Liberty Dec. 10-17 cruise

My observations about our Liberty cruise in random non-coherent order. :)

First of all. I love this ship, and I would happily sail her again.

We had cabin 7385 and my sister and BIL were in the next cabin over 7389. We requested to have the balcony divider opened which they did. Considering the setup I was very surprised that they did unlock the divider. The divider swings into both cabins doors. There was no way to secure the door so that it does not blow in the wind, so it just flopped around. We decided that this was not a good setup, so we locked the divider.

I am not a big fan of hamburgers, but do occasionally have one. I do have to say the Guy's burgers were delicious. We all loved them. I ended up having them on 3 separate days. That is saying something!

In the buffet I found that I enjoyed the side dishes more than the entrees. Some of them sounded weird (i.e, pickled squash), but were wonderful. Their deserts in the buffet sucked, but the cookies were great.

Our first night we went to Harry's Steakhouse. This is always a great experience. When I called to make a reservation, they told me they only had a 8:00 pm available. I told her that was too late, so we wouldn't be able to make it. She said how about later in the week, and I said no we only wanted to come this night so to forget it all together. (I knew, from research on this forum) the menus in the MDR sounded good so we wanted to go there for the rest of the week.) Then she said she did have a 6 pm available for this first night. Hmmm. So we took it. Of course we were the first ones in there, and by the time that we left only 1 other table was taken. Hmmmm. I do have to mention their baked onion soup. It is the absolute best onion soup on this planet. It is waaaaay better than the stuff they serve in the MDR. It is waaaaay better than any that I had gotten in Paris, France. It is by far, hands down, the best onion soup. OMG I want more of it.

They had new comedians on this sailing, so I went to a couple of the adult shows. Funny. Their acts are completely different from each other, so it is worth seeing both of them.

My husband hit a $1350 pot on a slot machine in the casino. :) Overall, he won about $2000 on the slots. I had talked to another woman that had won $2500 on one machine plus I heard that a few others did well also.

I have to say that I love the new smoking policies on this ship. This is the first time that I didn't get a major headache in the casino from smoke. They really controlled this well. If you are not playing, you are not allowed to smoke. Period. They would actually tell people to put out their cigarettes if they were not playing at a table or slot machine. I know this is a touchy subject for a lot of people, but it really made my cruise more enjoyable.

The deck parties that I went to were well attended. Fun times. I like how they would give the line dance classes during the day that were featured that night on deck.

It snowed!!! The ship is all decorated for Christmas, and on the last night they had it snow in the atrium. Very cool. Unfortunately I couldn't get the snow to show up in my pictures.

As for the dining room service. We had anytime dining and the first night it took 2 hours to finish our meal. Worst service ever. Thankfully the next night we had a wonderful waiter, and then the night after that it got even better. With the exception of the one section service was great.

My sister is gluten free due to celiac, and they were very attentive to her. She had a wonderful food experience and had plenty of options.

The Serenity areas are very nice, and have plenty of room.

So those are my random observations in no particular order. Thanks for reading. :)

Thanks for sharing photonut4. Any commentary on port between point A and B? Like/not like/would do next time?

In Grand Turk we signed up for the Carnival Island Tour Excursion. The tour is $50 for 2.5 hours. We enjoyed this tour, but felt it was a little long. We are glad that we did it one time, but would not do it again. There is a beautiful beach right at the dock, which everyone seemed to enjoy. This is a very small island approximately 7 miles long. Next time I go we will go snorkeling (wish we would have done this this time). Just off shore there is a wall that drops to 7000 feet that is suppose to be incredible. The waters are very clear here.

In San Juan we went geocaching in the old part of the city and by the fort. The walk to the fort is beautiful along the water. When we docked here none of us were thrilled about the port, but when you get away from the port the area is very nice. It was hot, Hot, HOT. Bring water. I would love to spend a couple days here and go to the bioluminessence bay in Puerto Rico. Google it. It looks like it would be an incredible experience.

St. Thomas is a favorite. If this is your first time, I would highly recommend going to St. John. Previously when we went to this island we did not take the ship sponsored excursions, but went on our own. We grabbed a taxi to the ferry, which was about a 20 minutes ride (although traffic jams can really slow this trip down), then hopped the ferry over to St. John. Wonderful day snorkeling at Trunk Bay. One cruise we even chartered a private sailboat that took us snorkeling by St. John. That was pricey, but sooooo worth it. Or you can always just do a beach day, on one of their many wonderful beaches. You would have to do a search to see which one would fit your needs/wants. If you want to stay closer to the ship, you can take the skyride up to the top of the mountain. We have done this before, and it is a gorgeous view from up there. A little pricey, but well worth it one time. We also grabbed a cache here.

If you have never ziplined before, that is always a great time. Most islands offer this nowadays.

I hope this gives you a little help. What ever you do, you will have a great time.

Thanks for the review photonut! Can you tell me which days were formal? Thanks.

We boarded on Saturday, and the first formal night was Sunday, which also happened to be a sea day. The second formal night was Thursday, and that was the day that we were in Grand Turk. :)

Thanks for responding so quickly! Our cruise itinerary is showing Sunday @ Half Moon Cay and Monday as the sea day:confused:

The elegant nights on this/our cruise will be Monday (at sea) and thursday (Grand Turk)!!

Great review - wondering if you attended the fun farewell party - last night/free drinks - if so how was it?

Our ship did not stop at HMC. They use to, but didn't for ours. It was never on our itinerary when I booked, and we had 2 sea days at the beginning of the week.

No I'm sorry we didn't attend. I'm not much of a drinker, so I didn't bother. I do remember reading it in the paper, and they do not advertise the free drinks, so I am willing to bet that it wasn't too crowded. I, of course, knew about the free drinks because of this site. My husband is a smuggler, so he was content to not go and drink his stash on our balcony. ;)

Hello,

Thanks for taking the time to do a review. We are sailing in April. I know that is a few months from now. Even though the waiters change out, but do you remember the names of your "good" waiters?

No I'm sorry I don't. All I can tell you is that they were in the very back and the right side as you enter the Golden dining room. The less than stellar server was on the left side about 3/4 of the way back.

One fun thing they had in the dining room every night was a magician that went from table to table doing close up magic tricks. Very good and funny. He was really great with the kids.

We were on the Dec 2 sailing. We had anytime dining in the Golden dining room. We had Julius on more than one occasion and he was excellent. Also had one or 2 more that were quite good, but cannot recall their names. Enjoyed all our meals there. Service and food both excellent.

We were on this sailing, as well. We had a great waiter in the Silver dining room. His name is Jemar from the Phillipines. This was his first cruise back after a 2 month vacation and told us he will be there fore 6 months. So, he should still be there for your cruise.
