Does the West Coast have daylight savings time like us here on the East Coast?

 

It gets dark at 5 in the winter here:(

I believe something like 45 states have daylight savings time. Yes, we do in California, Oregon, and Washington. Arizona and Hawaii don't.

 

Sunset in my area of California is right around 5pm right now, will get as early as about 4:45 the middle of this month.

 

By the way, it is currently Daylight Standard Time. Daylight Savings Time is in the summer.

The time of sunrise and sunset varies as you go up and down the west coast (and don't forget you're also going east/west due to the shape of the continent. San Diego is east of Reno, NV!) You really need to check the calendar for the specific cities you're visiting. Try http://www.sunrisesunset.com.

 

For today, Dec 2 2012, daylight here in San Diego will last 10h 9m. San Francisco will have 9h 44m of natural light, and Seattle will have 8h 42m. In summer, things are reversed, and I often notice while watching baseball on TV that the sun is still shining on the SF Giants' field long after it's full dark here.

Yes, very close to East Coast with early sunsets in the winter months.

This thread reminds me of the old joke "how many c&w singers does it take to change a light bulb". But yes CA, OR, WA, AK and the Province of BC observe DST, however there is a move afoot to abolish it in AK.

Navajo areas of AZ don't observe DST since technically they aren't "Arizona". The only other US state that doesn't go on DST is Hawaii.

CruiserBruce is correct--Arizona doesn't observe DST. (Nevada does and since we have an office in Arizona, it makes it interesting setting up telephone meetings since half the year they are on the same time as us and the other half they aren't.)
