Hey group,

We will be heading to FLL to board the Crown in April and would love a few suggestions for hotels. Would love to see the ships from the hotel if possible. Don't need 5 star as we will get that the next week on board but... would like clean, close and comfortable....

I know you will all have suggestions and I can't wait to read them all weekend as our planning has begun:)!!!!

Flying into FLL nite before cruise. Paid $100 on expedia plus tax. Free 24 Hour Shuttle to/from Airport

Sorry, I now am reading that you wanted to see the ships from hotel.

Are you looking near Easter? $$$$$$

How many people?

Are you familiar with Hotwire, Priceline and Lastminute travel?

"Close"...I assume close to the port? If so look at some of the beach locations or downtown. Altho you won't see the ships from most d.t. hotels.

We are cruising in April also! Which cruise are you on? We are going on the Western Caribbean April 14th. We lived in Ft. Lauderdale for 35 years and now live in MA for the last 10.

I am familiar with the area as well. We stay a the Cruiseport Marriott Courtyard. They are on Gulfstream Way. They will pick you up at the airport and get you to their property upon arrival. They will then take you over to the Port the next day. Just put your name on the schedule at the front desk when you check in. They are not near a bunch of stuff like some others but they are clean, have a pool etc. There is a Bassmasters Outdoor Worl right next door for the hubbies and a restaurant of some sort (the name escapes me) also a Subway restaurant. If you have AAA you can get a discount.

We will be passing each other in the terminal as we board on the 21st. Please make a deposit for me at the casino!! Just tell them to hold the money for a week and Hodge will pick it up the next week!!! LOL

Can you see the ships from the Courtyard Marriot??

No. Hotels that offer shuttles are near the airport. (inland) Rates will be lower there than staying on or near the beach or downtown on 17th st. If you must see the ships, you will pay a premium. Much depends on what you want to spend and your priorities.

Our vote is for the Embassy Suites. Our family always stays there. We will be three for 3 nites pre-cruise in April. Excellent location and can walk to many good restaurants. Only 5 minutes to the pier.

We usually stay at the Embassy Suites as well, we book through Princess so we get the transfers included. Now, some will automatically claim we're paying too much, but we booked so far in advance that its cheaper than any of the Embassy Suites' posted rates. Others will say we shouldn't bother with the transfers and just take cabs since Port Everglades is so close, but we're not in a rush and its included so why complicate things. Plus, its nice to get off the plane and have someone waiting for us.

To each their own.

We stayed there at the end of November for two nights pre Emerald cruise on Nov 28 - it was fine but the hotel is quite tired. Two items which I didn't like - on the Sunday a sign was posted that as of 5:00 p.m. the pool would be closing for two weeks for repairs and maintenance. Shuttles were available to a nearby hotel (Marriott?) and you could still use the lounge chairs around the deck. I would be mighty upset if I was just arriving and saw this sign. We were leaving Monday so it didn't bother me too much - and we had enjoyed the pool both Saturday and Sunday. The other item is that their "policy" is that they have until 5:00 to clean your room. We found this out when we returned to our room at 3:00 and it was not made-up. I called the front desk - they said "if you want it cleaned early, you have to make a special request". I told them I had never thought of 3:00 as early! Breakfast was a zoo both days but adequate. Snacks at happy hour are pretzels and goldfish. We paid $129 MVP rate so we weren't complaining too much for the price but I'll look elsewhere next time.
