brochure with free upgrades to QG and PG

2 days go we received a brochure offering free upgrades on about a dozen sailings. To my surprise, we decided right then to book, so we are returning to the Baltic on Queen Victoria in June! Having never been upgraded to the grills, we are really looking forward to the experience.

I've had to use frequent flyer miles for First Class, as Business not available, so we are really having a luxury experience top to bottom.

I received that brochure. We haven't done grills yet, but it looks enticing.

Enjoy the anticipation and actual experience!

I believe I received that brochure too but it went straight into recycle. If I remember, wasn't there a huge gap in the P2 to P1 prices?

I have a feeling Cunard may have jacked up the Princess Grill P1 to match the lowest QG category. Making it appear a 'free' upgrade.

I'm not sure, however I think that's one thing I remember.

As a matter of interest, did the brochure which you received come direct from Cunard ?

Looks like it's only been sent to those in the US. The only brochures I've received recently are for P&O and HAL  - Straight in the recycle bin.

Bargain of the year at the moment from Cunard's website is on the QE 29th November returning from the Med to Southampton - Getaway price of £499 for 10 days in a balcony or oceanview cabin. That's just less than £50 a night!

The brochure came directly from Cunard. It is restricted to North American (not just U.S.) residents.

Though I realize prices and offers come and go, this did seem like a reasonable offer, as other sailings on dates not included in this offer show we would pay twice what we are paying to be in Princess. Brittania Club is higher as well on those sailings than what we are paying for Princess Grill.

We just got ours today. Considering I paid $3300 in 2009 & $3950(Q-7 in 2010)I don't find these prices a bargain at all!

When you tell us what you paid, it sounds great for Queens Grills, Though you don't specify number of days and the ports, which makes a big difference.

Analyzing current online costs for a Princess Grill cabin, I see daily rates from $433 to $599 on just 4 upcoming cruises. By upgrading from balcony to Princess, we are looking at $321, after shipboard credits. It sounds good to me, am I missing something?

Sorry. It was an 11 day trip through the Caribbean late Nov.2010. Stops in St Thomas/St Lucia/St Kitts/Barbados/Dominica. It was a Q-6, actually. Price was about 4K after all taxes & such figured in. We checked out a P-1 on the QV on our Jan.2012 trip to the Panama Canal. We had an A-1(wheelchair room)for about $1850(these prices are P/P)we were offered the P-1 for an upcharge of about $1000P/P. We turned it down. Why?? The wheelchair room was about 450sq. ft compared to 330sq.ft for the P-1. If it had been a Q-suite well, we'd have jumped at the chance. We met a new to Cunard couple in Bonair on an excursion. I politely asked what they paid for their P-1. It was $5200P/P. I guess traveling exclusively with Cunard has it's perks. I still feel their TA could have gotten them a better deal. $2900P/P for a P-1 v/s $5200, I say!

hi Keith. Hope Yall are doing well. I really wish we could all count on just making up your mind which ship/itinerary you want and then being confident that all in similar categories are paying the same. Waaaayy to simple. The cruise industry has certainly jumped on the airline way of pricing in that most everyone has a different priced ticket. We were on the QV with you at very discounted late minute pricing. I have come to the opinion that it is foolish to book way ahead. There are so many ships/itineraries available these days that there will always be deals closer to sail dates. We have learned with the airlines to book 30-60 days out. Usually works to our advantage but now and then, you miss what you want. Having said all that, we booked SeaDream in Costa Rica about a year and a half ahead but SeaDream is very good about matching rates if discounted later. Cunard, maybe not so much.:D

Although Canadians are included in US offers, I have not received this brochure. Could anyone who received it kindly advise if it is necessary to have a discount code in order to get the reduction? Thanks.

We're doing well, Hope things are fine with you two.Haven't been on it, but I hear Seadream will really spoil you! We've reached the conclusion as well about early booking. We cancelled the 2013 Jan. trip on the QE. Richard wants to go to Vegas instead. For all his complaining about me going to the ships casino, here he wants me to go to Vegas?? That couple in Bonair noticed me roll my eyes white when they told me what they paid. They about had a fit when I told them what we paid for our Q-6 on the QM2. I do feel the repeaters get good deals, but I still think their T/A did a lousey job getting them the best fares.

No code was needed. First Cunard rep kept insisting to our TA there was one, but a second person handled reservation and confirmed no code needed.

This brochure, posted in Vancouver, finally arrived just over a week before the deal expires. There was a promotion code, but as was discussed earlier it is not necessary as long as I entered the Cunard World Club membership number. There are two major errors in this brochure. There is a vague reference to upgrades to Pincess suites with the notation to see page 13 for details, but no details appear. If you play around with the on-line booking section (if it happens to be working for a particular voyage) it's apparent that an upgrade to a P1 is available at the fare for Britannia Club. Regarding the upgrade from PG to QG for the QE and QV, the photograph of a Queens suite clearly shows a Princess suite, although the floor plan is for QG.

David,

I'm still waiting for mine, I guess they are very slowing being shipped from west to east!

Excuse my "typo"; that should read P2 not P1. So for the applicable voyages, the Britannia Club fare gets a P2 stateroom and a P1 fare gets a minimum QG. There is a considerable difference between the P2 and P1 fares. For next year, after the world cruises, the P3s and P4s have been re-classified as P2s and the aft P2s on QM2 have been re-classified as P1s.
