Smoking on Freedom of the Seas

Recommended Posts

Bumping to see if anyone can answer the question about whether you can buy cigars onboard or if you have to bring them with you. Thank you!

They usually have a cabinet humidor set up with a small selection of sticks. Some of the brands I recall them having are Macanudos, Davidoffs, Rocky Patels, and Arturo Fuentes. Prices were a bit more than you'd pay on land, mostly between 10 and 20 bucks as I recall.

Being new to cc, I was surprised how quickly and often people jump at the opportunity to get on their soap boxes, especially when it comes to other people's pleasures

It happens a lot, you'll learn to ignore the puritans. There are many around here that hate it when the hedonists are having too much fun. ;):D

They usually sell cigars in the lounge. I have also seen them for sale in the same onboard liquor store. Not a great selection...I want to say some Macanudo's, Fuente's and maybe some Olivias? If you don't bring any onboard it is nice to be able to buy them. That being said, why not buy some in port where perhaps you might sample from an island 90 miles south of Miami?

Enjoy your cruise.

Agreed, bring some of your own (which is bound to be cheaper than prices on board) or stop by an Casa de Habanos in port if you want to spend money for that special stick :D

Is smoking allowed in Boleros on Freedom?

I was wondering the same. I know that on our cruise in February 2012, we could smoke in Boleros on Liberty. Everything else was the same...smoking on one side of the deck on promenade (I think starboard side), casino, upper story of Catacombs night club, cigar club, balcony, and one side of the sun decks (I think that was actually the opposite side as promenade). I did not find it hard to find a spot, generally in Boleros or on the promenade. I do have an eCig as well and smoked it in the "smoking" areas even though the official policy allows you to smoke everywhere except in the MDR and the Theatre.

I would be completely happy if there was a dedicated lounge that you could smoke in and it had a bar a flat screen and was open 24/7 not saying the bar has to serve around the clock just a place you could go to for a smoke and watch a little sports. Hey maybe a smoking sports bar lol. Problem is if you have a themed lounge where you can smoke in the non smokers would want to use it and then they will complain, and they are the only ones that complain. You could have 99 non smoking lounges on the ship and only one smoking lounge and the non smokers will try to shut it down.

RCCL is considered a non-smoking ships, but recognizes that a minority of people do smoke, so they have a few places that they can smoke. It is for the safety and health of their employees which is why I like RCCL.

(Sorry, I forgot, I'm not suppose to answer)

Oh please it has nothing to do with their employees. It has all to do with the non smokers crying after every cruise because they made a point to find where smokers are smoking and try to get the smokers kicked out. Not because you want to use that area you just don't want smokers to use it.

I've seen many times non smokers walk into a obvious smoking lounge (and unless their blind or just plain stupid) they start with the wrinkled nose then the frantic waving of the hand in front of their face (look like total morons specially the men) why not just stay out you have 99% of the ship to use stay away we don't like you!

Freedom isn't the friendliest smoking ship, or at least it wasn't when we were on her. There were a handful of tables in the VCL (5 or so), a section of the casino (which I referred to as the naughty corner ), the pool bar, cigar club, and the top floor of the night club. I think the biggest shock was the casino, it was the first time that I saw just a section for smokers, compared to the bar, etc. To be honest, as a smoker FR turned me off. :(

Adventure on the other hand.....:)

I'm sorry but I do believe I specifically said for only smokers to reply.

Huh? She did ask for smokers to reply, and it was answered. Then other people posted things - - - so we forgot that it was a smokers thing. So sorry

Unless I missed a trick or the policy is different between UK and US I was on the IOS and I didn't see smoking in the Night Club or Casino!

I would have noticed as my wife is a smoker and regularly joined her fellow polluters on Deck 4 for her fix of nicotine whilst I was in the Night Club or Casino

The smoking policy changes on Indy when she sails out of England. Same with ships sailing out of Australia. Once the ships are back in the states, there are more places to smoke on the ship.

Thank you. Watching smoke threads spin out of control is always entertaining. :D

Yes .... but quite informative.

I always get a balcony .... so I can smoke my stogies out there .... yeah I know .... your not supposed to smoke cigars on the balcony .... so make sure you dispose of the evidence and chuck your butts into the ocean.:rolleyes:

Just an FYI, cigars don't have "butts". :p

Restrictions on smoking have nothing whatsoever to do with Royal giving a frig about our health. They would allow smoking everywhere on board if that is what the majority of their passengers wanted. Its about profits, and as a "for-profit" company that's as it should be. I think they do a great job of trying to accommodate both smokers and non-smokers.

I'm an ex-smoker...so not sure if I'm allowed in this thread or not.

However, I think the reason non-smokers are so obnoxious is because when you don't smoke you really smell the smoke from others a lot better. I was amazed when I quit how nasty bars smell. Never noticed it when I had a cloud of fresh smoke around me.

I'm hyper sensitive to it now. I hate casinos because the smell is so overpowering. So, it's not that we want to take away your pleasures, it's that your pleasures take away ours (and of course expose us to the second hand smoke health risks) so it's a problem without a good solution.

Hopefully there are areas for you to enjoy a nice smoke that I can avoid. I think that's probably what the cruise line tries to do for us.
