Middle "hump" and "first-from-the-hump" angle balconies - preferably Deck 8 and higher.

The options are very limited on these ships.

Or... above lifeboats but not close - decks 9 and 10. Deck 11 is close to overhang.

Finally, the type of information I look for when booking a cruise. Thank You. Quick question, we are debating between 2161 AQ suite and 1405 S1 suite on a Mediterranean Reflection Cruise. Both rooms have issues-possible noise above/smoke for 2161 and possible soot/lack of of privacy/obstructions for 1405. Any advice would help. Thanks.

As you might remember from this thread, the cleaning spyder (an unpleasant addition to some aft suites) has moved one deck up on the Reflection.

It belongs to 1665 on the Reflection.

ipa42u.jpg

2161 is on the hump:

nqbhwn.jpg

The area above 2161 is the road to the buffet.

The deck above is slightly thicker (the pool area) than under the buffet. So it's a sort of more protection.

2161 is a shorter walk to everything.

It depends... If you like aft views and have no concerns of privacy....

You'll see all sides and will be exposed to all sides.

On the Med cruise the aft bar may be more "funny" after hours.

Are you interested in "perks"?

This is a really tough choice.

I would book the cheapest one.

THANKS! Actually, that is critical information for us. The price was about dead even and the AQ perks do not sway us either way. Pictures with cabin numbers are fantastic. We will choose 2161 based on this.

Got cabin reserved (ready for booking on Thursday, ffords may 2nd 2014) its 1128 concierge class on Eclipse. Please say its a good one with low noise and any photos would be great, Ive searched the thread and not found our number.

Great thread and the amount of work that has gone into it is beyond the call. Well done and thanks

Hi Cruisetrail

WOW! This thread is amazing. Thank you so much. I wish I had seen it before booking my trip on Silhouette in November 2013.

I saw that someone else asked about the "poor people" cabins :D, I was wondering if you could give me an outside location shot for ocean view cabin 3133 or something close, if you have it?

I am quite concerned that we may be near a tender boat that will be launched above us at the tender ports at the crack of dawn.

It was not my choice of cabin, but unfortunately everything I tried to get was gone so my choice was 3159 (right near Atrium entrance) or 3133. I tried very hard to keep away from the night club/casino areas that are above us on deck 4 or entrances to elevators etc. I am aware that our cabin is connecting with 3135 (I tried to get that cabin too but it was already booked so we will have neighbours). I have seen the connecting door configuration you posted so I am not too worried about that.

Look forward to hearing from you soon, if you can help. I am new to Celebrity and new to Cruise critic too :D.

Thanks.

Downunder Girl,

When I booked our 23rd March Eclipse cruise, I had to take a 2B cabin. However mid Jan ( about9 weeks prior to sailing) I rang Celebrity, as I saws 2A cabin available, at a reduced price.

First I was told 'those are for new bookings only,' but when I said none were available when I booked, the agent said she could do better, as a 1A was available- I suspect someone had cancelled.

I also had a substantial refund, as the prices had come down.

So there is hope for you yet, just keep your eye on the prices.

1605 has one of the most popular "first-from-the-hump" extra deep balconies.

However, it's under public deck (potential noise):

We had 1608 (next door, I think) on Solstice back in January 2011, and didn't have any problems with the noise from above (and I am a light sleeper). I was more disturbed with people occasionally talking too loud in the corridor or slamming doors (always a problem on cruises). We loved that cabin and had a great cruise! We really enjoyed our balcony and I believe yours is even larger. We also thoroughly enjoyed Blu. We had the Premium beverage package, and the sommeliers went out of their way to help us pair wines with our dinner selections.

Hi Cruisetrail. I have been following this thread for 2 days and I still haven't reached the end ! I am blown away by the huge effort you have put into answering all the questions and also supplying details relating to cabins, facilities, etc. You are the CELEBRITY GURU.... We will be going on our first Celebrity Solstice cruise Sydney-Auckland NZ on Novembe 4, 2013. Our cabin is 7129 which is a portside balcony. Any comments about this one. Looks o.k. to me at this time. I know it is very close to the bow but I am not put off by rocky ships.

Once again, many, many thanks for all your effort. It is almost a full-time job for you.

