Hotels in Miami and Fort Lauderdale

We will be arriving from a Transatlantic cruise in Miami four days before departing on the Oasis of the Seas. Would anyone be able to suggest decent, inexpensive hotels we could stay at in Miami for one night and three nights in Fort Lauderdale. We would like to do some sightseeing, shopping and be near the action, but not such a noisy, busy area that we won't be able sleep! We have never been in Miami or Fort Lauderdale so are unfamiliar with the area. :)

What are the dates you need? Prices vary like crazy depending on the dates. Have you researched "going" rates at hotels in those two spots for those dates? "Inexpensive" to you could be a totally differnt thought to someone here. What is your budget? Offering us dates and more hints on your price point will make it easier.

Miami Beach is the "Miami" you see in the movies and on TV shows -- it is a separate city from Miami, and the hotels there tend to be smaller and more expensive :( -- they also offer great dining, nightlife and a world class beach. :D

Downtown Miami hotels close to POM that may work for you include the Hyatt, Intercontinental, Marriott and Doubletree Biscayne Bay.

As downtown and Miami Beach hotels charge $25-30+/day for parking  use a cab to get from your ship to your Miami hotel, then pick up your car the next day as you depart for Fort Lauderdale.

As mentioned above, lots of good chain hotels in the downtown/17th St. area with shopping and dining options within walking distance. We like the Embassy Suites, but with a rental car you have lots of options. Good luck! :)

What are your dates? Also be very weary of inexpensive Miami hotels.

Go to www.Sunny.org and look for Small Superior Lodgings in Hollywood Beach.

Thank you all for the information. The dates we will there will be during November next year, around Thanksgiving. Is this a busy time of the year? Nevertheless, I will check the board for comments from other CC members.:)

I would spend the time in Miami if you dont have a car, so you can take the bus around. We stayed at the IC and bus hopped to south beach and I got from the airport via $2 city bus.

Ft. Lauderdale you will need a car or use a taxi, though there are lots of cheap hotels.

lastminutetravel has some huge bargains.

Thanksgiving kind of is but not peak season.

If you've never been, definitely spend a night or two in South Beach. It is the barrier island off the Miami mainland.
