Anyone know if other cruise lines still use trays? When did Carnival stop?

There were no trays on Legend in Dec 2011. There have been a few threads reguarding the trays. There are super large plates tho- so that does help. Talk is that a few ships still have the trays but are fazing them out.

I may be wrong but i think the reason they do this is so they can use these elevators to transport luggage up and down. If not it would take forever to clear the ship of diesmbarking passengers and embarking passengers.

I've been on other lines where this wasn't done.

rant/

(IMO) With the luggage all out in the hall by 10 p.m. or so the night before, there's no excuse for the elevators to still be shut down at 7 a.m.

/rant

You are right that the luggage should all be downstairs by that time so that doesnt make sense. Maybe its to control the lines for disembarking? I know that some elevators are also shut down during embarkation. I am pretty sure this is so the porters can get the luggage up to the different decks.

Just FYI -- for people with asthma, even a small amount of cigarette smoke can induce a serious asthma attack.....

And that's why I said unless it results in physical harm....and an asthma attack would be physical harm. My post was aimed at those who think that just because they can smell it they're in serious harm....

Whether or not the trays are a rule or a cutback- it is one of our biggest peeves. DH is literally one handed (amputee) & needs a tray to carry beverage with his plate. I usually end up juggling 2 plates plus a beverage or we have to go back several times to get everything.

The staff in the Lido dining area use trays to pick up after cruisers. They are stacked on their stand. You can get one of those no problem.

The dumbest rule...although I know it is a government rule, not a cruise line rule....is the Passenger Vessel Services Act (which prohibits foreign flagged cruise ships from transporting passengers between U.S. ports without a foreign port stop).

I completely agree with you. I don't smoke nor have I ever been a smoker. But when I read this thread this is the first thing that I thought of.

You do realize this is because if smokers, right? They see someone who appears to be smoking and start smoking too.....that is why the rule was put in place.

Sorry, but guess I would have to say the dumbest rule is allowing smoking on balconies, or anywhere on the ship for that matter. :o

I hate comments like this. I can understand your comment about the balconies, even if I disagree with it. But your comment about no smoking at all on the ship selfish and gives non-smokers a bad name. The cruislines have done a lot to designate limited areas where smoking is allowed and cut out a lot of areas where smoking was previously allowed. Smokers have rights too and pay the same for a cruise as you do. If you are bothered by smoke, stay away from the limited areas where it is allowed.

Before I get attacked let me say this is not a cruise "rule" but seems to always be the case...

I hate the way you almost always have to walk through the casino to get from one area to another (because of the smoke)... I think casinos should be located in an area where people can choose to go to but don't have to walk through if they don't want to.

Now, I smoke sometimes when I am on vacation... and almost always when I'm sitting at a slot machine... So I'm not saying they should be non-smoking by any means... but some ships make it almost impossible to get around without walking directly through the casino (specifically NCL Epic & CCL Magic)...

My daughter has some health problems and can't be around the smoke and would hold her breath trying to get through the pathway in the middle of the casino... heaven forbid she get stuck behind those groups of people who decide to stand right in the middle of the hallway and talk like they are the only ones onboard :-)

Ooops; now you gone and done it! Smoking, discussed to death. I believe that if you want to blacken your lungs you have the right to do just that, but, don't blow your smoke onto my balcony. Plenty of "open air space" for smokers.

Now for my dumbest rule: uh, well, I can't think of any cause I LOVE CRUISING :D

I agree! Nothing like sitting out to enjoy a relaxing time on your balcony and have someone start smoking. You end up feeling like you're the one doing the smoking. Why is it that smokers think it doesn't bother anyone else? Lol!

You dont HAVE to walk through the casino, there are other ways to get to where you're going, and you know it. The fastest path may be through the casino, but if you can't stand smoke for 30 seconds, then find another way.

Try being trapped on a ship with 1000 screaming kids and Disney music playing 24/7 ("It's a small world after all") and you will see why bringing as much alcohol on board as humanly possible is allowed. :D

That was so funny!!!!!:)

Oh my... I am sorry I offended you. I stand corrected. You are right... There are other ways. Sometimes it's just inconvenient to go up or down a level and then down the hall and back up or down to get through. I really thought this was just a light hearted post of things we don't particularly like on a ship. I didn't mean to make you angry. I was only thinking of my daughter who hard a hard time getting around without walking through the casino. She has a chronic lung disease and is afraid of breathing the smoke. My apologies.

I need a towel, the sarcasm dripping from that post got all over me. :D

The distance from point A to point B doesn't change if you travel a floor up or down (and use an elevator so no stairs). That protects the daughter. Logical?

I believe the elevators are closed for security reasons. We have breakfast on board, gather our carry ons and head to the lido deck, while everyone is scrambling around like crazy. Unless we had an early flight, which we never do, we hang around the ship until they make last call. Not only is it easy to find your luggage, it's easy to get a taxi and no traffic.

You may be right, but all the elevators were in service on my last two Celebrity cruises. This just seems to be a Carnival thing. FWIW, if everyone did as you did there would still be "scrambling like crazy", just later in the am.

I apologize I didn't mean to come off angry. I understand where you are coming from. I just joined this forum and the topics I have posted on have gotten rather confrontational, so I guess I have been taking that tone. No need to apologize, I am sorry.

It is my understanding that Disney allows you to bring on as much booze as you want and from what I've read recently HAL does, also.

Not true. On HAL you can bring as much wine, soda or water as you want. They still will not allow hard liquor. But their prices to have liquor delivered to your room is cheaper on HAL. We payed about $28.75 for a fifth of Skyy Vodka.
