If you don't mind a few memories.

I was the radio operator on a cargo ship, the SS Pacific Victory.

We left San Francisco on June 6, 1951 and arrived in Saigon on June 28, with a cargo of bombs for the French Air Force. Going up the Saigon River the cargo hatches were covered with heavy steel plates to protect them from attacks by the Viet Cong.

Then on to Manila, Yokohama, Long Beach, Panama, Charleston, NYC, Bremerhaven, then back to NYC arriving September 15.

Very interesting. Thanks for sharing.

DH wants to do a cruise that visits many of the WWII sites as he is a history buff. That is on our "list" to do. My uncles were in the Canadian floatillas on D-day in the English Channel. So France may come before the Pacific for us.

My Korea cruise was a one way repositioning cruise in November 1952. Very crowded staterooms, bad service and food. I flew back in February 1953 with a bed all to myself the whole way and brought back some metal souvenirs made in North Korea. Have had no desire to recreate that experience.
