Rude Behavior

Our worst experience was on Princess.

We were at the Chef's table which is in the MDR and the couple seated next to us were quite drunk.

They began to argue loudly and ended up in a fist fight, the husband knocked her to the floor and she was yelling at everyone, it's not my fault.

The whole table was in shock, people in the MDR were staring at us.

It seemed like an eternity before the matre'd acted...he finally stepped in and security escorted the couple from the dining room.

All this happened before the first course was even served:eek:

This was a 10 day MX riviera cruise!

We don't deal with hoodrats on a daily basis and that's a big reason we book on Princess.

A little more refined.

I'm not uppity but I don't need that crap on vacation.

Excellent point, and valid too.

One thing stops me from booking Princess and that is the disturbing lists I experienced one night, at sea

where Caribbean Princess heeled over maybe 10 degrees and stayed there for awhile.

Research and discussion on the CC Princess message-boards..

http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1529300

reveals that this is a not-uncommon occurrence on those tall flat-sided Princess vessels that catch big wind like a huge sail

and this feeds right into my nightmare scenario where one of these cruise ships flops over on its side!

The Costa Concordia incident didn't help either, although its causative factor was admittedly quite different.

It still flopped over on its side: same nightmare.

Other than that, my one Princess cruise was a real pleasure

and very much a classy cut above plebian Carnival, much as I still love/like the latter for value.

Just to balance some of the horror stories about short cruises,

our last Carnival trip was a 4-day out of L.A., going to Catalina and Ensenada

and I don't remember any wild or rude or lewd behavior at all.

Like you, we have been blessed with (nine) pleasurable cruises with zero unseemly behaviour..

but then we're all crashed out by 10:30-11 p.m

coz we both rise early to get shots like this...

Two incidents of verbal rudeness stand out to me from our recent cruise. These two exchanges actually mirrored some of the snarky comments made on the board sometimes.

We were in the lobby of the Holiday Inn across from SeaTac airport waiting for a Seattle Express shuttle and I said good morning to a lady who had identified herself as going on the same cruise. Her immediate comment to me was that she was a "VIP" and that she was taking a "town car" to the pier. Was I a VIP too? No... Well, it was going to take us hours and hours to get to the pier... so forth and so on. (It took us about a half hour and was much cheaper than her town car)-

Second charm school graduate- a man was sitting next to me at a trivia game when in a lull I asked him where his group was from. He replied "North Carolina". I asked what excursions they had planned. He said none- they were just going out to walk about town. So far so good.

I said that North Carolina was beautiful... we had visited Biltmore Estate and loved the Asheville area especially. He proceeded to tell me that he didn't see any sense in going to see and pay for seeing some dead rich guy's house. In other words, he slammed me for saying that the area was beautiful... and oh by the way- he also was stealing our trivia answers by eavesdropping on our group. Rude:eek::p;)

The rudest behavior I've seen to date was on the Carnival Splendor in May of 2011. One evening, my husband and I were strolling aft on the Lido deck, and as we were beside the aft pool I noticed what at first looked like rain falling just to my right, when suddenly I realized it was NOT rain - there were 2 young men standing at the rear of deck 10, and one of them was *urinating*. They were both laughing hysterically about how far his "stream" was going, as it splashed down on the decks below them. Thank God we hadn't walked into it! I notified the bartender there about what was going on, and some poor employees had to scrub down and sanitize *everything*. Nothing at all happened to the peeing guy or his friend - he stood around laughing about it for a while.

Disgusting!

In Costa Maya my kids and I had a nice lunch at the restaurant at the pier. My son asked for a sprite and got a mixed drink by accident. He didn't like it and gave it to me. Very strong!

Years later just my son and I went back. The place had really changed. The Mexican waiters were going toable to table pouring alcohol down people's throats. Young and old alike partook. People would yell and scream for more. The dancing got lewd. It was disgusting. My son, a youth pastor, and only 17, was toatlly grossed out as was I. The tourists were so badly drunk some should have go to the hospital. We left before finishing.

