philip_g Posted November 7, 2012 #1 Share Posted November 7, 2012 I've spent much of the last month or so reading anything I can here, I haven't planned a lot of things but I'm not much of a planner, so I might be disappointed or it might all work out, who knows. Get there early! Remember Saturday is DAY 1! Get there and enjoy it!!! Don't try to do everything - you will go insane. Try to see the aqua show. That is something different and fun. Check the daily schedule and do what you want to do! And get off quickly next Saturday - that is when I will be getting on! Kathy

Basman Posted November 8, 2012 #6 Share Posted November 8, 2012 Take more money and take less clothes. My wife does great on the first part, but not so well on the second. She has several dresses that are accumulating frequent flyer miles for no apparent reason. Enjoy, Basman
philip_g Posted November 8, 2012 Author #7 Share Posted November 8, 2012 Hah.actually brings up something I hadn't thought of, we prepaid the tips with my time dining, how much cash money do we need for inboard tips and ports etc ?
graf103 Posted November 8, 2012 #8 Share Posted November 8, 2012 Hah.actually brings up something I hadn't thought of, we prepaid the tips with my time dining, how much cash money do we need for inboard tips and ports etc ? I would bring a couple hundred dollars to start, and use port ATMs if necessary, but be prepared to incur some fees for doing so, but I think it's worth not taking crazy amounts of cash. Oh, a side note... If you haven't already informed you credit card company and\or bank to tell them you'll be traveling outside the country. Have a fantastic cruise! cb at sea Posted November 8, 2012 #9 Share Posted November 8, 2012 If you pay the suggested tips (or have prepaid), you're done with tips on the ship. You will want to tip porters, cab drivers and if an excursion guide goes "above and beyond", them also! 10% for cabs is normal. Excursion tips depend on what you feel the tour was worth. Tips are not required, but it's up to you and your enjoyment factor.
kathyemma Posted November 8, 2012 #10 Share Posted November 8, 2012 Yes - dont pack that much!!! We get up in the morning and put on our bathing suits and cover ups for the day. At night we get dressed for dinner. First few times I sailed I had a different outfit for everyday. What a waste!!! The one thing I find I wish I had more of is long pants. The dining rooms and theaters are cold! And if you got sun during the day it feels even colder. So pack an extra pair of pants and a sweater. As for cash - I bring about 500. That will cover tips for cabs before and after cruise and on the islands. It will cover a 20 here and there at the casino. That is pretty much my spending money for general crap on the islands. (I have a 14 year old daughter so a lot of crap is involved.) Whenever we order room service I give the guy a few dollars. Kathy
jray2504 Posted November 8, 2012 #11 Share Posted November 8, 2012 Have a great time. And enjoy each day to it's fullest. I have a long wait till I get to go so post all about your cruise when you get back.:)
Rare JamesEM Posted November 8, 2012 #12 Share Posted November 8, 2012 DW and I were on the Oct 13th sailing of the Oasis, I would suggest making your reservations for the shows you want to see before you board, know where your cabin is, and arrive at the port around noon - no waiting. Also, do NOT bring any adult beverages in water bottles, use another method.

Believe the captain and the CD and the Cruise Compass (daily newsletter) when they tell you what time you must be back onboard the ship in port. They WILL leave without you. philip_g Posted November 8, 2012 Author #16 Share Posted November 8, 2012 I really don't have a lot planned for the shore stops, a few in cozumel but that's really it, didn't find much that interested us. I stressed about every little detail here booking and researching and now I think I've come to realize it just doesn't matter and gave up :D thanks for all the tips, flying out tomorrow, can't wait! It's our first cruise, we've been wanting to try it for a few years but always end up doing something else. I do fear I won't be able to try all the places I'll want to eat on board, maybe I can work in a 4th meal :D I have the my time dining and made reservations for that around reservations for the shows I want to see (skipping hairspray.. booked everything else) I have the $50 dining package and I'm a little bummed oasis doesn't have the brazilian steakhouse as texas de brazil is one of my favorite places to eat but I guess izumi will have to do. in jamaica we're doing the jamaica for a day resort thing, and in haiti just bumming around, I might try to get a cabana but I bet I can't get one. Oh, and I'm terrified I'm going to get sick on or just before the trip.
kathyemma Posted November 8, 2012 #17 Share Posted November 8, 2012 Last time we were on oasis - the last day of the trip my DH found corn dogs on the boardwalk. He almost cried. That is one of his favorites. So if you like corn dogs - they have them! Kathy

Newfie Girl Posted November 8, 2012 #20 Share Posted November 8, 2012 It looks like the Oasis Dining package is $70 pp according to RCL website...I maybe looking in the wrong spot though. $50 pp is an excellent deal if that's correct.

I only paid $50, but it looks like they changed the explanation of the package, now it says I have to go to the solarium bistro the first night, now I'm mad as when I booked it it was chops the first night. I don't want to go to the solarium. and now I can't make reservations until we get on board. Now I'm extremely irritated.
19Ladybird67 Posted November 8, 2012 #22 Share Posted November 8, 2012 I remember reading another post recently about there being changes in the dining package. If you do a search you might find it. I do believe there were others who were disappointed in the changes.
philip_g Posted November 8, 2012 Author #23 Share Posted November 8, 2012 Yep. they did change it very recently (I called) but she said they'd honor the original one, I just have to mention it at check-in on the pier, but they cancelled my reservation. I'm pretty annoyed they'd just pull the rug out from under you on something like this without a heads up to rebook. I figured everything was under control... philip_g Posted November 8, 2012 Author #24 Share Posted November 8, 2012 here's another slight annoyance- I went to print out luggage tags and see Luggage Tags We regret that luggage tag mailers are no longer available because your sailing is within 13 days of today. You may secure your luggage tags from our porters once you arrive at the pier. when I checked 30 or so days out I couldn't request luggage tags, and checked here to see they no longer mail them at all to non-suite-steerage class customers, why tease me now? BDsquared Posted November 8, 2012 #25 Share Posted November 8, 2012 We just got off Nov. 3 and really enjoyed visiting all of the free places to eat. We figured out our favorites and returned frequently!! There is so much to do, it's easy to over schedule yourself! Try not to! Also, if you are planning to eat at a specialty restaurant and haven't made reservations yet, make sure to do that your first day. We waited till day 2 and were put on a very long waiting list for Chops! We did manage to get in, though. Enjoy the trip, enjoy the ship!
