turtlescruztoo Posted January 8, 2012 #2 Share Posted January 8, 2012 take Lido deck 15 all the way forward--if the doors are unlocked you're welcome outside. when at sea the doors are locked due to the wind
c-to-sea Posted January 8, 2012 #3 Share Posted January 8, 2012 I think it depends on the ship. I know that Star and Sapphire have stair access from Lido deck but have also read that other ships have access through one of the passageways. Also, I think (JMHO) that access is restricted when the ship is at cruising speed.
Putterdude Posted January 8, 2012 #4 Share Posted January 8, 2012 The access varies from ship to ship but all of the ships that I have been on so far have it.
JLC@SD Posted January 8, 2012 #5 Share Posted January 8, 2012 Your next cruise in on Emerald Princess. Check out the deck plan in Deck 16 on the link below. Take the outside walk to in front of Aerobics and you go up a few stairs to the deck above the bridge. The deck above the bridge does not show on the deck plan. http://www.princess.com/learn/ships/ep/deck_plans/index.html

On all the other Grand-class vessels, the bridge wings are accessible by going forward outside on Sun deck (deck 15).

You are correct......I forgot to account for the extra deck on Emerald/Ruby/Crown/Caribbean Princesses which puts the Sun Deck one deck higher......;) Edited January 8, 2012 by JLC@SD
CFD130 Posted January 8, 2012 #8 Share Posted January 8, 2012 Last year on the Crown you could only go up there when in port- they would make you leave and then lock the doors shortly before departure
RickT Posted January 8, 2012 #9 Share Posted January 8, 2012 We've never seen those doors locked however I assume on very windy days or during rough seas they would be. It's one of our favourite places to be during sail away.

The same is true on the Panamax ships for viewing the approach to the Panama Canal. We are looking forward to being on the Caribbean Princess for the new locks partial transit. pablo222 Posted March 21, 2017 #16 Share Posted March 21, 2017 On the Emerald Princess, the area above the bridge has been closed off to passengers for years. I asked if it could be open, and was told by the PSD that is was closed forever, because some passengers had fooled with some electronics there.
