ChevyCruiser Posted January 8, 2013 #1 Share Posted January 8, 2013 One of my pet peeves with Princess is the too-loud volume for MUTS, especially in the daytime when it's very annoying while trying to relax around the pool or enjoy a snack. If one searches threads for MUTS, it seeems to be a common complaint. I wonder how many other people feel the same way and if you do, do you complain about it while on the ship?
itravelalot Posted January 8, 2013 #2 Share Posted January 8, 2013 I loved it on the Island Princess 2 weeks ago. I didn't find it too loud and I really enjoyed watching Snow White and The Huntsman while swimming in the pool.
shoreham01 Posted January 8, 2013 #3 Share Posted January 8, 2013 We have not sailed with Princess for a couple of years, mainly because we could not stand the intrusion of MUTS. We never say never, but as it stands we have found Celebrity to be a better product although they have crazy noisy areas too.
Rare geoherb Posted January 8, 2013 #4 Share Posted January 8, 2013 There are quiet pools if you do not enjoy MUTS. I've never watched a complete feature on it, usually just catching part of a football game or concert for a few minutes.

shofer Posted January 8, 2013 #6 Share Posted January 8, 2013 I am not a fan of MUTS during the day. I find it intrusive and much too loud. Prefer the band for an hour or so but give me peace and quiet. We are booked on the Island for Alaska in May and figure it will be too cold to sit by the pool so doubt that MUTS will be an issue at that time. stevea20 Posted January 8, 2013 #7 Share Posted January 8, 2013 I was on the Island Princess at the beginning of Nov and had the opposite complaint. They were showing "The Amazing Spider Man", which I hadn't seen, and I could barely hear anything. Very disappointing.

While I don't spend time around the pool whenever I have a balcony we do enjoy quiet & peaceful time there. While underway with wind blowing I rarely hear MUTS however when in port the noise from MUTS is very noticeable. We enjoy a balcony & even on Caribe deck were unable to "escape completely" having to listen to MUTS. I informed them of the noise but nothing ever changed...maybe it's time to do like the name says...Movies Under The "STARS" or to at the very least to lower the volume. MattOsprey Posted January 8, 2013 #9 Share Posted January 8, 2013 We agree, It is a nightmare having to listen to it during the day. That's the time I like to read my kindle. I wish they would only do it at night. Just my opinion. Matthew

I complained once, we were on the ship with our adult children and looking forward to watching a movie in the evening; the sound was so loud it was actually painful, so I requested the sound be lowered a little bit - nothing happened, we had to leave the area. We never say never, but as it stands we have found Celebrity to be a better product although they have crazy noisy areas too. Hmmmm.... although we too don't like the noise of MUTS it would never be a deal breaker regarding cruising on Princess. There are other pool areas for peace and quiet like the aft pool or the sanctuary pool. When we were on Celebrity, we went to the theatre once, the noise was deafening and we never went back..... along with many others. So even though we usually enjoy all the shows in the theatre, on Celebrity it was a no go area. Still we would cruise on Celebrity again if the opportunity arose again.... we just would be prepared to not go to any shows if the same happened again. flamomo Posted January 9, 2013 #13 Share Posted January 9, 2013 I found it excessively loud on the Ruby in October. I often sat at the farthest forward end of the OTHER (Neptune's) pool, and the audio from MUTS, which is at the midship end of the Calypso pool, was audible. That's even considering that there is a wall between the two pool areas!! Just walking through to get to the the Horizon Court in the daytime, the audio was overly loud. I cannot even imagine sitting by the pool where MUTS is to watch a film when the sound makes my ears hurt!!! The only movies I watched were the ones in the Princess theater. sackman Posted January 9, 2013 #14 Share Posted January 9, 2013 These are enormous ships. Plenty of quiet places to go if you don't like the volume of the MUTS. I don't go into the casino. It's smoky and noisy. I don't complain about it. I just avoid it.

It's smoky and noisy. I don't complain about it. I just avoid it. While that's true to a certain degree it's nearly impossible to enjoy the open decks without hearing MUTS & it's also sometimes heard on our balconies. Recently on the Crown they had lower volume tranquil music with peaceful scenes which to me is what should be shown more often during the daytime instead of blaring rock concerts & Movies Under The SUN instead of the STARS.

bdjam Posted January 9, 2013 #17 Share Posted January 9, 2013 There are quiet pools if you do not enjoy MUTS. Depending on how loud they have it cranked up, the sound can bleed to the other pool areas and also to Sanctuary area...I had a nice afternoon in Sanctuary ruined by sound bleed on Star Princess. You may poo-poo it when it's not your ears that are being jangled or your P&Q being disturbed by the excessively loud volume!!! pablo222 Posted January 10, 2013 #19 Share Posted January 10, 2013 Obviously this is not being complained about by just one person or just on this particular thread. If you read these boards, it is very, very hard to find any aspect of princess that doesn't have a list of vocal detractors.

dcruisers Posted January 10, 2013 #21 Share Posted January 10, 2013 Movies Under The Sun no way. under the Stars yes, its to noisy we will never travel Princess again you asked my opinon here it is Aussie I agree. In fact, several months ago I started a thread saying I was not a fan. Why must they play that during the day? For those that think we should be dictated to where we lounge because of annoying and distracting noise is unrealistic. Why shouldn't I be able to sit outside and relax where I CHOOSE without such loud noise. And you can't even see it very well in the sun. Plus you can hear the noise in various places on the ship.....whether you want to or not....like on your balcony!! Princess should stick to the name Movies UNDER THE STARS not sun. Shake Posted January 10, 2013 #22 Share Posted January 10, 2013 It appears the complainers don't get out a lot to the movies, sporting events, shows or concerts where the volume is much louder than Movies Under The Stars. There are other places on the boat where you can literally hear a pin drop and there are many other cruise lines to choose. Let me recommend Holland America or Celebrity where quiet, solitude and early bedtimes abound.:cool:
Astro Flyer Posted January 10, 2013 #23 Share Posted January 10, 2013 Let me recommend Holland America or Celebrity where quiet, solitude and early bedtimes abound.:cool: I don't agree that a change to another cruise line is the answer to having MUTS volume too loud. It's nearly impossible to be on open decks & to not hear MUTS & when it can be heard 5 decks below on a balcony it's much too loud. While it's not a deal breaker for me I don't see anything wrong with voicing our opinions to Princess without having to change cruise lines. So I'll continue to sail with Princess & to not follow your suggestion to jump 'ship' to another cruise line. What does "early bedtimes" have to do with loud volume from MUTS under the "sun"? Dissatisfaction with the noise level is not age-related & it can affect anybody seeking relaxation while on a cruise.

So SHAKE thinks those of us -and there are many-need to give up lounging outside in the sun because we can't tolerate the noise pollution. Her/his suggestion is to go inside and find a cubby hole to get away from the noise. WOW...how open minded. And yes, I frequent movies, concerts and Broadway plays......and chose to go and be entertained. However, loud movies etc during the DAY by a pool on a cruise ship is ridiculous....and then to be told by other insenstivie passengers to basically "suck it up" or find another cruise line shows the mentality of "my way or the highway". I hate MUTS (during the day)! I wouldn't mind it if it was true to its name - Movies Under The Stars. I always figured the cacophonous racket created by MUTS was a ploy to drive pax to pay extra for the Sanctuary. Hmmmm...
