What brands of Beer on Norwegian

They have all of the usual Big 3 mass market swill beers and few less popular swill beers. Cruise ships aren't known for their beer selection.

On occasion, there is ONE, count'em, ONE label from a brewery specific to a port on the itinerary.

I just wish NCL would stock some IPAs....or even some Porters, Stouts, or Brown Ales (other than Newcastle)....or a Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. NCL?????

:) Yeah well.... we can wish into one hand and whiz into the other.....

They're still gonna offer us a BLeah.

There was a pretty long thread on craft beers in this forum, trying to persuade NCL into stocking some craft beers from embarkation ports. I think it would be a great idea..pick one bar that has some local craft.

Anyway, since most residents (and therefore cruisers) like horrible, yellow fizzy beer, NCL stocks mostly that cr...er...stuff. :)

I just got off the Star today :( and they had similar beers to what was posted in the pic above. Since they just came from Alaska they had some Alaskan Amber and some Alaskan Pale left.

My husband and I drank all the Amber and then had to switch to Red Stripe or Pilsner Urquell.

It was a nice treat to see the Alaskan on board.

They also had Guinness in cans and in bottles which I didn't notice in the picture above.

I was expecting the same thing from the Biergarten and thought that would be our hangout for the trip but I was disappointed.

For one, it is outside so they allow smoking and they have "cigars and cognac" every night. I never went at night but I can't stand the smell of cigar smoke so that ruled out that bar in the evenings for us.

Also, they had no draft beer and less of a selection than the Red Lion Pub. Biergarten just had the basic same beer as everywhere else on the ship. We really enjoyed the Red Lion and the draft Newcastle was not bad, sometimes on ships the draft beer is nasty because they don't know how to maintain their system but it was good on the Star last week.

Also, I think they only had the Alaskan at the Red Lion and when Big Al (the bartender) knew I liked it he went and got all the leftovers from the other bars and brought them to his bar. AND there was fresh hot popcorn at the Red Lion also.

What about in the "Bier Garten"? I was hoping for a nice selection of German beers from a spot named "Bier Garten".....ack.

Biergarten is NCL slang for ' A place to buy more swill'.

On a NCL, the best chance for anything decent is their pseudo-British pub. Sadly, you have a better chance of winning big in the casino than you do of finding some tasty beer on a cruise ship.

That Alaskan stuff was from the itinerary. Years ago, out of Houston, I got some Coal Porter on maybe the Dream. It turns out that it was left over from the summertime East Coast run. The local beer they had out of Houston was Shiner Bock - better than Coor's Light but still unremarkable. Well, OK, drinking from a urinal is better than drinking a Coor's Light, but that's not really the point.....

In 2002 the BierGarten on the Star had Boddington's -- I have a picture of myself double fisting a couple on the ship! Tee hee....

As for the picture Don posted from the Pearl....Ugh. 14 of the poorest excuses for beers on planet Earth. Hope the selection is better on the Epic in January. This makes me even more confident of my bar setup purchase. DH drinks beer or vodka martinis. With that beer selection -- I'm guessing we are going to be drinking that whole liter of vodka.... :D

Boddington's has always been available. Gotta agree with you about those poor excuses for beer. I gues if they had Gallo and Bahia it would be all-encompassing for a list of awfulness.

No Hard Cider either???

Bill(DrFootball)

For the past 33 years, I have looked in the mirror every morning and asked myself: “If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?” And whenever the answer has been “No” for too many days in a row, I know I need to change something.

I thought I saw Newcastle on tap at Maltings this year (Jewel)

Unfortunate part was the lines were dirty and the beer was awful!! What a way to ruin beer:(

I know they're limited for space but, since they enjoy giving surveys now, why won't NCL put in a suggestions section? I would imagine a big request across the board regarding beer might get some more selections on the ships. I'd try some. But I could also say they don't have much in wine selections either. It's rather tough, they probably play a numbers game. Mich ultra and Coors light are huge sellers which is swill to you die hard beer drinkers. I can tell you one Miracle cruise we took they ran out of coors light the last day:eek: Not a lot of happy beer drinkers. DH asked bartender why and she said it's budget numbers. "X" amount of beers each trip.

I liked the fact that NCL had coors light in a bottle, I really don't like canned beer. This year 16 oz plastic crap bottles:mad: So tried a Stella at Maltings. Tasted like vinegar. They didn't make money on me this year drinking!
