Sensation OVERNIGHTING in Nassau again

Everyone has their own likes and dislikes. Our first cruise was the 3 night with the over night in Nassau. Our 3 boys(all over 18) loved staying overnight since they found some other night clubs in downtown Nassau to party at until 2am.

We overnighted in Cozumel in November because we had missed our stop in Progresso (due to weather). I had never heard of an ovenight in Cozumel, so I assume it doesn't happen often. We loved it! Well, except it was rather cool and windy... :)

Since that was an unplanned event - did they open up the casino?

Hard to imagine a full night on the ship with no casino!!!!

We have the sensation booked for the 3 day to Nassau in early Sept but no overnight. We have been to Nassau numerous times... I want the overnight in Nassau as Atlantis was (not sure if they still are) offering 99.00 per night rooms (2 night min). I have an 8 yr old and he would LOVE to explore the Aquaventure. Even paying the 2 night min is MUCH cheaper than the day pass (130pp). Plus, we would have the room at night to change, etc and hang out at the hotel during the evening. As you stated, I would probably make my way back to the ship for the dinner, yet come back and hang out at the casino and hotel til late in the evening / early morning hours.

No, they didn't.

They let a lot of the staff get off the ship late that night, which was very cool because they were all soooo excited to have an unplanned evening off the ship! :)

And we managed without it because we had an extra whole day of casino time (the day we missed Progresso). :D

Sort of off topic, but... I know that I slept like a rock each night while being lulled to sleep by a moving ship and the white noise that comes from that, as well as the vibration of the ship itself. I wonder if being stationary would effect that.

Nassau raised port fees for all cruise ships that stay overnight in port. This was supposed to take effect on August 1, 2012 but now it begins on September 1, 2012.

It is no longer cost effective for cruise ships to stay in port overnight

I wonder how much it was raised... and if it was the cause of Carnival's stopping the overnight stays to begin with. If it was supposed to go into effect on 8/1/12 originally, any speculation on why Carnival ceased their overnight stays back in May?

I thought that as well...

is it because Nassau has casinos???

I always assumed that it was due to some special agreement between Nassau and Carnival --- and that some issue with that agreement is what caused the overnights to cease (with basically zero notice).

It is odd though that they are only changing the schedule for August.

I thought they couldnt open casino when in port?

Couple weeks ago I was on Monarch of the seas and we were docked until midnight and the casino opened at 7pm. Casino only closed from when we docked at noon until 7pm. Wouldn't think the local rules would be any different with Carnival and Royal.

This looks beautiful! We are going next month and will be stopping in Freeport and Nassau. Where did you go at each of these places, and what was the cost?

Thanks,

Stacey :)

The first two pics are from Our Lucaya on Grand Bahama. Just the cost of the taxi ride from Freeport dock; don't recall how much.

IIRC, the third is from a Nassau port stop - public beach near the Comfort Suites on Paradise Island, which is next to Atlantis. I know the last one is from Nassau/Paradise Island, also just past Comfort Suites. We just took a taxi to get there; don't remember the cost. My wife had a massage on the beach there, and said it was one of her best ever. I rented a jetski and took our daughter for her first ride on one.

Have a great time!

I've never done cruise shorter than 7 nights, but I wish more overnight stays were offered at certain ports. I would love to overnight at Grand Cayman (not practical with tendering, though) so as to not have to hurry back to the ship. We recently cruised to Bermuda (on RCI) and enjoyed the overnight there. I'm more interested in the ports than entertainment on the ship (not saying I don't enjoy sea days and the entertainment on the ship, just that my primary reason for cruising is for the port stops).

me too...i'd love love love more time in ports.
