Rare Cruise Raider Posted October 13, 2017 #9 Share Posted October 13, 2017 She's a sister to the Grand but with a few things that differ on the Star: - closets in the staterooms are larger - Skywalkers instead of the One5 club (Skywalkers was removed from the Grand) - there is a mid ship staircase that is accessible to passengers - no window suites - no Alfredos pizza parlor There may be a few other minor differences but otherwise, you won't notice a lot of differences except the Star is a bit newer than the Grand. chickadee1 Posted November 22, 2017 #10 Share Posted November 22, 2017 A couple questions about pool!! 1. Is the water heated? Going to be in Alaska end of May/beginning of June. 2. Is there anyway into the water by steps with railing and not just ladders?? Thank you!!
Mike45LC Posted November 23, 2017 #11 Share Posted November 23, 2017 If I remember correctly, the roof over that pool is retractable. So on a warm weather cruise, it is open air and on Alaska, it is covered.
trophy_23 Posted November 25, 2017 #12 Share Posted November 25, 2017 If I remember correctly, the roof over that pool is retractable. So on a warm weather cruise, it is open air and on Alaska, it is covered. This is what I thought too, but on our recent California coastal cruise (30°C weather) they didn't open the roof at all. I was surprised, as we have even had the roof open in Alaska (on HAL) when the weather was warm. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
DRS/NC Posted November 26, 2017 #13 Share Posted November 26, 2017 Chickadee1 A couple questions about pool!! 1. Is the water heated? Going to be in Alaska end of May/beginning of June. 2. Is there anyway into the water by steps with railing and not just ladders?? #2 No, the only entrance into the water in the covered pool is the ladders. The pool w/steps is the Terrace Pool on deck 12 aft & possibly the Lap Pool on #15 forward (spa area). I always check out steps vs. ladders since I have mobility issues. #1 However, when I was on the Ruby in Alaska this year (May 20-17), it was warm enough the first & last days (to/from) Seattle to use the aft pool which was somewhat heated. ENJOY!
2pbears Posted November 26, 2017 #14 Share Posted November 26, 2017 A couple questions about pool!! 1. Is the water heated? Going to be in Alaska end of May/beginning of June I don't think so. We were on the Grand (sister ship to the Star) in October. Grandsons wanted to swim but the water was too cold for even the kids to get in. They opted for the spa, which is right there next to the pool.
trophy_23 Posted December 1, 2017 #15 Share Posted December 1, 2017 All of the pools were heated on our recent trip. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
