janacin Posted June 15, 2012 #1 Share Posted June 15, 2012 We're considering a cruise on the Diamond early next year. Has there been a dry dock fairly recently? Does she have any of the new stuff that the Sapphire (her twin) has had? Is there a dry dock scheduled? Any recent Diamond cruisers? Would love to hear friom you. caribill Posted June 15, 2012 #2 Share Posted June 15, 2012 Last drydock was in the fall of 2010. Has what the Sapphire has except for the International Cafe.
beg3yrs Posted June 15, 2012 #3 Share Posted June 15, 2012 Just spent 35 days on the Diamond Princess. She's in great shape. Best of all, the attitude of the crew and staff was the best I've ever seen on a ship.
jamscckmc Posted June 17, 2012 #4 Share Posted June 17, 2012 Will be on the Dia,one in Sept. Will miss the international Cafe. Are there snacks available, like cookies/pizza available somewhere else? Does the Diamond have the new pillow top beds or the usual hard as rocks beds? Thanks!
caribill Posted June 17, 2012 #5 Share Posted June 17, 2012 Will be on the Dia,one in Sept. Will miss the international Cafe. Are there snacks available, like cookies/pizza available somewhere else? Cookies will be available at times at the Lobby Bar on deck 5. Of course snacks (inmcluding cookies) will be available all afternoon and evening in the Horizon Court buffet. Pizza has never been available at the International Buffet. On the Diamond, you can get Pizza at Prego Pizza by Neptune's pool on deck 14.
Pia1913 Posted June 17, 2012 #6 Share Posted June 17, 2012 Does the Diamond have the new pillow top beds or the usual hard as rocks beds? Thanks! We had them in our Baja balcony cabin.

Pia1913 Posted June 18, 2012 #8 Share Posted June 18, 2012 Just ask your steward if there isn't one on your bed already.:D . Doubt if steward can supply mattress. That's what OP was talking about :)
Rare MicCanberra Posted June 18, 2012 #9 Share Posted June 18, 2012 . Doubt if steward can supply mattress. That's what OP was talking about :) Sorry, I am sure I read somewhere that they add the 'egg carton' type topping to the existing mattress if it isn't the pillow top mattress, which gives the same effect.:D
san diego sue Posted June 18, 2012 #10 Share Posted June 18, 2012 We were also on the Diamond with Pia on Baja deck and we had the old hard mattress with an egg crate over it. Also our pillows were so soft, had to ask for additional pillows.

How is it that Pia gets the new stuff!?!?

Or Pia may be just lucky.:D
tonyt Posted June 18, 2012 #13 Share Posted June 18, 2012 I think balcony rooms and higher have received the new mattresses already. The remaining cabins will receive them later, probably during dry dock.

Bowie MeMe Posted June 19, 2012 #15 Share Posted June 19, 2012 A dry dock is not needed to replace mattresses. Hope not as I'm on Diamond for 16 days in Oct./Nov. I will miss the IC but then do you really need that peanut butter fudge pudding twice a day YES:o
