Kevin,

Thanks for the updates. Live updates always make the anticipation of an upcoming cruise tolerable. Never knew what cruises were until three years ago and have now become an addict. Noticed that you are scheduled for the Equinox in April. Look forward to meeting you then.

Here's an update.

We are at the halfway point, and all is good. Today is a sea day, and the sun is out and the pool is crowded.

Something that is new, or at least I've never seen it ( this is my first carribean cruise ). They broke from the standard oceanview buffet menu this afternoon. It was a carribean themed lunch. They had everything from fish escabeche , oxtail, curried conch to goat. I kid you not, stewed goat.

The carribean metal drum band was playing inside, and they had a large fresh fruit station. Two chefs, were cutting fresh whole fruit on a big table. Watermelon, guava and papaya.

They have a sail away each day, sometimes on the helicopter pad, Tsometimes on the lawn with wine and cheese. The sail always are usually around 5-5:30, an hour before sunset.

Yesterday on Barbados we rented a car ( 5 of us ), and spent the first part of the day at a nearby beach. We rented umbrellas and lounge chairs for $15. We left at lunchtime and drove up the coast to the posh St James area. We had a nice lunch and drove back to the ship

The day before was St Lucia we went on a day trip by boat to a small cove for snorkeling and BBQ. ( Spencer's tours ).

Well, there was an attractive couple snorkeling with us, they were doing snuba. Afterwards they and their two kids hung out and played in the waves. Someone whispered over to us " you know who that is right? ". Then I looked closer...it was Gwyneth Paltrow, her husband Chris Martin ( Coldplay ) and their two kids .

We were on the cruise just prior to yours (wish we were still on it!). We were only invited once to the helipad and I think it was opened up to concierge class cabins (which we were) and probably suites (probably more than once for those lucky buggers!). Are you in a suite?

I thought the Caribbean theme was great too

More observations

My wife's Kobo Vox crashed again and she lost all her books for this trip. It's the second vacation in a row this has happened. Android sucks, Mac is on the shopping list

The ice cream station is great and free as are the soft yogurt areas

There aren't as many tables to eat at the Mast Grill and Aqua Spa as there are on even the Century with far fewer passengers. Seems odd

The crowd is far more diverse than most cruises I'be been on. Young too for 14 days. About 1/3 American and the rest Canadian, Brit, Europonees :-), and the even let some Aussies on board :-) :-)

Our cabin guys are the best we've had and in fact ALL the crew are 110% I mean it!

This is the only ship I've been on ever where deck 14 Mast Bar starboard is smoking.

The Elite happy hour has been great and we have met many new friends.

The weather is here and here's wishing you are all beautiful

Ps Our first free Laundry came back in perfect shape and the next day

Lets see how my tie does :-)

:D Funny.

Sorry if this has already been stated, but who is the Cruise Director?

We are on the March 23rd sailing and I know that we have had Grenada 'deleted' due to too many ships in port. We have Curaco instead, which suits us, as we have never been there.

Hi Jackie,

The Cruise Director is supposed to be Sue Denning on our cruise on March 23rd. Hope you're both having a good time on holiday. See you in March

I read the recent negative critiques of the Eclipse. I am in no way taking issue with any previous posters criticisms of the Eclipse, That being said....

This is the best of all the Celebrity ships I've been on to date. The decor is stunning.

This is the first Celebrity ship that i have been on that offers lunch in the specialty restaurants..both Tuscan Grill and Murano. The menu is similar but different.

The Internet is the fastest that I've experienced so far on a Celebrity cruise. It's not high speed, but higher speed. The new system is way better.

If anyone has questions, I'll be here for the next 14 days!

Thank you for your review so far, Kevin.

How is the entertainment?

How are the activities? Can you list some? Thanks

Kevin, was great talking with you at Cellers tonight

Made it an early night, never let anyone say Celebrity goes cheap on their happy hour pours! :-)

Curaçao was nice but man did it rain! Dry season? Nobody told Mother Nature, :-)

The new cruise ship dock outside of the Harbour was a surprise (haven't been here since 2006) but I wonder if the Eclipse could. fit under the bridge anyway?

I find that this crowd seems to Select Dine later than other cruise we've been on. Maybe the large number of Europeans ?

This has been a great thread. We're on the March 23rd sailing. If I get an Internet package, I will partake in a "Live" thread after our roll call thread. I also heard that our CD was going to be Sue Denning, but I wanted to keep quiet in case there would be multiple confirmations.

Request #1: I would really appreciate someone uploading a sea day Celebrity Today daily.

Request #2: Could someone on board strap a webcam to their head and walk around? (o.k. I'm kidding).

I'm on the 4/6/13 sailing after yours. I would love to chat with you when you are onboard. I'll look for your thread. Will you be posting it under the main Celebrity thread, or just add it on to your roll call thread?

Love the idea of the local foods in the buffet area hopefully they will do this on our April cruise also. Hi, Shirley! See you onboard! This is our first Caribbean Cruise, we usually cruise Sept/Oct and there usually is at least one day in the buffet where they have "October fest" type of food: brats, saurkraut, german potato salad, etc. Oh and the waitstaff is usually dressed in "german attire" (just during lunch, NOT dinner, LOL!) Always really fun!

Thanks for all the info on the Eclipse. This is our first time on the "S" class ships and we are very excited!

Shirley,

That makes me think that I can pay it forward and post onto your roll call. That might benefit the largest audience. Keep in mind that I'll be on my honeymoon, so the Internet Cafe is not somewhere I'm likely to be hanging out.

I'm sure posting on Cruise Critic will not be the top thing on your mind!:D However, if you do post, I'm sure it's fine to post on our roll call thread. It's called "April 6, 2013 14 Night Exotic Caribbean on Eclipse".

I'm sure everyone would be excited to read posts from someone onboard (like we are here).

I'm in agreement with you Melody, it's always nice to have a little local flare. This will only be our second time on an S class ship, so we are looking forward to exploring it.

Kevin: I will be boarding for the 1/26 cruise. How about some food porn, specifically some of those great desserts on board???

Haha. I don't eat a lot of desserts, so I'm not the best person to comment. I like the " no sugar added " desserts on Celebrity. I am not diabetic though.

I did get a dessert last night n Murano. A chocolate mouse, with a a butter pecan crisp, paired with salty Carmel ice cream..terrific.

The food overall has been good. Tonight I had roasted chicken with pan gravy, ( ask for extra gravy ).

I'm not a fan of the fish stock based soups. They are all salty and lack depth. The lobster bisque needs brandy.

The other soups are great.

Last night I had the privilege of meeting " A Sixth " ( Don) and his wife for the first time. I have always been a fan of his posts on CC . It's wonderful to finally meet those people in person that we only know through the website.

One other observation, the music IS NOT loud at the martini bar, or anywhere else on the Eclipse.

I agree with Don, this is a very diverse and younger group overall. People are really getting dressed up on formal nights...I love it.

That is great news! We love the Martini Bar for a pre-dinner drink (okay, after dinner as well ;) ) but on the Silhouette last year we sadly avoided it because the music was so loud. So many people complained but they wouldn't budge. It was my only complaint on the Questionnaire because I think Celebrity does an awesome job. I'm glad they listened!

Thank you for the updates!

I agree! It's one of my favorite things about cruising ~ meeting those we've only met online, but feel like they are old friends.
