gabbygrrl Posted June 27, 2012 #1 Share Posted June 27, 2012 When you first board the ship, the Windjammer can be very crowded. What other options are available on a Voyager class ship? Also if you have a GS, do they have the separate dining area available to take your WJ food to or is that only on day 2 and later?
Clarea Posted June 27, 2012 #2 Share Posted June 27, 2012 When you first board the ship, the Windjammer can be very crowded. What other options are available on a Voyager class ship? Also if you have a GS, do they have the separate dining area available to take your WJ food to or is that only on day 2 and later? Cafe Promenade for sure and possibly Johnny Rockets (extra cost). The separate dining area for WJ food should be open, but this may vary ship to ship.
cb at sea Posted June 27, 2012 #3 Share Posted June 27, 2012 If you board early, the WJ isn't too bad. The other option is to eat a LATE breakfast and skip lunch altogether!
lady_cruiser Posted June 27, 2012 #4 Share Posted June 27, 2012 Or as clarea said head for the Cafe Promenade was pizza, sandwiches and/or cookies.
welshrich Posted June 27, 2012 #5 Share Posted June 27, 2012 Sometimes it can depend on the weather, if its a lovely day on embarkation people sometimes eat quicker so they can explore the ship, on cooler/rainy days they hang out in there, There is seating near the pool deck so you can take food from the WJ and find somewhere quieter outside if you prefer to be away from the crowds. kleo30 Posted June 27, 2012 #6 Share Posted June 27, 2012 It was gorgeous our first day (In November on Explorer). We grabbed our food and headed out to the pool deck and sat at a table by the windows. Lovely! I didn't even think to see if Portofino was open for suite seating that day. We rarely at in the WJ, so I don't think we ever took advantage of that. The breakfast in the morning is fabulous though.
MS52 Posted June 27, 2012 #7 Share Posted June 27, 2012 Although RCCL is our cruise choice (because we can sail out of Baltimore), I wish they would open the main dining room for lunch the first day. It is a much more civilized way to start the cruise rather than searching for a table as so many are parked there waiting for their rooms to be ready. :o
P&C4/16/67 Posted June 27, 2012 #8 Share Posted June 27, 2012 Or as clarea said head for the Cafe Promenade was pizza, sandwiches and/or cookies. How is the pizza? We are pizza lovers, hope it's good.
Langley Cruisers Posted June 27, 2012 #9 Share Posted June 27, 2012 The crowded Windjammer is a temporary situation which absolutely relieves itself at 1 pm when the cabins are ready. ;) Truth be told, we are always so excited to finally be onboard that we do not mind whatever state of confusion or flux WJ might be in. We've arrived early and had a peaceful lunch. For us, it's a time to relax and smile at each other and say, "We made it." :) But as stated, at embarkation the Café Promenade is also open and has little sandwiches, fruit cups, and killer cookies. Oh, the cookies...... :D . .
