Live from the crashed Grandeur in Costa Maya

Recommended Posts

Ok, I'm packed (except my carry-off), and checked the Nautical notes for our location. For those this means something to:

Current position: N28(degree sign here)12', W89(degree sign here)00'. We are 148 nautical miles from New Orleans heading 339 degrees. Hope I got that right. I only had a yellow highlighter and it went by quickly.

The sea seems calm and we have a full moon tonight. I had to laugh when the screen for "expected time of arrival" came up. It said, "April 23, 2005 at 8:00 am." We are a little late. You'd think they could update that.

For anybody who cares, that position puts them right about 49 nautical miles away from the mouth of the Mississippi. She posted a little after 12 midnight, so they aren't too far off from their prediction of reaching the MS River by 2:00 AM.

Sounds like they are pretty much on schedule.

I am looking for some cheese here to go along with all of your wines!!!!!!!!

If it had been me, delayed but not cancelled!!! I would have been having a party.. in New Orleans, or spend a couple days down on the Gulf, not a far drive.. I would not have gone home, waited a few hours and then started complaining on the board.

How true fisherlady48!!!, a few days ago the big concern was if the next cruise would go out.

Now it's all about "how much the current cruisers are getting" compared to what they "owe" the 4/25 trip!

Funny thing is...I have a feeling a lot of these overblown emotions will probably spill into their cruise. They will be more concerned about rehashing their "problems" than having fun!

"Wouldn't know a good time if it fell on their heads and started to wiggle."

The only thing I will complain about is if you forget to pick me up in San Juan. Now hand me my unmbrellie drink!

I'm a "non-4/23" passenger. I opted to take the full refund and run. It's very frustrating to have your vacation delayed and changed and still having to pay the same amount for less and having to incur additional expenses while waiting.

I read the contract. Right or wrong, I feel the contract was invalid when RCCL failed to provide the trip paid for.

I feel hotels and meals should have been reimbursed for the 4/23 passengers -at the very minimum.

I think the onboard credit offered was not in balance to the out of pocket expenses I would have incurred (but I like the idea of cashing it out via chips in the casino).

I read these boards to get answers, see others opinion, enjoy chatter. And -as with life -- the posts often get out of hand. It's an open forum - you can express your opinion. It's sad how nasty posts get when a poster disagrees.

I'm glad no one was injured on the ship. I'm sorry for the bride who changed to another ship to have her wedding. I'm sorry for the folks who had to spend 3 days in Costa Maya. And I'm sorry for me!

I will complain to RCCL about my vacation change. And I might complain on these boards again.

Hey Cathy & Cindy,

Welcome back to the United States, New Orleans to be exact!

4/23 Sailors: I would hope that all of you on today's cruise will NOT take your aggressions out on the people who are working on the ship. Keep in mind, I'm sure the 700+ people who left the ship already took their tips with them and so too are most of you to get back some of your lost money. Don't be stingy, please, these folks work their tales off and misdirected aggressions towards them will only hurt them as an individual and not the company.

I knew the contract had the verbiage in it stating that you were out of luck, they are being nice by offering what they have offered. They are not obligated to do anything more than they have and they even didn't have to do that much! Sorry to see that you guys were all at each other last night. :(

I eagerly await the next update with pictures and Cathy, spill the beans on the anchor mishap!! :)

~Jake

Our formal nights were on Sunday and Thursday. I have never done a 5 day cruise, so I can't say how many nights are formal, but I'm sure there are guidelines somewhere. I'd think dressing up twice in 5 days is too much.

On our scheduled 5 nighter Formal night was the second night and there was only one. We did have a semi-formal as well.

Thanks for answering me about the 4/29 sailing. It was funny when my mom called RC & they said "Nothing to worry about it's just a dent", ha, then my mom opened the picture that I sent and she asked my dad " does this look like a dent to you". Well anyway, it looks like your cruise will not be affected so that's great. I was wondering if there was a meet and mingle and when it would be, can they add my parents names to the list? There names are Dolores and Hal. They asked me to find out for them because they would love to be there, that's if it doesn't interfer with their martini hour, they ARE quite a pair!!!! Thanks.

Not more pilot talk ..... :D

Oops! :o

It's 9:00 am and we've been seeing the NOLA skyline for a couple of hours ... please can I stay just a couple more days? I'm just not ready to leave this pretty ship. We've had an awesome time with a great staff. Tom Canosa and his gang were lots of fun. I can't wait to get back onboard.

Nice link! I think we're starting to bog down the servers though because it takes forever for the picture to refresh!! :(

Is that really where she docks? It looks rather... industrial!

Where are you in the river? I can't see you on the port cam!

(I've never been to New Orleans so I don't know if seeing the city means you're close or not!)

I agree, staying on a cruise ship for life would be nice for me too! ;)

They are building a new pier for all the cruise ships according to something I just read while following a link from that link that was posted. I'm at the port of New Orleans website now, trying to get a faster image directly from their site instead of a third party's site. That would explain the heavy equipment though...

To clarify a point...It was an offer of $300.00 per cabin, not per person, which means my cabin mate and I each would get $150.00. So that does not begin to cover the lodging and food for the two and a half days of the cruise that was missed. As I said before...I have insurance...I did cancel...But if you were in my shoes and missed out on a vacation you had been planning on, you would expect to have a more accommodating attitude on the part of the cruise line. As I stated, if RCCL does not offer any incentives to rebook me on another cruise, then I will not cruise with them again.

What I can not understand is the hostile attitude being directed at the victims of this accident on this site, rather than than the perpetrator.

You got a refund. You wisely got insurance to insulate you from a total loss. You are not a victim. That's not a word to throw around lightly.

And NO, I don't think what they're offering is fair--as a passenger, I'd be pushing for more, too. But that STILL wouldn't make me a "victim."

Hi Everyone!

Here's a link to a photo of the damage

http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=45106

Someone on our "Explorer" thread posted it.

Hope everything works out. We have a friend who's an entertainer on board and she's been keeping us posted. You should be underway by now. She said the ship's not going into dry dock so they will be repairing "her" in port.

I normally don't purchase travel insurance. I'd rather have the money in my pocket. I'm a laid back type of person and whatever comes my way I usually just cut my losses, make the best out of it and move on. I live in Texas so I won't purchase cruise insurance if I leave from Galveston, the port is a 4 hour drive from home, however if I cruise from another port I think this incident has made a believer out of me.

Until someone can come up with the actual verbage from the cruise contract AND their insurance policy, I'm bowing out of this discussion.

Pass the popcorn!

Oh, you caught that, too? :) It would be nice to see some specifics.

I'd like some popcorn, too. Extra butter for me!

Your contributions to this thread have been absolutely appalling. I'm thrilled for you that you are above any humanly emotion but you have no right whatsoever to ridicule and belittle people who feel differently.
