Just booked 2 sectors of the Whisper 2013 World Cruise

We have just booked 2 sectors of the Whisper 2013 World Cruise now they have come on sale. Los Angeles - Papeete - Sydney. I need to be in Sydney on 9 February 2013 for my best friend's 60th Birthday. The cruise gets us there on 4 February (without jet-lag :)) so is ideal. I have booked a Midship Verandah Cabin. Silversea will only allocate us a 'guarantee' cabin. They want to see how many full World Cruises they can sell first. Also the deposit has gone up to 25%. Those 'beancounters' at Head Office are at it again! Deposits remain fully refundable up until 120 days before departure - unlike most cruise lines (including Seabourn) where deposits are totally non-refundable. In the UK interest rates are so low that the increased deposit doesn't bother me. I will start a roll-call later.

Thanks for the heads up Philip, Well seasoned mentioned to me the bump up in deposit amount (25% of cruise fare)a couple of weeks ago until your post did not do the math on our Spirit 2013 fall crossing deposit--yep 25%. Like you, due to low interest rates here is US too and with the deposits being fully refundable up to final pay (tho prefer the old 20% requirement) 25% deposit on booking, does not bother me too much either.

We booked a 2013 Alaska cruise earlier this week when we were still on the Shadow. The deposit required was indeed 25%.

I understand from the Cruise Consultant that we were the first passengers to book that cruise :D

However now we must settle in for what we call a 7 month shore excursion until our next Silversea adventure...

We would like to reserve LA to Hong Kong on the Whisper 2013 world cruise, booking from the UK. However, neither our agent nor us (using the the website) can get any info. We need prices, what's included, any special offers etc. Also it is unclear what the position is regarding deposits. Are they really fully refundable up to 120 days from sailing for UK based passengers

Yes, deposit (25%) fully refundable up to 120 days. My agent has dealt with booking and I have firm prices. I can refer you to my agent (based in London - cruising specialists) if you e-mail me (I'm not allowed to "advertise" my agent on this site!!!).

Have you been told when you get an actual cabin number? ie before or after you have to pay balance? What happens if you do not get the deck 8 or 9 (same grade) when you have a preference for one and not by lift?

For me, final payment date is Sept. 5 or 6 so I'm guessing once the WC and half WC pay up, they'll know where to put us interlopers and I'll move off waitlist and get a cabin assignment.

If not, no biggie, there will be other cruises on SS or other cruiselines.

tedbear, my TA told me yesterday that I probably wouldn't get my cabin until right before. You have 2 segments,so you'll probably get yours before. There's a pecking order as they accomodate those who have booked. The entire cruise,or half first. At least that's the way it was explained to me.
