A request to non-smoker with allergies to tobacco

Recommended Posts

If you were on Royal Caribbean, you were doing something wrong, as cigar and pipe smoking is supposed to be restricted to the designated cigar lounge.

Not on all ships. At least when I was on them.

On the Oasis in November it was permitted outdoors (deck 15 I believe). I specifically asked Guests Services.

smoking may cause throat cancer, so does drinking wine, beer or spirits, so can't see how that would help your condition

I am a non smoker - 3 years free - however the smell of drink from some one sends me in to a coughing fit, so can I ask that you move away from me when you are drinking - JMO

If you are in one of the bars---what can you expect. If you are up on deck???? I am an ex-smoker and the smell of smoke really get to me. I have been smoke free for 28 years.

exactly, people that say they have severe, life threatening allergies to cig smoke are misinformed by their 'doctors'. They have a sensitivity. If not, they could simply pop an allergy med or shots for their cruise. If not, and it is life threatening they would be prescribed an epi-pen.

I'll remember to tell my allergy specialist this the next time I have an appointment after having anaphylaxis due to cigarette smoke and need a new prescription because I've just had to used up my epi-pens. Popping a pill and taking shots don't always work. Check your facts!

Do you carry Epinephrine? Have you had trouble getting it on-board?

Yes, I usually travel with 3 or 4 epi-pens and haven't had to source them on-board. Then again, I've never had an attack on-board as I'm extremely careful and will move if I smell smoke. I've learned to deal with it. I minimise the risk, organise private tours when we cruise, ask for a non-smoking vehicle and driver and a warn fellow cruisers who do the tours with us that I am allergic to cigarette smoke.

For those that say to cruise Celebrity, we do at times but RCI is much more fun :D

I read once that there is no such thing as an allergy to cigarette smoke. The article indicated you could have an intolerance to it but that allergic reactions are not the same as an intolerance. Don't know if its true or not to be honest.

I don't smoke but I do respect the idea that if someone is in a smoking area then I can choose to stay away. Most smokers today are quite sensible about smoking I find

Sure as they have the fun group (smokers) onboard.

Disclaimer Non-Smoker here, not fond of smoke, but believe that smokers have the same right to cruise as non-smokers.

That seems to imply that some believe smokers don't have the same "right to cruise" as anyone else, which is silly. Bicyclists also have as much right to cruise as anyone else. That, of course, doesn't mean they have a right to ride their bikes up and down the halls of the cruise ship.

Smokers have a right to cruise, and, as long as RC has designated smoking areas, they also have a right to smoke in those designated areas.

Of course, if RC decided to go totally smoke free, the smokers would still have a right to cruise - just not to smoke while on the ship. Right to smoke and right to cruise are completely different things.

I'm a non-smoker and while I'm not allergic to smoke, my ears get infected when I'm around it too much. However, I go to the casino. It's my choice. That being said, if someone is smoking on the balcony (or another area where it is allowed) I would politely say, 'would you mind moving your cigarette?' I've NEVER had someone react badly to this. I've found that most smokers treat others the way they're treated. Treat them like their lower than you, and they'll act that way.

Now that's a new one, you get an ear infection from cigarette smoke?

love it. I can't stand people drinking and getting drunk, just as much as people don't like my smoking. I'm so sick of hearing it. I will say this though. I will only smoke in designated areas

Please closes this thread.

As a non smoker i think that RCCL have got it right by having indoor areas for smokers and

allowing it on Balconies.

they shoud have bars 3+ inside that are clearly designated smoking so we all have a choice and they can have as well a great holiday.

If you are so hurt by smoke there are plenty of other cruise/holiday companies now that are aimed at you.

Who is being selfish the odd one with an allerige, or the one with a legal addiction.

If you are a shareholder do you want to lose all the couples who travel with partners/friends that still smoke?

all of us are entitled to a holiday and a little give and take is required.

for those zealots what next if all smokers are got ride of!!!,

Bars closed at 11pm? children in there cabins by 9pm? nobody on there balconies after 10pm?? casino closed as i was addicted to gambling? disco to loud?

this last bit is a joke and i still will drive my gas guzzing, poluting 4x4.

finally the can of worms

has anybody checked how many die from passive smoking a year and those shot or are affected by traffic fumes?

please do not answer just close another smoking thread

Yes. absolutely! I am a major shareholder.

I can live with that!

 I would think that as a shareholder you would want the company to drive sales and increase profits by appealing to the widest market possible...

Seems like your investment would be negatively affected by proposing a policy that cuts out a large chunk of potential customers...

Good thing you invested in a cruise line which has wisely chosen to offer products that appeal to both smokers (RCCL) and non-smokes (Celebrity)...

Also a good thing the board of directors isn't making their business decisions based on their personal feelings:)

Just so you know -

Mods do not read each and every thread on these boards; there are literally thousands of threads here and more are being added each day. If you are concerned about a thread, you should use the red triangle alert button in the tip right hand corner of a post.

Maybe they have a designated cigar area outdoors. I haven't been on Oasis yet. But you spoke of deck, balcony and Skybar, so I had the impression you thought that cigars were OK in all smoking areas.
