How'sBartCruisin'? Posted August 17, 2012 #1 Share Posted August 17, 2012 I'm a history buff, went to college and got a history degree, loving teaching history to my students, read books and look at pictures of history. Heck, I went to a Bermuda history lecture this past Sunday on our Bermuda cruise. FYI...if you're giving a talk about Bermuda, talk about her American Revolution participation...c'mon now. Back on topic. I see threads on how cruising has changed and the cruising of old. If possible and if you experienced cruisers from the 60s, 70s, 80s and early 90s are comfortable doing so, can you post pictures of those good old days? Ships Staterooms and Suites Dining Halls Games Shows Decks Anything you have... I am a history guy and I would love to see the history and your history of cruising in pictures and if you have a little story to tell to go along with the picture, that would be great too. Thank you very much. Bart White :)
workathome Posted August 18, 2012 #2 Share Posted August 18, 2012 I hope people post their pictures, I am a big history fan also. There is actually a topic on CC "Whatever happened to" and sometimes they have pics there. I love the thread "Ship's we've sailed that no longer exist". It seemed huge at the time. lol http://www.simplonpc.co.uk/AtlanticPCs.html Looks like its about the size of Pacific Princess that the love boat was based off of that was about 690 passengers? During that time frame wasn't that considered a big ship? :)
Kartgv Posted August 20, 2012 #15 Share Posted August 20, 2012 Managed to scan a few - here's one of our favorites, which we call "Early Rum Rummers" - and no one took the bottles away to store until the end of the cruise. We even carried them onto the plane coming home. This was St. Thomas, Fairwind, 1986. More tomorrow....
pscruzinboyz Posted August 20, 2012 #16 Share Posted August 20, 2012 Being a Southern California Guy, I just did a 40 mile Bicycle ride today from Huntington Beach to the Queen Mary in Long Beach Ca. So I thought I would post these pictures. The Queen Mary...first launched in 1936 and the Carnival Splendor, launched in 2008. Like other posters...our first cruise in the Mid 80's was on the Carnival Tropical.....built in the 50's...but no scanner tonight. I do remember when the QM came to LB in 1967, I was 8 years old and remember it was a BIG DEAL.....Hundreds of Boats were out to meet her and I remember going to a Warehouse building in LB when they were selling contents of the ship......Many years later I found a Oil Painting that someone painted so I bought it at a yard sale and have it hanging behind me as I type. bigkauhuna Posted August 20, 2012 #25 Share Posted August 20, 2012 These are pictures of Queen Mary Hotel in LA, Ca. We stayed one night and it was a wonderful experience. If you have not venture to visit the QM it is well worth the time. The memories onboard of all the actors, actresses and the beautiful wood throughout the ship is spectacular. It also has the twin 40MM canon mounted that was used for protection during the WWII. Enjoy the pictures.