On the ship in the MDR sometimes there are tables of people who are way to drunk to be there. One cruise 7 of 8 twenty somethings were all drunk and very loud. They were shouting all over the dining room, getting up to change seats like a Chinese fire drill and generally acting like a$$es. The next 2 nights the didn't show. By the next night they were not drunk and acted normal again and apologized to the wait staff.

Had to report a domestic argument in the cabin next to me once. Someone or thing was being thrown hard against the wall. Security spoke to them and it stopped. Scary.

The drunkest behavior i have seen is almost always at ports, not the the ship itself! Usually a place like Senor Frogs....just all out nasty, disgusting, be embarressed of yourself in the morning type of behavior!!!

Rudest is hands down always line ditching! That seems to be on cruises of all lines and at all AIs i have been at....my conclusion is that it is a cultural thing?!?!?! I have been in a buffet line with 2 of my kids, my hands full and trying to get us all food on our plates when some basically takes the spoon almost out of my hand to get food before me! Or when i am pushing my youngest in a stroller onto the elevator to have someone get in front of me and then no room for me! Maners and common courtesty can be had to find sometimes!

Drunk grown men whistling at my 13 year old daughter in the hallways.

And one of the weirdest events of the cruise, a man who was very drunk and dancing with his wife outside the small bar near the casino grabbed me as I walked by with my wife and whispered very drunkingly into my ear that I better keep my F***ing hands off his wife, that she was his. I had honestly never seen his wife before that moment and promised him that she was all his and moved along.

I saw an old drunk guy looking in my cabin window and almost panicked ---- But then I realized I was in front of a mirror !!!

Where is the like button, I was reading that thinking, how creepy. Then I got to the second sentence. :) Good one :p

On the Paradise this past May the woman who was so wasted she couldn't resist interrupting the comedian's act. He wasn't taking it very well, lots of F bombs flying. Entire place was yelling for her to leave. So she joined comedian on the stage and had to be escorted out by security. Pretty entertaining!

Do you think it might be better after school is back in session? I booked a cruise in September hoping that might be the case.

Possibly. We always cruise off-season (Sept, Oct, Nov). Maybe because most of our experience has been with DCL, or maybe the atmosphere IS different during non-peak seasons, but so far, we don't have any of these "shocking" tales to tell.

I have seen many posters complaining about rude behavior and drinking. I would like to hear about some experiences people have had with such drinking and rude behavior, what is it that people were doing to be considered rude?

A couple years back, husband and I were by pool watching an obviously drunk mother (50s) daughter (20s) they were talking loudly about the moms behavior at the bar by casino the previous night. The woman turns to us and says were you there last night? We laughed said no, so she said well let me show you what happened, she dropped her shorts bent over and shook her bare behind at us......Just have to say that I am glad I wasn't in the bar the previous night and wish I wasn't on the deck that morning. lol

As an old drunk guy people use to complain about my walking while drunk on the ship.

One day we went though a tropical strom and the ship was rolling back and forth from side to side.

Everyone was stumbling around like they were drunk and I was in synch walking just fine.

I feel bad for any newbies reading this thread. They're going to think they'll be on a ship full of loud, obnoxious, drunks who pee on you, scream at you, run around the ship with wild abandon, and moon you! LOL.

Note to newbies: in 8 cruises I've seen behavior like this very rarely and most of it is just people weaving because they've had a bit too much. My cruise has never been impacted other than a momentary notice of the behavior! :D

last cruise were a group of 30's ish or whatever Adults, no kids..having a few at dinner and probably before. An older lady complained to the ship about their swearing and rude behaviour. We were sitting across from the and were given dirty looks but the Women. My wife asked them if they have a problem with us and the confronted us by saying that they heard we complained to someone about them. We did no such thing, and told them off saying so. Total White Trash they looked like, and one of them came over to shake my hand like to make peace...still rude, and obnoxious. Saw lots of that on the Inspiration really turned me off...
