Majesty of the Seas 01/11/13 First review with photos!

Recommended Posts

Dinner that evening was casual. I had the Caprese Salad, Chicken Marsala and the Dessert Sampler, which had a flourless chocolate cake, a vanilla cheesecake and elderberry mouse with strawberry jelly. I barely remember what my friends had. I believe one had the Tiger Shrimp and she liked it very much. Aries, our waiter, brought a bread pudding for us to try and that was delicious. This was my least favorite dinner. I did not find much I wanted to try from the menu and the food lacked the wow factor. I really felt food opinion is very subjective when I passed my dessert plate to one of my friends, because I did not like it, and she loved the chocolate flourless cake. Figures :p

After dinner we went to the last show, Boogie Wonderland. It was a lot of fun. This evening was the Golden Globe Awards and they were on the room tv and my friends wanted to watch the show, so we did not go out that night. Yes, we missed Quest. I was a bit disappointed they did not want to go. That night we finished packing and had our suitcases out before midnight.

I had forgotten to mention that we had breakfast at the dining room on Sunday, before heading to Nassau. The food selection is similar than the Windjammer. However, you can order a la carte and the service is fairly fast. I must point out, coffee in the dining room is MUCH better than in the Windjammer. Something to remember, you should arrive together to the dining room for breakfast, especially on disembarkation date, because they will not sit you until your whole party is there.

Our last day went very smooth. We had breakfast in the dining room, which was tasty and served promptly, and proceeded to the Chorus Line Theater to wait for our group to be called. All happened very fast, and we were headed for our car by 8:45.

In all it was a wonderful quick cruise. Service in Majesty is excellent. As I said before, food was better than in Freedom. And having a port day each day made it for a fun time. We did not use the pool except during the walk around during the midnight buffet. The one thing I did not enjoy was that to get to the Chorus Line Theater you had to walk through the Casino or the Schooner Bar, and both apparently were smoking places. I felt it was a very smoky ship.

I am headed out on Majesty tomorrow morning. Will post on that other cruise on my return.

It's been a week since we sailed Majesty for the second time. It was a completely different experience this time as it rained as we sailed out of Miami, it rained while in Coco Cay and it was COLD, at least for what I had expected to be the temperature at this time of year, and specially since January had been so nice.

We flew in from San Juan, arriving in Miami about 10:15 am. 3 of us had carry-on lugagge. My SIL had to check her bag, so we had to walk to baggage claim to get her bag. I asked the RCI representative the cost to use their transfer from the airport, $16.80 per person, and decided to do a taxi, as we had already researched taxi would be $24 for DH and I, probably same for SIL and BIL. We also wanted to stop to get wine at Publix before boarding. Ended up paying $45 for the 4 of us, including tip.

Arrived at Port of Miami about 11:30. Dropped our bags with porters, (got our luggage tags at that time, no problem) and walked into the buiding. This was our first time Platinum so we had to use Priority Boarding for Platinum and Above, of course. As it happened, there were barely no lines. SIL and BIL walked into the Gold Priority line and were in the counter abour 10 seconds before us. By the time we were finished, at 12:00 pm there were maybe 8 people on line. There were a lot of young (read Seniors in High School) groups, probably because of the long weekend. We got in line and walked on board. Again, I had 2 bottles of wine in my carry on, there were no questions asked.

DH signed up for the 3 wine bottle package as I had done previously on the cruise with my friends.

Ok, I am hoping I can finish this review today, as I have kept you waiting a long time.

We got our wine package and headed to the Compass Deli for lunch. I was sooo looking forward to the crepes for lunch. When we got to the Compass Deli I notice the crepe menus were not on the tables. Come to find out they do not serve crepes on embarcation day . So we got a table on the second floor on the back of the Deli and went to get lunch at the Windjammer, as the choices at the Deli were pretty slim.

Lunch at the Windjammer was good. Food was fresh. It was the first time I found the honey stung chicken good, not dry, and the desserts were better than on other ships. Maybe the whole menu change has made a difference in the food across the board. My SIL mentioned a garbanzo salad that was really good and there was a tomato and cucumber salad that was excelent too. Sorry, I cannot find any pictures of our lunch.

After lunch we headed to our rooms. DH and I had 9030 and SIL/BIL had 9028. Perfect location again, and the view from the window was not that obstructed either. I did mention to DH that last time my girlfriend had kept her open suitcase on the loveseat, so it was as if we did not have a place to seat. This time we unpacked and got our suitcases under the bed, no problem. Here are some pictures of the room.

As you can see, there is a structure outside our window but it did not affect in a major way our view. I barely made it to my SIL room so I do not have pictures of that room.

After unpacking we headed to the Gym to check the equipment, as BIL wanted to make sure he would be able to exercise during the cruise. We all signed up for the yoga class at Coco Cay. I asked the instructor what was the plan in case of rain, and he said the class would run under the rain. He also added it was the first rain they had in 4 weeks. Just our luck.

