jfhbearcat Posted January 1, 2012 #1 Share Posted January 1, 2012 First time cruisers - Cruise schedule (Carnival) says ship arrives back at POM at 8:00 AM. What time should we expect to have our luggage and be ready to leave port? Thank you
CruiserBruce Posted January 1, 2012 #2 Share Posted January 1, 2012 By 8:30, perhaps sooner. In this case, I believe you will actually get in sooner, and perhaps start getting off by 8am. The best place for all info regarding Carnival is on the Carnival board, here: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=

WOW I guess carnival have special privileges  We have docked in POM at 7 am on a smaller ship & never gotten cleared by Immigrations before 9 am
paul929207 Posted January 1, 2012 #4 Share Posted January 1, 2012 While you may wind up getting off quickly. It will be at least 10am before the ship is cleared.
trish1c Posted January 1, 2012 #5 Share Posted January 1, 2012 8 am is the scheduled arrival time. It doesn't mean you will meet that time. Once the ship pulls in all sorts of other things have to happen -- customs & immigration plus offloading the tons of luggage for all the passangers. CW says not to book a flight home any earlier than 5 hours after your scheduled arrival time at port. For an 8 a.m. arrival, 1 p.m. would be the earliest safe flight. Cruisin' Chick Posted January 2, 2012 #6 Share Posted January 2, 2012 There's always Murphy's Law: 1) your ship may be delayed in getting into port on time 2) customs and immigrations may be late getting on board (that happened to one of our cruises -- maybe more) 3) there may be a line for land transportation 4) could be a delay in getting to the airport (that is so true here in Los Angeles)
gerryl12 Posted January 2, 2012 #7 Share Posted January 2, 2012 We usually get off (walk off carry all or own bags) within a half hour of docking time. Of course this does not always work and one time it was almost three hours. As others have said, there are so many variables (customs, weather, luck etc.) I would plan on being off no later than ten or eleven baring weather or mechanical problems, rare but do happen. You will probably be off by nine or so.
Krazy Kruizers Posted January 2, 2012 #8 Share Posted January 2, 2012 Welcome to Cruise Critic. There have a few occasions when our ship didn't clear right away. Thus you should plan afternoon flights -- no sense in being stressed on the last with worrying if you will make your flight. If you can -- stay over a night.
