International Drivers License - Greek Islands

Do you need a special license to rent cars on the Greek Islands? Thanks in advance!

Well, you should check with your rental company.

The one we are booked with in Greece demands an international permit. It's cheap, it lasts a year, and the only hassles are getting your picture taken (again), and going and getting the thing. Here in Canada I am getting mine from the CAA, so I presume that AAA offices do it too.

This another one of those situations where you could be penny wise and pound foolish. The International Drivers Permit costs about $10 plus a buck or two for the picture. AAA is a great place to get it done. You may not need it, but there is a very, very good chance that if you do not have it you may find yourself standing at a counter wondering "What the hell do we do now"

Have never needed one in Greece, or most other countries. This being said, I recommend them for those renting in Italy. You don't neen it to rent in Italy, but if you are stopped by the Police they may (or may not) take you into the station if they are not in a good mood.
