InTheCruisingYearsOfLife Posted March 8, 2012 #26 Share Posted March 8, 2012 Updated davits that are capable of lowering lifeboats into the sea even when the ship is listing to a greater degree than whatever the current (probably antiquated) requirements are. Some sort of non-intrusive cabin and hallway wall design element that could be used to literally "climb the walls", if the unthinkable (read: Concordia) event ever occurred again -- the challenges of getting out of a tipped-over ship. A small fire extinguisher prominently visible in every cabin. Chocolate mints on the pillow, and emergency backup mints on the bathroom counter. jints07 Posted March 8, 2012 #28 Share Posted March 8, 2012 To be clear, I had a FANTASTIC time on my initial voyage with NCL but if we get to make a list of additional things we would like here's mine: --24 hour deli counter for sandwich type snacks (will gladly pay for it if the quality is there) --STARBUCKS :p (or just better coffee) --laundry --drink cards (for a fee of course) :D --improve on the free-for-all general population tender ticket distribution. Gotta be a better way than stressing people out at breakfast --police the incredibly rude people that think dropping your towel on a deck chair at 8am reserves it for the whole day  --agree with the sentiments about digital pictures. We are asked to conserve water by re-using towels so than I ask that all that printed paper be conserved by not using it! --a system that allows people to call each other on the boat but doesn't cost an insane 2.50. I'm fine with an outrageous price to call people OFF the boat, but passenger to passenger should somehow be accommodated.

I'm fine with an outrageous price to call people OFF the boat, but passenger to passenger should somehow be accommodated. How about phone/text data package? Say $4.95 a day for 15 min of phone/50 texts and 10 meg of data. If you offered this and other lines did not your younger demographic would respond. I really enjoyed being off line and that was huge to me, I just know for a 20 something and teens it is something akin to taking my scotch away from me. moonjelly Posted March 8, 2012 #30 Share Posted March 8, 2012 Forward observation lounge for lectures, gatherings, amazing vistas by day and hoppin' nightclub at night with the ocean right there to see and enjoy. More deck space and promenade to commune with the ocean. Aft hot tub(s) and pool so you can play by the pool while enjoying the view of the wake. Jokelady Posted March 8, 2012 Author #31 Share Posted March 8, 2012 I pondered my own question today and here are a few ideas I would like to see... * Bring back indoor movie theatres on the ship and play some more up to date movies. Make a deal with a movie theatre group and allow for people to see current films. Offer popcorn too! In Canada it's Cineplex not sure in states. I would even be willing to pay to see a movie aboard the ship if it was new. * Have more selection's on the TV so kids can watch something before bed. I like to watch a bit of TV before I pass out. Even DVD or Blueray players in the rooms so we can bring movies for the kids? * White hot party is great... why not have a pajama party for the whole family? * More on board classes I agree. Cooking, music, dancing etc * More themed cruises like music with a well known artist. I know the KISS cruise is coming for Halloween. * Better desserts. Get rid of that hideous jello / pudding type stuff. How about carrot cake or pies ala mode? * Serve lemonade during the day * Waterslides need to have stronger water flow... bigger is better too! * Self serve laundry like others said. Be great to take home clean laundry or wash a garment if you stain it or something. * Play Quest "EVERY" night LOL
lotus land Posted March 8, 2012 #32 Share Posted March 8, 2012 My dream ship would have: - the great staff - bigger Posh Area - a swimming big enough for laps - promenade deck - non-smoking casino - indoor sitting where we can look out into the ocean - quiet areas away from the noise and music - better food in the main dining room: real lobster and better steaks - speedier and more reasonably priced high speed internet - HD TV in room - No chair hogs

I would like to add... Flashlights in each cabin, emergency cans of spam and water, dingy, copy of the Poseidon adventure in every room for reference. Didn't that ship wind up on it's side in the movie? I did enjoy the chocolate mints of that other cruise line. I really enjoy the towel animals. Kids get a kick out of them. REAL DOUBLE BEDS... Pszaffveauhraunne Posted March 8, 2012 #34 Share Posted March 8, 2012 A swimming pool with a shallow (3-4') end for those adults who aren't terribly strong swimmers but still want to enjoy the pool. Make the photo lab digital, and tied to your key card. Lemonaid on tap as a free drink option.

