5waldos Posted February 21, 2012 #1 Share Posted February 21, 2012 Wow- Galveston is again completely hidden in fog. Please someone reassure me that by end of March this is less likely? If we are several hours late coming in we will miss our flight and I suspect that could cost us an arm and a leg to get home!
Galveston Cruiser Posted February 21, 2012 #2 Share Posted February 21, 2012 cool water + warm air temp = Fog Can't predict Mother Nature, but the Gulf will warming up if the warm air temps continue and all indications are we will have no winter this year. 5waldos Posted February 21, 2012 Author #3 Share Posted February 21, 2012 Well- did just call our airline to see what they did should we miss the plane- that made me feel a bit better- they will do their best to accomodate us and try not to charge us for the extra fare. And they do have a lot of flights coming back to Denver that afternoon. We will keep our fingers crossed. I actually like fog- but not when I am trying to make a plane. Nor drive anyplace for that matter.

Although when we left on 2/12 it was in the 40's and windy and we were dressed for the Carribean. Better than fog though.

ssb Posted February 24, 2012 #7 Share Posted February 24, 2012 Fogs the reason I'm scared to sail out of Galveston WHY? It happens everywhere! The Jewel just experienced fog in Tampa!!! Make your plans flexible.....buy insurance...... go...... and enjoy your trip.... This year, with mother nature the US is being affected in different ways all over the US. The entire West Coast, Gulf Coast and East Coast can be subject to fog. Fog is relative to mother nature and does not occur every day, every week or month, nor last for long periods. Its occurrence is as varible ......as the weather is each year. This year is a La Nina Year. Two years ago there was not a hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico. Explain that! You live in Alabama! If you are cruising one time out of Galveston in the winter, your odds are still very good..... you will not be affected by the fog. It could happen! Things happen!!!! My daughter was in Chicago recently, with the snow and dealing with the complications from the massive cancellations of air flights in the Northeast. Are we still going to cruise and fly? Yes, even if there is a chance you won't get out of Chicago or from where ever! It could also be a hurricane in the Atlantic affecting Florida and the entire East Coast and or Gulf Coast; It could also be a hurricane in the Carribean; It could be a chemical spill on the Mississippi; It can be storms on the east coast in Florida; It can be Fog on the Gulf Coast and East coast; It could be strikes in Europe; It could be ash across Europe Our flights in Lisbon were cancelled because of strikes in Paris and Europe. Our last flight into Amsterdam we get off plane.... and our connecting flights were cancelled because of weather. In Ft Lauderdale, we didn't make a 11:30 am air flight...... not being able to get off ship. We were first off ship, and close to airport? In Port Canaveral we barely made it to the ship for departure.... because of weather and complications with transfers from Orlando to port? In Miami we had trouble getting on ship because of ship complications? In Tampa they had fog problems recently? What about all the terrible weather conditions recently in lorida....... when the ships had trouble getting in and out of port? Fog is only one of many possible complications! Whether it is a cruise, or a cross country road trip, or driving to your cruise, there can be complications. Make your plans flexible.....buy insurance...... go...... and enjoy your trip.... if you even make it to the ship. Are we still going to cruise, drive and fly? YES! Fog is only one of possible complications in a trip! A good attitude is the difference between ordeal and adventure!
sredish Posted February 24, 2012 #8 Share Posted February 24, 2012 Oh I wouldn't let fog stop me from sailing out of Galveston! It's never caused us a problem before and really of its just a minor delay...who cares?? Sure I hate a delay to go away, but to still enjoy a fabulous vacation after a brief wait is worth it to me!
