I HATE Buffets

And that is so the beauty of cruising right? You can choose what works best for you!!! And ewwwwwwww on the European speedos.

I think one reason why I hate the crowds is because I wear a cochlear implant and it picks up all the massive noise!!

But I think everyone should just do their own thing, it's the judgemental ones that just make me smack down :p I mean people quoting how much someone has on their plate??? Who does that???

Happy sailing, Carole

You are definitely my kind of fellow cruiser!

Have Great Sailings!!

It's not that I dislike the buffet per se, it's the waiting in line and then trying to find a table with your hands full of food that is getting cold that I dislike. I tried the breakfast buffet once on the Glory. Way too long of a line, and tables scarcer than snow in July. Not fun at all.

We learned on our first cruise: find table first, establish ownership (coffee cup, water glass etc) then food. Works great!

Nothing worse than a person who judges judgemental people. Its almost like being judgemental and who does that.

I'm curious, why do you hate buffets?

I am the OP. This is my opinion, your view may vary. My dislike is not because of eating too much. Those that are mocking others for being cautious about germs may be too quick to judge. I am in cancer recovery. Chemo and radiation compromises the immune system, so I do not put myself at any unnecessary risk if I can at all help it.

IMO, Buffets are unsanitary and germ-ridden. How do I know that the people touching the serving ware washed their hands after going to the bathroom before touching them? Or they could be sick and passing along those germs. I've seen people pick up food with their fingers and then put it back in the serving tray. I've seen people eating directly from the buffet.

While I know that the same could hold true for a wait-staff and restaurant personnel, the risk is lessened a bit rather than 1000 people handling things.

I am the way I am because I HAVE to be.

Mirillian, congratulations on your successful treatment!!! Any immunocomprimised person has to protect themselves, and I agree the buffett can be a host of germs. People and especially children don't always think sanitation.

I enjoy the MDR simply because it's quieter and the food is better IMO.

I think everyone should do what they feel is best for them, it's really the beauty of having so many venues to choose from.

Happy sailing!!! Carole

Minimize the risk, Understand completely. I do disagree with you statement of fact: "Buffets are unsanitary and germ-ridden". I'm not sure how you have determined that as fact but I could say the same for every venue aboard ship since there is a strong possibility that those 1000's have also touched items at each place.

Us too, we don't do buffets. Only if no other option.

Departure lunch or a quick bite for the kids or a pizza or salad.

Otherwise no way.

Just can't get why someone always eats in the buffet. ===> 'Not nice' to give the real reasons.. ;)

Breakfast and Dinner in the Main Dining Room -always! ;)

Lunch too, if available..

Absolutely, it's terrible to roam around looking for a table with a full tray. My husband and I, when we do use the Lido, always take turns going for food, and the other sits at whichever table we found.

We've actually never been called Thogs!!!

The same way you have not proven its not a fact. Also no way germs can live in the casino...way to much second hand smoke!

I love eating in the MDR for breakfast and lunch.

If you're an eggs bendict fan order the sauce on the side, otherwise it can sit under the heat lamp for awhile and be rubbery. It's fresh if you order it on the side.

The room service is available on port days and it's good.

I also hate the buffett and avoid it.

Cheers, Carole

Thanks for the suggestion on the Eggs Benedict, Carole.

I usually order it once but am disappointed each time. Just made myself a note to order separate sauce. It's now in my cruise folder.

Here you go legion3: The facts man, just the facts: http://wwwn.cdc.gov/InspectionQueryTool/InspectionGreenSheetRpt.aspx

Looks good and does not seem to support your view of the other venues being equal germ fests like the buffet is. :D

I am not questioning the sanitation of the vessel or the kitchen. I would question the sanitation of the unwashed masses infecting the buffet area after the food arrives. I don't see any ratings on those.

Unwashed masses?

Cruise ships do not exist in some time warp version of the 60s in the Haight Ashbury district of San Francisco. Jeez.