bob brown Posted March 8, 2012 #36 Share Posted March 8, 2012 Forward observation lounge for lectures, gatherings, amazing vistas by day and hoppin' nightclub at night with the ocean right there to see and enjoy. Exactly. And call it The Spinnaker.;) Actually, that is my favorite venue on NCL ships, and I deeply regret the fact that they have eliminated the one on the Dawn in favor of more cabins.... goodguyrick Posted March 8, 2012 #37 Share Posted March 8, 2012 The Spinnaker lounge on the Star was moved to where the Galleria was, maybe they did the same on the Dream? Since the ships are geared towards adults, I would want more kid activities with area age appropriate. The teens need more to do on the ship. I think this would encourage more families to cruise and give the other cruisers peace of mind.
megaelch Posted March 8, 2012 #38 Share Posted March 8, 2012 Like many resorts offer in europe and the caribbean i would love to have a real all-inclusive option including all drinks, tips, fees for special activities ( bowling ) and a free excursion per port, including transfers to / from nearest airport or train station. So i do not feel nickled and dimed again and again .... Must not be ultra premium wines or artisan beers , but considering reasonable bottles of wine are around 10 USD in wholesale and a cask of beer ( 20 bottles ) in europe is available for 13 USD it cannot be that hard ...... che5904 Posted March 8, 2012 #41 Share Posted March 8, 2012 Some terrific ideas - particularly the non-smoking casino and more adult-only areas. Also, would like to see an outdoor deck in the spa. Rare insidecabin Posted March 8, 2012 #42 Share Posted March 8, 2012 Looking at some of the ideas so far personal comunication For Person to person they could extend the exiting phone system. The crew and the Suites allready get portable phones, provide a rental service to others. might be family friendly, parents could rent one phone so the kids could contact at any time from the regular phones. Provide local services for mobile/cell phone users within the micro cell. Beds Non twins together(double/queen/king) beds are available in some cabins mostly the suites. Something different Extending the studio concept and combining with multi cabin suites. Have a few cabins solo or twins around the size of regular inside OV conected to a balcony living room like the 2 beds or the GV. this way family/friend groups could get together. current ship design makes this hard with the corridor layouts might be possible at forward/ aft location to create something, balconies on deck ten(jewel class) are good for 6-10more if doubled up
sverigecruiser Posted March 8, 2012 #43 Share Posted March 8, 2012 I really like the eleveator from the pool deck to the Epic Club and POSH on the Epic. An elevatar like that but going through the whole ship, to all decks, should be very nice. I should also like if they had one formal restaurant. gelo7 Posted March 8, 2012 #44 Share Posted March 8, 2012 One thing I would add is a retractable roof to the pool deck. Like they have on Costa ships. Ditto....
che5904 Posted March 8, 2012 #45 Share Posted March 8, 2012 I should also like if they had one formal restaurant. Wouldn't that kind of go against what NCL's freestyle concept is all about "whatever, whenever, whereever" This way here you can dress formal whenever and wherever you like without dictating how others should dress. Barb Nahoumi Posted March 8, 2012 #46 Share Posted March 8, 2012 A dedicated movie theater a self service launderette on each deck Cabins for solo passengers on each ship, where they would not be surcharged. Scheduled classes and lectures on a variety of subjects.

Scheduled classes and lectures on a variety of subjects. I've never been to the matinees that some of the sailings offer in the Stardust theatre, but I can't see how that actully differs from a dedicated movie theatre. Would there be a difference, I thought that was good multi use when space for things on a ship was limited. I don't think the self service laundry on each deck is necessary. That would be fine but even one on the ship would be better than what they now have. Not that I want to do laundry on vacation or even would but it would be a nice option for those on a back to back, or longer cruise. I think the solo idea is a good one. I had a relative who wanted so much to go with us on our cruises. She couldn't find someone to bunk with her and as a senior could not afford to pay double price. I also have a widowed father in law that so much wants to do an Alaska cruise and has the same issue as my relative. Yes I'd like to see more class type offerings. On our first cruise I went to photography class/lecture. It appeared to be quite well attended (maybe they all aren't). That type of thing wasn't offered on our last cruise. KevinsCruising Posted March 8, 2012 #48 Share Posted March 8, 2012 A full movie theater with popcorn, candy and drinks available. A large sports bar with big screens everywhere and various types of beer available. Non stop sports playing ! More dance clubs Larger pool area so there lounge chairs for everyone Bring back the Spinaker to where it belongs on top on all ships like the Jewel class ships. For us older cruisers..bring back the midnight buffet ! Make sure the GYM is not above any cabins. ( On the Jewel class the gym is above suits - all we heard is weights banging all day and early morning ) Bring back the champagne greeting.... not sure why that disappeared so quickly. Larger kids crew area. Let them really have the time of their life ! Special menus for special dietary needs such as Gluten free, diabetic, etc.
Jokelady Posted March 8, 2012 Author #49 Share Posted March 8, 2012 I didn't get much sleep last night.... and I blame all of you LOL. I read all the suggestions just before I drifted off and then I spent the night dreaming about ship building. By the time morning came I was busy trimming the fat on my ship because I packed too many ideas into one vessel and the powers that be said NO WAY JOSE! hahaha I was on the Star and they had a designated movie theatre with movie seats and it was awesome. I wish we had popcorn and snacks when we saw the movie "UP" in it. The selection wasn't overly great but "UP" was perfect as we had two of our kids with us. It was a ncie way to spend an afternoon due to poor weather outside. The theatre could be used for lectures and other events and I know it was on our sailing. I really liked the hard serve ice cream that the Epic had on the cruise. I sure hope the Pearl has it too! It was nice to have maple walnut ot orange sherbert instead of the standard soft serve vanilla and chocolate. Nothing beats an ice cream deck side on a hot sea day. I really would love to see double beds in the room and was not aware some had them other then suites etc. I hate getting the crack to sleep in... sucks. I love the Blue Lagoon for late night munchies and I hope the Breakaway has that offering as well. I know the Breakaway is still under development so it's not too late for changes if they don't have it LOL. Keep the ideas coming as I know NCL is watching ;)
