Sun Princess misses a tornado in Auckland today 6 Dec 2012

Breaking news...

As I post we are on the edge of a tremendous storm that swept through Auckland just before lunch today. It is slow moving and very localised. The Air Force Base at Whenuapai has lost staff housing and concrete slabs have fallen killing 3 people. Many factories and large commercial areas have lost rooves.

A second front is coming through now. The motorways are in chaos.

All we have had up here in Orewa , is a bit of heavy rain so far.

Sun Princess is in Auckland today so I trust all their passengers are safe.

Very strange weather ..what we need is some wind to blow it away.....yet when the tornado struck it was very sudden and fierce. Took everyone by surprise. Seems the deaths were related to a constructoin site where a truck was delivering precast concrete slabs for a new school.

Have been corresponding with a friend on the Sun via text and they advised a few hours ago that weather was fairly windy with heavy rain and were heading back to the ship just in case anything worsened.
