If you could design an NCL ship, what would you want on it?

a ship that doesn't inflate prices just because schools aren't in session:D

More Canada cruises during the summer with more than the stops of halifax and st johns, with some new england stops as well.

Non inflated spa prices.

Well-behaved kids who don't ring the doorbells on the suites or change the do not disturb signs.

How do you know it's kids changing the signs :D

My perfect ship would be smaller, like Spirit or the HAL Veendam.

It would have the retractable roof.

It would have small movie theaters.

It wouldn't be all glass and shine, it would be classy and subdued, like the ships of yore.

It would have a great kids only area and keep them away from the hot tubs and have an adult only pool.

Smoking would be allowed in limited areas, such as only one side of the top deck so I can be assured of lounging and not having to smell cancer.

It would have more cabins for solo cruisers.

The menu could be accessible on the stateroom TVs.

It would leave a little later, making it possible to fly in the day of departure for far-coasters.

It would have self-serve laundry areas with ironing boards/irons and steamers.

It would have free pizza-and it would be good pizza, served by the slice or whole, whatever you want.

It would serve lemonade.

Drink prices would be more reasonable, encouraging people to stop sneaking their own aboard because it's more affordable. If we could buy a whole bottle for what they charge in liquor stores, wouldn't more of us buy them? I would LOVE to buy whole bottles of rum/vodka on board but not paying the huge prices they charge.

I would have a large library of games; and not just the traditional games like checkers, yatzee and monopoly, but games like Balderdash and Apples to Apples.

The entertainment would have guests saying WOW every night. It would be more than just song and dance shows.

It would have great happy hours with complementary snacks/appetizers.

And that's off the top of my head.

A pool deck free of those big gaudy 50 Foot TVs. I cruise to get away from that crap not to have it pushed in my face.

A-MEN!

I must disagree with the poster who claims we want a lot on our 'dream ships' that we are not willing to pay for....not all of us anyway ;)

I don't want more at all....not in gimick-things anyway.

I want a plain old ship with no 'amusement park crap'...maybe a few less cabins a little more space and consistantly good food and service.

I think NCL has the consistantly good (no...excellent) service pretty much down pat already...so that's not even something they need to fix :)

To me, less is more when it comes to cruising.

This has already been mentioned but I would like to see a brew pub on a ship.

Having said this I know their may be some legal issues with brewing beer while in the ports of different countries. If this could be overcome I think that having a true brew pub on a ship would be a huge draw. The beer could be sold for a higher price that the BMC stuff they have on board now so there would be a good chance of nice profit on this. Also the advertising that could be done about the "first brew pub on board" would be significant.

If brewing on board would not be possible I would then suggest that they take one of their new venues, O'Sheehan's or Maltings and offer some of the quality micro brews that are available.

I attended the "beer tastings" on the Dawn and, although the bartender made these events very fun, there really wasn't any special beers (for the beer geek) that we tasted and the information that was given about beer during the presentation was hard to understand and mostly incomplete and incorrect. This event could be enhanced greatly. The event was $15, I would gladly pay $20 - $25 for an event with some true craft beer.

An adults only covered pool area more like the Solarium on RCI's voyager class ships. Much better beer selection. More ethnic foods on the buffet. A system to enforce no-chair-hogging rules. Cutting people off who are drunk and obnoxious. More subdued decor. Smaller ships without giant tvs. Wi fi. More interesting itineraries in the Caribbean. Seating returned to the returned promenade deck. A changing menu at Cagney's breakfast and lunch for suite passengers. Alarm clocks in the cabins.

AidaBlu has a full brewery at sea so brewing on board is possible.

Thanks for the info. I Google it and sure enough! Come on NCL, you guys are inavators what about a brew pub for the Breakaway? You could partner up with one of the larger microbreweries or one of the brewery chains.

Say yes, I will book today!

We have a new restaurant here wher you walk along a line and they top your pizza and put it thru a conveyor type oven. The thin crust is really good. I get chicken, black olives, artichoke hearts. Pair with a caesar salad.

Pizza is inexpensive and easy to make good. Wonder why the cruise lines haven't mastered this???

NCL to bring back the old New England/Canada cruise. Newport, Bar Harbor, Portland, Boston and St.Johns (CA) round trip New York.

I also would like them to reinstate the electronic bingo machines. I don't mind the price I just can't handle those cards.

:)

  • 4 weeks later...

I've only been on one NCL ship -- the Gem, which I loved. I'm booked on the Epic and already have a wish list:

- Solo Studios with balconies -- these can be narrow rooms, I don't even mind a twin bed if I've got a little room to move around.

- Movies on demand from the stateroom TVs (for a fee is okay if it's reasonable)

- Very limited smoking areas -- maybe design a bar/lounge/casino area and selected deck areas just for smokers, and leave the rest of the public areas smoke-free. I'd also like to see a section of "smoker balconies" limited to one side/section of the ship

- Adults-only areas accessible only by keycard (with age verification)

- Free wi-fi in staterooms and public lounge areas

- Lemonade and sweet tea available at beverage stations throughout the ship (it's so difficult to dissolve sweetener in cold tea)

- While I'd love a self-service laundry, what I really want is somewhere I can go to press or steam my clothes!

- More shaded areas on deck. I love to watch the ocean and enjoy the fresh air but try to avoid too much sun exposure.

- Definitely go to digital-only previews of photos (and mail the prints you purchase to your home, or have an option to purchase them on disk).

- Provide some lounge areas with only quiet music for friends to congregate in the evening just to hang, talk, and enjoy drinks.

- Provide some nice quiet areas with comfy seating and daylight for people who want to read -- I loved the reading on the chaise lounges in the Spinnaker Lounge -- at least until they launched into a Bingo game!
