We are on the Legend and the fog was so thick this morning that you could hardly see your hand in front of your face. We were stopped when we woke up at 6am about 80 miles from port.

We have just been told that we will be in port in an hour. Good cruise but had to rebook air and now have to find a place to stay tonite.

Thanks to those of you that are still on the ship and are posting what is happening. That is so helpful to those that are waiting. At least they can find out if they check cruise critic. Justifies me paying so much for having this life saver of a phone I have. I remember the day when we had party lines and cell phones weren't invented yet

...San Diego Union Tribune Sunday Nov. 26' date=' 2012 CELL PHONES BECOMING A BODY APPENDAGE

fyi...sometimes I do know what I am talking about

Oh, and in 55 years of flying I have never had an airline call or email me the day of my departure to let me know my plane would be late. Maybe the day before to let me know the flight was totally cancelled and to rebook me...but that is another subject, entirely.[/quote']

I cruised on the Liberty in September. Myself and my daughter was on one reservation, three of our friends were on another reservation, and our other friends onboard were on another. All on Delta. On the day of debarkation, which was also the day we flew home, our flight was delayed due to mechanical problems. there was also another couple that we met onboard that was on our flight. the flight time changed several times, even moving back up the last time.. and every time the change happened, all of us received voice mails on our phones telling us of the delays and time changes. Not sure if this happens with all airlines... but it DOES happen on Delta...

We are zone 7 and still onboard. It seems to be taking a while to get all the self assist people off. I am wondering if others are trying to get off even though they are not self assist.

It is beautiful up here on the Serinity Deck though :)

Southwest sends text messages about information. I've got messages about a gate change or delay. Have had a message text message sent to me for mechanical issues too.

Carnival does have the alerts feature that you elect to receive text messages when you set up your "Fun Pass" too, doubtful this feature would be used once your already on the ship.

Hey all, thanks for chiming in and keeping those of us stuck on land up to date. I've been watching this board all day for updates since Carnival dropped the ball on that one.

How is it looking now? For anyone currently at the port waiting to embark, are the lines horrible? I'm trying to convince my family to wait until the crowd thins out, was thinking around 9 or so.

Can't wait to get on this darn boat and start my vacation!

If you sign up for flight alerts you will recieve messages on your phone all the way up to boarding.

Carnival also has this but I have never used it. Our travel agent is a good friend of ours and we always cruise with him and his wife. He keeps us posted on whats going on.

US Airways alerts you as well if you sign up for their message services for you flights. I even get gate change emails, reminders that everything is on time and reminders to check in 24 hours in advance.

The crew on board must be getting cranky too. They are running at least 12 hours behind their normal routine, yet must get ready for a new ship full of people.

I do have sympathy for you, it must be quite a letdown with the waiting. I'm sure you'll hear various stories about the delay.

To the people waiting in line at the port: is anyone willing to send me a text when they start actually letting passengers on the boat? I live 30 min away and plan to just call a cab at that time, so it would reaalllly help to have an accurate embarkation time.

If you're willing just send me a PM please and I'll send my phone number. Thanks!!

Just curious...does an Airline call you when your flight is delayed or your equipment (airplane) hasn't flown in' date=' do trains alert you if they will be late arriving or departing, does a hotel call you to tell you that they are overbooked and will be moving you when you check in...I don't think so. [/quote']

Yes - Yes - and Yes

Carnival . . . it is what it is.

Boy, I was away all day and look what happened.

So sorry for all those waiting to get on the ship.....i hope it all works out once you get onboard and underway.....make the best of what you have. This was a WEATHER delay and no one could do anything about it, don't let it ruin your trip.

I learned two things:

.....fly Southwest, because they appparently helped everyone reboook & change fights with no fees....I hope it was that easy for everyone flying today.

....and boook cruise insurance, we never have, but after today, we probably will in future.

we had a limo reserved for our trip back to Fort Myers...our driver waited all day for us at an extra cost of $325.00....was so nice to not have to drive home after all this.

The cruiseline did a good job with us today...pools, shops, casino were not open. They fed us well and were in amazingly good moods. I feel bad for the LOOOOONG day they have today.

we had hardly any internet access today....I stopped trying. Phone barely worked either except for those who had 4G.

We finally got off the ship around 7:30 tonight. Will post more tomorow about what the day and cruise were like. Our shuttle driver did tell us that all cruise ships were warned of the impending fog and told to pick up speed to make it to the bridge and port. Apparently the other lines did this , but Carnival opted to slow down. I was awake around 1:30 am Sunday and we only going 8 knots.

Well its 4 am and we are finally underway . Did the safety lifeboat muster at 11-12 pm ish. Held my sound asleep 3 year old who had crashed moments after we hit our cabin.

So far the crew has been great about this and I know weather is one of those things but right now my dw is talking stuff like " last carnival for me"

So far I am made of sterner stuff and willing to see what the week brings. But rcl or other may get the next cruise price notwithstanding.

If I were a newbie cruiser I would not be terribly impressed so far with this experience.
