Hypo Posted January 1, 2012 #2 Share Posted January 1, 2012 Usually, but not always, the starboard side next to the pier. Oasis and Allure were designed to use the starboard side, but at least once a month they have to switch sides to allow exercise of the lifeboats on the starboard side. Oshawapilot Posted January 1, 2012 #3 Share Posted January 1, 2012 Does the Allure dock on starboard or port side? On our recent eastern itinerary: Nassua: Port St. Thomas: Starboard St. Maarten: Port It's possible this may change from cruise to cruise depending on slip availability and the requirement for coming in bow/stern first, although I suspect that Allure/Oasis have the same slip on a consistent basis due to their size, and arrive/depart with the same orientation consistently. As mentioned above, lifeboat excercise is probably why they switch every now and then - we did see one of the Allure lifeboats out and about in St. Thomas. royalcruz Posted January 1, 2012 #4 Share Posted January 1, 2012 In Fort Lauderdale, I've only seen it docked starboard side at the terminal.

Cruzaholic41 Posted January 1, 2012 #6 Share Posted January 1, 2012 Does the Allure dock on starboard or port side? The answer is, Allure is designed to dock on starboard side and that's what they strive to do. Occassionally, they will dock on the port side due to other circumstances, but it's best to plan for starboard side docking.
Oshawapilot Posted January 1, 2012 #7 Share Posted January 1, 2012 St. Maarten: Port St. Maarten Starboard There ya go, so expecting any consistency might not be realistic. Curious why the OP asks? Disembarking is pretty similar no matter what side you disembark/embark from at port, the only difference I remember was that sometimes the gangway button on the elevator took you to deck 3, and sometimes deck 2, with an escalator to the gangway on the deck 3 option, versus direct to the gangway with the deck 2 option. Oshawapilot Posted January 1, 2012 #10 Share Posted January 1, 2012 Quick way to remember: Port has 4 letters. Left has 4 letters. ;) Port and Starboard are always determined based on looking towards the bow of a vessel, as mentioned. You'll get disoriented on the ship at times and forget what side is starboard and what side is port, but trust me, you'll have no trouble finding the gangways - there is plenty of indicators and signage no matter how you find your way towards them. The easiest way to start is to get in the elevators and push the "Gangway" button which is only active while in port - it will take you to whatever deck they are using automatically, so it takes some of the guess work out of the process right off the bat. It's dead easy no matter what, so don't worry.
Ariel35 Posted January 1, 2012 Author #11 Share Posted January 1, 2012 Thank you everyone for all your replies. The reason why I'm asking is I've booked a room starboard-side, and I would like to be able to see the ports we dock into :)
Oshawapilot Posted January 1, 2012 #12 Share Posted January 1, 2012 The view can change a lot if/when other ships come and go, or if the "view" isn't actually on the port side of the pier but opposite. In St Maarten for example the better view were clearly on the Starboard side since port side looked directly at a NCL beside us, until it left and the view suddenly changed. ;). In St. Thomas though Port side would have been preferential. Honestly though, unless you're not going into town on your port days, the number of hours you are in port standing still will be few - I hardly ever saw anyone on their outside balconies during port days with the exception of sailaway.