Much thanks for creating this thread. I've learned more than I could ever retain! For an upcoming Reflection cruise I am trying to decide between aft balcony 7366 (4 cabins in from the left) or hump cabin 8160. I've seen your photo for 8160 and it looks very nice. Is 7366 the large aft balcony? In the photos for the other S class ships 4th from the left is considerably larger, not sure on the Reflection and didn't see aft photos for Reflection in the thread. All these decisions....

No noise should be expected.

Location is not great but not bad for this ship.

I would be very grateful for your thoughts on 9730 on Eclipse. Many thanks for all your efforts to help us all.

Need more help than I thought. 9370 not 9730.

9370 on the Solstice (same on the Eclipse)

An angled balcony is a bit larger than standard (+)

Somewhat limited views aft (-)

Well above the obstacles below (+)

Far from elevators (-)

Cruisetrail,

First of all, kudos for such a detailed photo album of the S-class balconies. I was looking for information about various 'bump' balconies for our honeymoon, but when I couldn't find anything to my liking, I decided to start my own (http://www.cabincrawl.com).

But you're review takes the cake. Hats off! Speaking of hats, I had to laugh when I thought to myself, "Wow, all those people are wearing the same hat."

In humble submission to your superior photography,

Johnny!

Thank you!

Happy cruising! :)

"Poor people" can be very wise.

"Wealthy people" often make poor choices...:)

3133 on the Silhouette seems to be under the tip of the bow of the forward tender:

A closer look at 3132 on the other side (starboard):

21bo6t.jpg

My opinion: you should not worry about tenders moving down.

It's not a big deal and may be interesting.

It may not happen at all.

They may use port tenders or other tenders (not that one above your cabin).

I don't like window cabins and never book them.

They are located too low for me.

I would book a balcony cabin or (to save money) an inside cabin.

There are many inside cabins - different locations, different decks...

Enjoy your cruise!

Ok, let's take a look at the Reflection...

Yes, 7366 is a larger balcony - on all S-Class ships.

Cruisetrail...great photos and info. I know deck plans are handy, but you showing the SR via the photos are fantastic, and extremely helpful.

And I agree with your asssessement of SR 3133. I had an oceanview SR and watched a tender be lowered right by the window....neat. But I also agree that I'd either go Inside or Balcony. The window always just wetted my appetite for a balcony, and so many times since ethere are a limited number of Oceanview SR, many times a balcony is not that much more expensive....but of course, that is me helping someone else spend their money!

But whereever or whatever the SR, it is aboard a cruise ship and just cant beat that.

Hi Cruisetrail

That is so awesome :). Thank you so much for the photos of my location.

To be honest, we were booking an inside cabin but when I found the 123GO deal (well the Australian version which was Drinks package and OBC of $300 for Europe cruises), I decided it was well worth the extra spend for having a window view with all those inclusions for 13 nights in the Adriatic. You could not book the 123GO unless you booked at least an Ocean View cabin. Then I came across the issue of all the cabins I actually wanted in the 8 OV category price range were gone.

I like to be relatively low down and mid ship to assist with sea sickness. Looks like I messed up the mid ship part as that cabin looks pretty far forward...ah well. I might keep trying to get it moved back a bit, prior to departure (if others upgrade) :D ! I really wanted 3143 or 3145.

We are planning 10 days in Rome and Paris after we disembark so OV cabin is a budget decision...so excited for this trip :)

Thanks for your helpful advice. Unfortunately I have to stay in the Ocean View category for budgetary reasons. I also had to pay IN FULL when I booked as my Australian TA matched a deal I saw on Cruise Advice (USA travel agent) so I saved around $600 on what they wanted to charge me here but to get the deal they demanded full payment.

So for those reasons, I doubt very much I would be able to keep my savings if I tried to upgrade later on. In Australia we get ripped off blind on all the cruise prices. An average cruise in an average cabin for say 8-10 nights can cost around $2000+ per person. Its the price we pay for living so far away with not enough competition like the USA has. Currently my cruise on Celebrity Aust website is pricing out at $3,730 AUD for 2 for a deck 6 balcony. The better located standard balcony cabins go up to $4,200.

I will try to move my existing cabin a bit further back in the same area but currently everything away from the deck 4 night club is already booked.
