PH suite please tell me Why?

What if anything besides dishes comes in the pantry? Is the refrigerator in the pantry also used as the minbar?

If you have stayed in the PH before what is your favorite thing about it? What keeps you coming back?

Thinking about a PH for next cruise

The refrigeratoe is a regular size refrigerator -- and keeps things really cold.

We have had various items in the pantry. There is a coffee maker, sometimes we have had a microwave, there is a toaster, on the Westerdam we had 3 blenders. There is coffee there as well as tea bags if you want to make your own coffee, tea.

We like the PS on the Vista class ships better than the R and S class ships -- mainly because the living room is at the opposite end of the cabin. Also on the Vista class ships the bedroom has doors that can be closed to make that area private.

On the R and S class ships there is only a curtain separating the bedroom and the living room.

We like the PS because of the extra space. One time going down the Orinoco River we enjoyed sitting in living room up close to the floor to ceiling windows and watching everything.

any particular ship?

I've only been in one PH ( a lovely, lovely upsell) and it was a real experience. In the pantry, there is a coffee maker, coffee, dishes, silverware. If memory serves there was a kettle and the fridge is HUGE. A full sized fridge. We stored wine, water soda for all of our friends and we still had tons of room. We had still had a mini bar.

Aside from all the wonderful room - it's nice to have the two tv's (one in the bedroom and one in the living room) and the two dvd's.

enjoyed the dining room area - we definitely did insuite dining and it was an absolute wonderful experience. The table was beautifully made up.

Of course, we had company every day - so easy to entertain and just ordered yummy munchies every day (hors' d'hoeuvre - free) for them.

In the china cabinet/commode there is tons of beautiful glassware - Waterford I believe. Easy to entertain - every kind of glass you could possibly need and a good number of each.

I sent pictures to Joanie of our PH on the Zuiderdam if you want to take a look - including the dining room set up.

The art in the PH is usually very nice as well.

If you are travelling with any friends it is a real boon. The jacuzzi on the veranda was very nice. On the veranda there is tons of room:) We had a table for 6 outside plus lounge chairs plus chairs. We easily had 20 people on our Zuidie balcony:)

Saw the penthouse on the NA on the cabin crawl and it's veranda was equally as huge. Our cabin crawl ended there where we all enjoyed the luxury that our fellow cc'er had.

hope this helps a bit:)

We really enjoy the PS for the space, the ability to entertain and welcome friends, the huge bathtub, and the ability to have bedroom doors that close on the Vista class ships. My DH enjoys the recliner in the living room area. The PS also offers a wonderful opportunity to have meals in your suite either in the dining room or the veranda. On the Vista class ships, the veranda is huge and has plenty of seating for friends or family to join you as well as a inviting hot tub. We also enjoy the extra guest bath.

We generally travel with friends, and it makes a wonderful gathering place. I hope that you have the opportunity to enjoy the PS, but beware, there is no going back.

Op - before I forget - just in case - the PH on the Prinsendam is very small, the smallest in the fleet. Totally different - just in case you are looking at that ship - DBA posted pics of it's PH on his blog (Dutch By Association).

In fact he has several PH's there - which you may find helpful.

Although the PH is small on the Elegant Explorer if the upsell/upgrade fairy wanted to visit me I don't think I would argue about it:):):) (ok it's wishful thinking;))

Dh liked the large table for dining/breakfast.

I liked the second 'half' bath.

He liked the sitting room area.

I did not like having a dressing table that I'm used to in the "S" and "SA" suites. The area set aside really wasn't as good to my taste.

There's microwavae, full size refrigerator, sink..... I call it a butler's pantry.

We enjoyed the PS but truly love the "S" cabins.

Never had a PS on any cruiseline, but thought it would be wonderful to have because:

1. 2nd 1/2 bathroom

2. separate living room (I suffer from insomnia ... so if I was up, hubby could sleep easily)

3. Jacuzzi out on deck

4. Oversized jacuzzi bathtub.

5. So much room

I would like to do this once in my lifetime. We are booked in a SC suite (AFT wrap balcony) for our next cruise. I priced out the PS but it doubled our costs. So a no go, but it was fun to dream.

If it doesn't get booked - maybe the upsell fairy will visit you:D:D

If you should book a PS, be sure to know that the designs are not the same on "S" and "R" Class ships as they are on Vista and Signature. Both are very nice but there are differences.

Oh wouldn't that be nice. Probably not very likely tho as we have our cabin tagged "do not change". We are thrilled to get one of the Aft wraps with a completely covered balcony. So excited about that too. It will be our first suite. We had a mini-suite on Carnival years ago ... it was nice, but tiny balcony. Luckily sister & family were in mini-suite next door so we were able to open the divider and extend the balcony.

don't worry about the 'do not change' - they can still offer you the upsell:D Doesn't make it free - but usually a much better price than if you booked it in the first place:) I've heard of a couple of over priced upsells, but normally it's a really good deal if you want that type of thing.

sounds like you are all set either way:D Enjoy your cruise:D

That is good news too then. If the price was right, we would upsell to the PS for sure. But either way, as you stated, we are all set. Now to sit and wait and research the next 369 days!!!! We booked for May 2013 because of the itinerary and cabin. This way too we could upgrade to a suite for our cruise of a lifetime to Glacier Bay. Can't wait. I've always felt part of the fun of cruising is the anticipation and time to research before we go.

Oh my heavens - look at our signatures - we are sailing within a day of each other (we're headed in the opposite direction though on the Prinsendam):D

Obviously I totally agree on the anticipation and time to research before we go:D

Congratulations on your PS booking. Be sure and let them know when you arrive for check in that you are in the PS. The Concierge has always come to get us and escort us onboard. Another perk of the PS is that they will do all they can to accomodate your dining request and Pinnacle Grill reservations. The PS will be perfect for your Alaska cruise. Enjoy, and please don't hesitate to ask if you have any more questions. There are several here that can help you.

Anyone ever get an upsell offer for the PS from an SC or SA. ?

If so how much do you feel is reasonable to pay for it? I would think that if it's close to sailing and it hasn't been booked an upsell might be pretty reasonable, but of course it's just my guess.

The SA SUITES SEEM TO HAVE ALL THE PERKS OF THE PS except the extra room.

our upsell was from an SA and yes, basically the deluxe verandas technically have all that the Penthouse does. But it's a lot easier to do in room dining in it :) how long is your cruise, where abouts and what ship and we can maybe help with a reasonable offer;) Bottom line is you need to know what YOU are willing to pay for the upsell IF it's offered.

Length of cruise, ship and where you are cruising to plays a big part.

Kween Karen's blog shows the Penthouse empty - so obviously no one wanted to pay the discounted price or they didn't want to give it away - not sure:confused:

Going in two weeks on a seven day Alaska explorers cruise on the Westerdam.

Did you say the PS SHOWS AS EMPTY? I guess if they don't get what they think it's worth they'll let it stay empty.

Karen just got back from the Med/Black Sea cruise. The penthouse was empty for this cruise but the cruise was also 62 days.
