Rare richstowe Posted January 14, 2012 Author #26 Share Posted January 14, 2012 me either!!! lol, so I guess we wouldn't miss it. Blows my mind, not that people didn't read it but that they didn't even know it existed especially very experienced cruisers. Wow. I looked for it everyday and read it. Will miss it if they did this on all ships. Knew I could count on you.:D
frito58 Posted January 14, 2012 #27 Share Posted January 14, 2012 :eek: No idea what your even talking about:confused: Your saying I could have read a newspaper onboard. I love reading a paper with my coffee on the balcony the one thing I find as drawback to cruising over land vacations. 7 Carnival cruises never knew it existed. Do other cruise lines do that?? janisutx Posted January 14, 2012 #29 Share Posted January 14, 2012 I always enjoyed the international newspaper on the over 14 day sailings. The days with no TV and internet signals while sailing in the middle of nowhere are difficult. We enjoyed reading the paper everyday. It even had sport scores. Sometimes big news happens while you are on vacation. If you only take 7 day cruises it is not as important. We have taken several 4-7 week cruises and didn't want to ignore the real world for that length of time.
parrothead74 Posted January 14, 2012 #30 Share Posted January 14, 2012 I was at sea for 9/11 and I live on Long Island and work in NYC. If there is major news back home, trust me... you will know. Other than that, I don't care to stay current on my vacation.
Earthworm Jim Posted January 14, 2012 #31 Share Posted January 14, 2012 I did read it and like it. Calling it a paper is giving it too much credit. It was mostly just headlines and one or two lines of text on each story. But it did at least give you some idea what the days top issues are. Most of the issues of the day are insignificant. But if there was a big news item, wouldn't you want to know about it? To give the most extreme example, would you have wanted to remain totally ignorant of 9/11 until you returned from your cruise? That said, losing out on it isn't really that big a deal. I'd rather have it, but could live without it.
Mary Ellen1 Posted January 14, 2012 #32 Share Posted January 14, 2012 I'm one who totally enjoys keeping up with the news, AND having a little something to read with a cup of coffee. So the ship's newspaper did very nicely. I don't miss it, though, if they choose to discontinue it in the name of cost-cutting. Other lines still have it. Perhaps you might want to think about one of them? We just got off 11 days on HAL over Christmas, and they had a newspaper every day. (For those who haven't seen it - it's not actually like a "real" newspaper -- it's just 1-2 sheets of 11"x17" paper, folded, giving you 4-8 pages of newspaper. IMHO, a little too heavy on the sports scores & news...)
Vettebuf Posted January 14, 2012 #33 Share Posted January 14, 2012 Is it just me? Didn't anyone else enjoy/use this service? We did. We'll miss them. We picked one up near the guest service's desk every day. They used to have them in 5 or 6 different languages in the 90's. Wireless technology has only enhanced newspapers and books. I bring my laptop (with ereader software) reader but I also bring those old-fashioned things called 'books'.

cdamion Posted January 14, 2012 #35 Share Posted January 14, 2012 Im another one who didn't know it existed. Nor would I want to. Add me to the list of people who avoids news when at sea. I won't even go up on the Lido when they have CNN on.

25years2gether Posted January 14, 2012 #39 Share Posted January 14, 2012 We went looking for it twice last week while on the Victory to no avail. We enjoyed reading the headlines, just like we enjoy watching the news on the big screen early in the morning with our cup of coffee. It's nice to have that little touch with the outside world for a few minutes every day - even while on vacation.

sjcruiser Posted January 15, 2012 #42 Share Posted January 15, 2012 WOW, never knew of the newspaper. I tend to read several papers, several times a day, but when I'm on vacation its another story. No Newspapers or TV News. I would hope that if anything major happens in the world, they'd make an announcement, etc.

Woodfaerie Posted January 15, 2012 #44 Share Posted January 15, 2012 If you frequent the coffee bar, you would see them there. There was a display there, usually next to the mile high cakes, where the papers were kept. Its a standard with me and hubby. We get our delicious specialty coffee, read the paper ( a mini USA Today) and then head to the Lido. But alas, cuts here and cuts there...... scgamecock Posted January 15, 2012 #45 Share Posted January 15, 2012 Just got back from a wonderful Fascination cruise. One thing was missing . Where was the daily paper Carnival put out? I asked and was told they stopped this service December. I realize it wasn't really a paper but just 10 or so pages reprinted from other sources but I enjoyed it. Not a big deal but I didn't see anything posted about this on CC. Does no one care about this but me? Do so few people care about this that Carnival can discontinue this service and it is not even mentioned here? Heck there have been hundreds of posts about a missing musician on the Lido deck band. Is it just me? Didn't anyone else enjoy/use this service? Been on 8 carnival cruises and never heard of this...

Sh1035 Posted January 15, 2012 #49 Share Posted January 15, 2012 It's a CCL conspiracy to make you fumble thru the 6 channels of CCL channels while you attempt to see what's happening in the world. I always read them and will miss it. Won't be using my slow inet connection for news. Lucky if I can send an email.

We went to the coffee bar on our fall Magic med cruise every day and picked them up there. Most times, we had to ask the barista for one and she got it from behind the counter.
