We will find out what they do on the Elation in a couple of weeks...

although do be aware that a Cruise Critic member was on the Sensation about a month ago and they did nothing.... it was a 3 day.

He checked and (according to Carnival) the length of cruise is not suppose to have any bearing at all....

I was invited to have "coffee" with the Captain, aboard the beautiful "Paradise". It was just me, and I had a very informative, and entertaining hour with the Captain, and the Chief Purser. I was very surprised that I was the only Diamond Passenger aboard that cruise, and when I received the invitation, I thought that there would be at least six or eight others,,,,but alas, it was just me. :cool:I can't wait to get aboard again, and enjoy a bit more time on the bridge, while underway, with the senior officers.

A passenger that was diamond on the Legend posted a little over a week ago that their "event" was dinner with the captain on formal night.

It seems it is the captains choice so not consistant from ship to ship. I would say be prepared for anything.

Yes, that's what I've heard as well. It's up to the Captain what kind of an "event" he would like to host. That time I spent with the Captain, while underway on the bridge was EXCELLENT IMO. I was free to ask any questions I wanted, and the Captain asked me a lot of things as well. All in all, I can't think of a more fulfilling afternoon!

The event is up to the Captain, including whether on not to do anything. As with any perk, it is subject to change and not guaranteed.

Per the written policy:

“A Special Invitation from the Captain.” Benefit limited to Diamond Member and one guest once per Cruise, subject to Captain’s availability and discretion. No substitution if Benefit is unavailable.

Not yet, but give it time. I'm sure someone will. ;)

Not me! I will be delighted for whatever the "event" holds. Just want to be prepared for dinner if it's elegant night so covering all my bases.

What does one wear to visit the captain on the bridge for coffee or tea?

Maybe you friend is the one I read about. I think she said she got off on the 16th.

I am on the Legend next week. I thought I might need something for the bridge, but after reading the post, decided I might need a more elegent dress for elegent night. Also asked hubby to pick up a couple of new ties, and this time he is taking his sports jacket. We have gotten used to dress shirt and ties and Sunday attire our past few cruises.

My wife and I are Diamond level and on our 5 Aug. '12 sailing on the Splendor we were invited to the bridge. On the last sea day we spent an amazing 25 minutes with Captain Bovo in his command center. It was just the two of us and he was most gracious and informative as he answered questions completely and with good humor. We could have stayed longer but decided not to take any more of his time. It was the high point of our cruise!

A wonderful benefit!

A friend was on Legend recently. They sent me a copy of their Diamond invite.

The Captain invited them to enjoy sail away with him when they left Cozumel.

They were the only Diamonds on board and were quite embarassed by some extra attention given to them.

Ours was as we pulled away from the dock at Key West. I have to say...that was cool.

While we had been on the Bridge several times...it was the first time while we were pulling out of a port.

Loved it...

We did a B2B in August/September on the Dream. The first week we had tea with the captain and senior officers. There were about 17 Diamonds on this cruise. This was nice because we got to talk with senior staff but the experience was exactly the same as the regular sea day tea time. The second week we were on the bridge at sailaway from Costa Maya and had champagne, mimosas, and orange juice as well as little snacks. We still had about 15 Diamonds on this cruise. There were no pictures taken either week except for the couple with the most cruise days at the Past Guest party. Maybe there were no pictures with the captain because there were so many Diamond guests.

there were 3 Diamonds, plus thier respective SO's..so 6 of us. WE dressed dressy casual for the Welcome Aboard presentation, on stage, with pic w/ Capt, and intros. Then we were escorted to the bridge..for Afternoon Tea, with savouries, and sweets, coffee or Tea. Great chat w/ Captain.he told us we could stay to watch the sunset, but I needed to get ready /dressed for late seating.and I got to speak Italian! I have 3 cruzes coming up in Nov, one in Jan, and Legend TA in April, and look forward to all of them with the various Captains. That suddenly realized it was my 68th cruze all total, and I just turned 68 yrs old..LIFE is GOOOOOOD. !

We were with the Powells, and 2 other couples on the bridge sailing away from Key West in early Sept. on the Conquest. There were photos, it was nice.

Then on the Ecstacy last week there were 1 other diamond couple 4 diamonds total. Our timing was good in that the last day of the cruise there was to be a reception in the piano bar to present awards to the 9 crewmen of the month from various departments. The diamonds were invited to this bar 1 hour before the ceremony started for our own private reception.

We had some nice snacks and drinks and conversations with senior officers. The Captain came in about 35 - 40 minutes into our session. We had a very nice conversation with him, so much so that that when another officer tried to pull him away after 20 -25 minutes to meet other crew members or to start the presentations, he said no I'm fine here. So we had another drink and talked for another 20 to 25 minutes. It was a very nice time.

  • 4 weeks later...

I just thought I would tell anyone who is interested what has happened on our 4 cruises since the new program was initiated. Our first diamond event was on the Conquest in early September and is described early in this thread.

We then went on a 5 day Ecstacy cruise in late September. There were 2 diamond couples and the Captain had a cocktail reception in the piano bar for us before a celebration in that lounge acknowledging the 8 or 9 crewpersons of the month from variuos departments. It was supposed to be 45 minutes but we were talking with the Captain and when some crew tried to pull him away after about 45 minues, he said "No I'm good here." So we ordered another drink and talked for 10 or 15 minutes more.

We just returned from "back to back" cruises on the Destiny and then the Liberty. The Destiny had 5 diamond cruisers, ourselves and another couple and we think the 5th was the other couple's adult child. They had a cocktail reception in the piano bar, 4 of us attended. Of course there were free drinks and when I ordered scotch on the rocks, a senior officer I was chatting with offered Johnny Walker Blue, an upper tier scotch. I said my palate was not good enough for blue and the more standard red label would be fine. Waiters also brought individually plated deluxe hors d' oeuvres, very nice. They also took photos on stage at the VIFP party and in the piano bar. They delivered them free to our cabin that evening.

On the Liberty there were 15 diamond cruisers. At he VIFP party all card levels were asked to stand in order. After all were sitting down the CD called the diamond couple with the most days to the stage. They were not present, neither were the couple with the 2nd most days. Couple #3 was there and they took photos of them. The Captain's event was a cocktail reception in the piano bar again (I think I may see a pattern developing here). It was only attended by about 8 of the 15 diamonds. Once again free drinks and waiters with trays of hors d' oeuvres although not as deluxe as on the Destiny.