We then walked into the Viking Crown lounge and then proceeded to the muster drill. Muster was your basic drill, we stood in line and waited for all to get there. Nothing major. It was gray outside.

ry%3D480

Once muster was over we had to decide where to see the sailaway. I suggested the Crown Lounge, as there was no way we were going to stand outside to watch it. We got there soon enough, found a spot by the window and ordered our mojitos. Rain or no rain, we were ready for our cruise. :D

ry%3D480

Just like last time, Carnival moved ahead of us, headed for the turn around. As I was waiting for Carnival to pass us again, I realized we were moving, we were on our way!

ry%3D480

ry%3D480

I definitely did not take as many pictures as last time. The servers at the Crown Lounge were very attentive, offering a drink as soon as we finished the last one. The mojito I had here was not as good as the one I had had at Boleros last time, so I made a note to remember to order another one later.

By the time we left the Crown Lounge it was close to 6:15, so we headed to our cabins to get ready for dinner, as we had first seating.

As we headed down to dinner we noticed the music on the Centrum. Lovely jazz saxophone playing group. I could have sat there to listen and watch.

ry%3D480

We had a lovely table by the window on deck 3. I had been looking forward to the wonderful food for this evening. I had the Eggplant and Kalamata Olive Tartare (again) and the Tomato and Baked Feta Cheese salad. Being the first Friday during lent, I decided not to eat meat (nice catholic girl I am) and ordered the Broiled Filet of Atlantic Salmon. The eggplant appetizer was good, but again, pita bread should not be toasted to a crisp. The feta cheese appetizer was good, but as I do not love feta cheese, once I had eaten all the onions the cheese flavor was to strong to my liking. The salmon dish was excellent. Fresh salmon, wonderful mashed potatoes, yum!

DH had the Pan Seared Sea Scallops and Chorizo

SIL had the French Onion Soup

She thought it was good but lacked enough cheese.

BIL had the Royal Shrimp Cocktail

The rest of our dinner was

ry%3D480

Fish, Seafood and Mash. They all tried it and liked it except that they did not realized the fish was battered.

DH had for dessert:

ry%3D480

the Sugar Free Key Lime Pie. As a diabetic he did not want to try the regular one, which I had tried last time and was delicious. He said it was ok, funny artificial flavor. I had the Williams Pear Chocolate Cream, which my friend had last time and I posted previously, but was not that impressed with it this time.

The one thing I did not do on both cruises was to take note of the wines we ordered each night. I can say both times we were able to find good wines out of the gold wine package.

After dinner DH and I went to the Chorus Line Theater to watch the Welcome Aboard Show. Tonight the comedian was David Orion. He was awesome, had us crying from laughing. He is great at engaging the audience, gearing his comedy to those present. That evening he did a great rendering of a child, voice and everything, and the Chipmunks. Who would have thought we would have laughed so much at the Chipmunks, but when you see a grown man singing and sounding like the Chipmunks you cannot help but laugh.

ry%3D480

After the show we met SIL and BIL at Boleros for some salsa dancing. The music was good. We turned in early as we had to be up for Coco Cay the next morning. We did not go to the 70's show this time.

Saturday morning DH and I were up early to watch the sunrise and arrival to Coco Cay. Our constant companion, the Norwegian Sky was also there as we arrived.

ry%3D480

We were there on the forward most spot on this ship by ourselves for quite a while. The nose of the ship is reserved for the anchoring rigging:

ry%3D480

As we approached Coco Cay the sea was pretty calm, the sky seemed clear, and the tender started approaching our ship after a while.

So, we had breakfast that morning, got our beach towels, and went to the Fitness Center to wait to go as a group to Coco Cay for our yoga class.

Getting on the tender was no trouble, there were no lines at this time.

ry%3D480

ry%3D480

As we arrived we walked toward the volleyball courts to the far side of the island and set up for our yoga class.

ry%3D480

The class was fun and I would do it again, but next time I have to set up close to the instructor, as many times it was hard to hear him. It did drizzle during the class, and he just kept going, though he did say we could stop for a minute to cover our stuff.

After class we found a sheltered spot with four chairs, dropped our things, and I went for a walk.

By this time DH had decided to go back to the ship to get the cheese and bottle of wine we had brought on board. This would have been a very reasonable decision, if the weather had not turned very fast. DH ran to the cabin, got the wine bottle and cheese and ran back down to deck one to head out to the island. By the time he got back in line (yes, by this time there was a line) the same tender he had left 10 minutes ago was getting ready to leave...EMPTY. The captain had just decided that conditions were turning for the worse and nobody else would leave the ship.

ry%3D480

We finally picked up our stuff, as it was getting very windy and rainy and sat at the shack by the dock where the tenders landed, to wait for him and head back on the ship (wait for him, as we did not know at the time no one was getting off the ship. We watched 2 tenders arrive empty and got the message. By then it was pouring rain and the line to leave the island was long.

ry%3D480

We waited for it to stop raining, then got in line to leave Coco Cay. Not what I had planned for that day, as I had had such a wonderful day the last time.

