Smoke smell in Bistro on 5

I thought I read that smoke wafts into the Bistro from time to time since it is near the door to the smoking area, and smokers usually don't stray far from the door before lighting up. Has anyone experienced this? Does it happen often or only now and then. Can I select my own table to minimize the chance of smelling smoke?

I personally have not noticed cigarette odor (and am very sensitive), but do see how it occasionally could be a factor as there is an outdoor smoking area nearby. I would just request to be seated far from the entrance (the tables closest to the entrance of Bistro on 5 are also the tables closest to the doors that open outdoors to the smoking area). Then there should be a near zero chance of being impacted.

Thanks, all. I am not going to worry about this anymore. We are very close to trying our first Celebrity cruise and the smoking policy is the main reason. We have had serious problems with our balconies on Princess. Sadly, I believe the new Princess policy is causing smokey atriums (and I am not even sure non-smoking balconies are being enforced). Some say the atriums are OK, but we found the atrium smokey before the new Princess policy and now with more smokers in the casino which opens to the atrium, how could it not be worse? Princess has actually put a number of tables and chairs in the casino to encourage smokers to sit and smoke. And again the casino opens to the atrium.

But I don't want to go through the trouble of switching if the improvement is only incremental. I will miss the Princess mini suites and promenad deck. Still all that is work very little if I have a nicotine triggered headache.

Which ship? I never noticed it on the Solstice and I really am sensitive to smoke. We ate there several times. Loved eating there.

We smelled smoke in Bistro 5 on the Silhouette but no one could find the source.

I ate in Bistro (on Silhouette) several times in October and again on the February cruise and have never smelled cigarette smoke. Maybe someone overcooked a crepe????

I have been on both the Solstice and the Equinox and the entrance to the Bistro ( where the podium is) is the area farthest from the doors that lead to the smoking area.

My husband is very sensitive to the smell of smoke, he can even tell if someone is smoking in the car/van/lorry next to us in a traffic queue (you are not allowed to smoke in a works vehicle here and he can tell they are without seeing them)

We have eaten in Bistro on 5 many many times in different Solstice class ships and have never smelled cigarette smoke on any occasion.

I have a very keen sense of smell and never smelled cigarette smoke inside the Eclipse when we sailed on her. We had an aft cabin with the smoking area two decks above us and only occasionally got a slight wiff of smoke. I'm the kind of person who can smell smoke when others can't. I was in my son's car and asked him if someone smoked in there, he said holy cow Mom that was 2 weeks ago and he had the window open! I think Celebrity's smoking policy is great and I don't think you should worry about smoke on one of their ships especially S class. I have heard they are great with enforcing the smoking rules too, thankfully I have never witnessed someone breaking them.

Obviously very important to the OP, but I think after all these threads we have all given as much assurance as we can. OP, maybe if you had one thread where you posted ALL your smoking/balcony/food questions, we could give you a very comprehensive view rather than doing it piecemeal as we have been.

Sometimes you just have to pull the trigger and go ahead book the cruise without having every detail worked out ahead of time. Many of us have tried to give you a comfort level with Celebrity but some things are just so subjective--and it is impossible to know what YOU feel is acceptable vs. what the rest of us feel is acceptable. I admire your persistence in making sure X is right for you, I think you just gotta do it! ;)

I went on the Equinox and didn't smell smoke anywhere (except on the Promenade deck, of course). I ate in Bistro on 5 twice and there weren't any smokers nearby. That said, you can't predict what will happen on your cruise. On Celebrity, I had the misfortune of having a cabin next to a couple who seemed to bathe in perfume/cologne. I was driven from my balcony when they came out to spray themselves multiple times a day. The smell came through the walls or vents. I've never been driven off my balcony by any smell on Princess. What can you do? I've read several Celebrity reviews where people had smoke experiences. There's always a risk no matter where you go. I enjoyed my Celebrity cruise and may cruise with them again, but I went back to Princess because I like their product better. I encourage you to give Celebrity a try. You won't know until you try it.

I've never noticed any smoke smell at Bistro. The only smell, is the wonderful crepes being made !

you HAD to mention crepes eh??

Hmm...wonder if Radio will swing by on Silhouette for some crepes...wonder if he can bring me a doggie bag?? LOL

You are correct; I had that backwards. So the best place to sit to minimize any risk of smelling cigarette smoke would be near the entrance to Bistro on 5 - but chances are no matter where one sits it will be a non issue.
