on any Royal Caribbean ship with the preparation of the food regarding food allergies?

4) This itinerary stops at Falmouth...any experience with the Excursions from Falmouth....the good ones, bad ones, etc.??

Thanks to all who respond !!!!

Happy Cruising!

As far as the arcade, you can put a specific amount on the Seapass card for minors and when it's gone, it's gone until you decide if/when to put more on the card for them to use. The arcade isn't cheap.

We didn't do a tour or excursion at Falmouth. We walked around the shopping area and had the rest of the day on the ship. There is a shuttle that will take you to Rose Hall and you can of course book excursions to Dunns River Falls, but it's about an hour on a bus each way. We had been there before so we didn't bother. We enjoyed the hassle free shopping at Falmouth (which doesn't happen anywhere else in Jamaica) and then had a very uncrowded pool to hang out at.

We weren't on Navigator. We were on Freedom so I can't answer for the movies, etc.

Movies are on about the same schedule as airline offerings. Perhaps a little behind rental "new releases" but no worse than HBO, Cinemax or Starz new showings. Movies are shown at same time on cabin TV. Theater is small but has theater type seats which beats sitting on bed to watch small TV screen.

We have utilized the special needs dept several times for requests (not food related) and they have been very helpful. If it is in their power to do something they will get it done. Our experience anyway.

We were on the Navigator this past July. LOVED the ship!

I am highly allergic to mushrooms. They accommodated me with no problems. I just asked each meal when I ordered. Once when the waiter told me no mushrooms he came back and said he had double checked and there was some mushroom sauce in the sauce. I just ordered something different. There are plenty of choices. I just handled it the same way I do as when I eat out at any restaurant. At the buffet they list ingredients and if in doubt ask. I did not do the special needs form for myself.

My oldest DD has to have a gluten-free diet. Due to that and her other special needs we went through Special Needs and filled out the form and sent in that they sent us. They were great with her and she pre-ordered every night for the next. At other meals we just asked. The first day at the Windjammer the chef came out and walked around with us.

I think you will be pleased.

Thank you for your response! This was very informative and I think will put his parents at ease about the allergy situation. He does have multiple food allergies and I think your post will help a lot! I think it is awesome that the chef came out to the Windjammer the first day and walked around with you. I assume he told you what was safe for her to eat from the buffet. This information will help especially since your experience was on the Navigator. Thanks so much for taking the time to respond!

Happy Cruising!!

When we got to the Windjammer I asked the one waiting/or asking people if everything was ok if I could speak with the maitre'd since I needed to know what my DD who was gluten-free could eat. A few minutes later the maitre'd came out and said that he had spoken to the head chef and he would be out in just a few more minutes. After this the head chef walked around with me and told me what was ok. Then when I went to get my DD to go around, he was watching and joined us. He said he wanted to make sure all our questions were answered. He was really wonderful and it set the tone for the rest of the cruise.

My DD is mentally disabled, similar to autism, and all the staff were wonderful. They also realized how important it was we get the food right because she would have problem verbalizing a problem.

It's because of RCCL's (& also Carnival in the past) excellent treatment of my DD's special needs that we will likely only cruise those two lines.

Be sure to tell them that it's important they let the staff know. The Navigator is full of wonderful staff. We always got a smile and everyone going out of their way to help.

Have a wonderful cruise! Sorry I could not help with the other questions. Be sure to tell them that the ice show is not to be missed. My 14 yoa niece really loved the sports and she and my BIL took part in several competitions. And my other DD loved the rock wall.

We have cruised Carnival, Princess, Celebrity and Royal Caribbean as you can see by my Signature. Royal Caribbean we enjoy the most for so many reasons! We just love their product. This situation with our friends son and his allergies is the only major reason why the parents are hesitant to take their first cruise. Your personal experience should give them some peace of mind along with your explanation of what you did on board the ship in regards to the buffet. Thanks again for all the info...its been very valuable!

Cruise on!!!!! :)