Back on board we went to the Compass Deli to get our crepes.

ry%3D480

Forest Mushroom Crepe

ry%3D480

Chocolate Mousse Crepe (Yumm, yumm, yumm)

ry%3D480

Antipasto from Sorrento's. Delicious!

By the time we finish eating we heard the announcements. They were already implementing "Plan B", we were leaving Coco Cay and heading to Nassau, where we would arrive by 7:00 p.m. We could visit Nassau that night if we wanted to, they explained, and would be there all day Sunday. Schedules were changed, activities moved to accomodate people, and it just happen in a flash. I was very impressed.

ry%3D480

Karaoke on Spectrum. The afternoon movie was moved to the Chorus Line Theatre. Shops on board opened early, and I assume the casino did as well though I did not check.

Well, Rosa, you did it again...a great review with pics....looking forward to the rest. One question.....on the first day, what time was the Welcome Aboard Show? I think there is only one show that day????

I'm asking because we have MTD and I would like to make a reservation before we leave and I'm not sure what time would be good. Also, approximately, how long is dinner? Now I know that it depends on your servers, and how many people are at your table, but I would just like an approximate time. It will just be my husband and myself, so knowing how long it took for four people, I could judge the dining time

Thanks,

Amy

Great reviews! Thank you so much for all of the great pictures and information! My DH and I are going to Miami for a convention and decided to add on a 4 day cruise on the Majesty.

I was wondering if they do the $25 laundry bags? My DH strongly dislikes checking bags because after long flights he doesn't want to wait at baggage claim. We all pick our battles so I'm going to give him this one. :) Packing for 8 days in a carry on will be a challenge but it they offer laundry on the Majesty then it will be a lot easier.

Dalest, you will love Majesty of the Seas. I have only done the 3 day cruise and am looking forward to do the 4 day in the future. I do not remember seeing anything about the laundry bags, but I was not looking for it. There was a coupon in the platinum book but that does not mean that they offer it in Majesty. My husband remembers seeing the laundry/ironing papers in the closet but did not read them either. Have fun in your cruise.

  • 2 weeks later...

After a while watching Karaoke I decided to go take a nap. DH stayed behind. He mentioned that later on Karaoke got really good with other groups joining in.

That night was formal night, so after my nap I got ready for dinner and went down to the Chorus Line Theater to meet my SIL ad join Bingo. The line was LONG. And I could not see her, so I left and walked a while, checked the sales. Listened to music on the Centrum.

Met with DH to go to the Crown and Anchor welcome back event, held at Boleros. It was fun to meet people who have 300+ days at sea. And those ladies are young, don’t know how they do it. There was a couple they called the “dancing diamonds”. Cutest couple could dance to any type of music.

From Boleros we met for dinner at the dining room. Dinner tonight was the Saffron Menu. I had read here I could order an entree as an appetizer, so I decided to give it a try and ordered the Artichoke-Filled Crepes Au Gratin. Excellent choice! These were creamy, cheesy and delicious.

This was a night of repeat dinners as three of us had the Roasted Duck, which was delicious, and DH had the Pan Fried Silver Corvina Filet. He said it was good.

For dessert SIL had the Bittersweet Chocolate Soufflé, which she enjoyed very much. DH had the Sugar-Free Chocolate Pot the Crème, saying it was very good, not so artificially tasting as the Sugar Free Key Lime Pie the previous night. BIL had the Royal Cheese Plate and gave it an A (sorry, did not take a picture) and I had the Low Fat Berry Bliss, which was ok. Overall it was a good dinner. By this time we had realized our waiter was not as sharp on his recommendations as Aries was in our last cruise.

From Dinner we went to the Chorus Line to watch the Captains Welcome aboard reception. Arrived a few minutes late as this started at 7:45 but were able to find good seats and enjoy the show.

This was a fun evening. The Headliner Show was Paul DiMuzio and his wife in a comedy/juggling act. This was a very good show. Started with juggling in the dark to music, where all you could see were these colorful rings flying in the air. It was awesome. Then they turned on the lights and continued with the show and comedy. Would love to see them again.

From this show I took a walk to take some pictures of Nassau. Monarch was docked right next to us. It was great to see the sister ship keeping Majesty company. Later on we got to see it sail away.

I took some more photos of Nassau at night and headed back to Boleros for some salsa dancing. By the second night we had realized it was the same group playing (expected) repeating the same songs in the same order (not expected) so it was kind of strange to be listening to life music and knowing what was coming next.

Then we went to the Love and Marriage show. I said it before and I will say it again. Mitch Merucci is amazing in this game. He knows how to get people to answer. We had the newlyweds with lot of energy, the old timers that had no clue and the middle couple, who were this time so in sink it was uncanny; it had us laughing so much.
