US credit card with chip

Recommended Posts

I was very excited to hear that Chase will now start issuing credit cards that contain a chip just like the ones used in Europe. This will help out when US citizens travel to Europe. The magnetic swipe is becoming harder to find overseas. YAY for progress. I will probably pick one up specifically for overseas travel. I hope other banks will quickly follow suit.

We have had the chip in our credit cards and debit cards here in Canada for over a year, and here i thought the states were always ahead of us :p

Haha, I have had that happen a couple times in QC where I can't use my CC at the gas pump because it's 'american':)

No problem with the AMEX world but MC and VISA are both like that.

There is no real trouble using our USA non chip cards in Europe. It is only a prob at UNmanned kiosks like in gas stations or on toll roads.

The article above says that only high end cards that you pay for will have this technology any time soon.

I think the lower end free cards (like the ones I have) will have to wait a while!!

The new credit cards and the new passports all have the data chip in them. Great for you and also great for theft too.

You need to store these cards and your passport in a radio opaque device like a special foil lined pouch or a metal case ( they make them just ask like Radio shack)

Why? There is a growing crime of card data theft from your card or passport, and you dont even know about it. The thief carrys a small radio transmitter that can read your cards, in your purse or wallet in your pocket. All he has to do is stand within 4 to 5 feet of you iand in less than 20 seconds his little device ( commercialy available) will extract every bit of data in any chip...

YOU will never Know !!! They can read your cards in you pocket!!!

A friend of mine in europe cautioned me on this, and he is employed as a computer security specialists by major banks. He said it is becoming more common in Europe now to see this info theft and the theives are getting more and more skilled at it.

I carry my cards and passport and drivers licence ( all with chips) now in a special carry case... looks like a business card case... ...Think about it
