Chops Grill. Ugh I have no chance!

So someone bought us dinner at Chops Grill from my gal and I's honeymoon registry. I'm the type who cant decide what to get at restaurants. I usually go online and read the menus in advance. I read the sample menu for chops and I want 3 appetizers and 3 entrees. Can I order more than one like in the main dining room?

Thanks CC

You can get 3 appetizers, that's not a problem (we did it). You can only get one entree however... which I was not impressed with. It seems that everyone I've talked to that ate there and loved their dinner only ordered the filet. Everything else appears to be questionable. Unfortunately we did not order filets since we wanted a lot of flavor.

Which one is it that you ordered and didn't like?

I will be on Freedom in a week and would like to know what to avoid.

Im a steak lover and know a good cut of beef. The 16 oz. bone in ribeye cooked to a nice medium rare was to die for IMHO! Unfortunately it has been taken off the menu :(

Still though, these are NOT USDA Prime cuts of beef and are not advertised as such.

See, that to me is WAY to subjective to answer correctly. Your tastes may totally be different than hers and what she finds wasnt so good, you may very well like.

if she went into Chops expecting a dry aged Prime cut, i can see why she might be disappointed :) No way can they serve those cuts at 30.00 per person.

I'm not sure one could even EAT 3 entrees...they are HUGE! You can your wife can order different entrees, and share! By the time we had an appetizer and salad, we could barely touch our entrees...and dessert....forget it! If you can't hold dessert, you can take it "to go!"

We both had the porterhouse because we love that strong steak flavor and wanted a bone in steak. There was no consistency in quality... mine was very tough and my husbands was mediocre, they were both the same temperature (medium rare). As a steak lover I was shocked to find they pushed sauces onto everyone and didn't like to no as an answer. A good steak needs no sauce, I now know why they kept trying to get us to use one. :) The sides we had were great though. We had the mushrooms with leeks and the potatoes with prosciutto.

As for the desert, we had the creme brulee and the consistency was off. They hadn't let the custard set and it was more like a very very soft pudding with some sugar caramelized on top of it.

The appetizers were great though. I had the tuna and he had the mushroom soup. We shared the crab and shrimp cake which paled far in comparison to the jumbo lump crab cake the night before at 150 Central Park and also wasn't as good as the one we had in the MDR.

This was a free meal for us as well so no love was lost, but had I paid my own money for it I would have been far more upset with the food.

Did you google your question or use the search, lol! (referring to your previous thread)

We ordered one each but had 2 apps and then they let my husband order the pasta dish (which was an entree but a smaller portion) I think you will be full no matter what, have a wonderful time!

I couldnt disagree more... I never have a sauce n my steak as I prefer the flavour of the steak, and the waiter never had any problem with this. I found my steak (filet mignon) to be flavourful.

We dined at Chops twice this past October on Oasis. The Filet one night ( magnificent) and the porterhouse the other. ( excellent) The sides..... family style and way more than one can consume. My wife had a baked potato the size of a small football.... (for real) I am looking forward to Chops again on Allure in 65 days.

We went to Chops last September on the Allure and was also disappointed to see the ribeye was off the menu. However, I asked the waiter if I could get one if he could find one. About 15 minutes later he came out with a perfectly cooked bone in ribeye. All you have to do is ask.

I'm not clear on what part you're disagreeing with. If you look at post 4 the original comment was that it seems that everyone I've talked to that ate there and loved their dinner only ordered the fillet. You seem to continue that theory. Or are you disagreeing that the porterhouses we received were of poor quality?

As for the sauces well we suspect it also may have had something to do with the woman that was in charge didn't even like steak, lol. We were shocked that she came by to see how we were doing and told us that before she worked in Chops she never liked steak and still only ate it if it had a lot of sauce on it. Why would you tell a customer that you don't like the food you serve? This was on the Oasis just a few weeks ago.

I, too was not at all impressed with the entrees my family and I chose at Chops this past summer on Enchantment. We all ordered Porterhouse steaks and they were simply awful - mostly fat and gristle, very little edible meat. We weren't overly thrilled with any of their food, except the shrimp cocktails, which were good. We were actually still hungry when we left. We had so looked forward to dining there, but I'd never go back again. The food and service in the MDR was really a lot better.

My last visit to Chops was on the Liberty of the Seas in Sept. '10 and the meal was incredible. My main course was the veal chop which was out of this world. As for the original poster's question I would have to say that I am a big eater and ordered soup, appetizer (maybe 2), a salad, and main course with lots of sides, and 1 dessert and I was busting so I don't think you'll need to order more than one main course. I'm going back on the Liberty in April and I will make a reservation for the end of the cruise so I can hear what others have to say about it. That way I can cancel without penalty if the word is bad. The service was excellent too, by the way. And the best part is my friend loved the meal so much he picked up the tab for both of us.

DH and I love Chops. We normally share 3 appetizers. They're all pretty generous portions, so sharing is an option. We always order the filet and have enjoyed it each time. We try to stick to the veggies for sides since everything is so filling. The mushrooms, green beans, and asparagus are all delicious. For dessert, the chocolate mud pie never disappoints.

As for the three entrees you want to try, perhaps you can book Chops for two nights of your cruise?

Enjoy your honeymoon cruise! We had our honeymoon on a cruise, and it was wonderful. :)

You are absolutely correct in your assessment about a good steak's relation to sauce. That is a black-and-white fact not open to debate for those with other tastes. My mouth is now watering for a juicy steak, so I may have to shovel snow away from the grill and brave the wind for a tasty supper.

Agree as well, the hubby is a huge steak lover, and of the same mind that a truly excellent steak can be cooked and served with no sauce required. Just the flavor of the meat and spices used is enough to enjoy your steak. Ribeyes are his favorite cut and I've seen here that Chops may not be the best place to order one due to the high likelihood that it's a huge disappointment???

Was thinking of possibly scheduling a reservation on our upcoming cruise for a speciality dining venue. Now I'm not so sure it should be Chops, heard great things about the other one. Can you still order any steak that is served at Chops if you go to the other specialty restaurant on Liberty of the Seas, or is that only available in the MDR where you can order a simple filet for $15?

when we were on Adventure at Portofinos one of our party of friends wanted to order two entrees and was told there would be a charge for the extra entree, I think $10 , needless to say they stuck to one entree.

For $10 it's a steal. We went to Portofino on AOS and wanted Osso Buco to share as an appetizer. It cost the add'l charge, but it was worth every penny. It was to die for. Plus, we blow more than $10 for misc. or casino. It's a vacation--so splurge it you want a second entree.
