IS Carnival a good cruise line?

I am older that you are - and have cruised with lots of lines. Carnival is fine. Back in the 80"s - Carnival was a party ship. Now, they seem to have lots of kids, and, older folks, honey mooners, ect ect - You get the picture. The older ships have a sort of Vegas tone to them, I hope your enjoy your cruise- on any ship.

We have been on every Norwegan cruise ship. Thinking of trying Carnival next time. We have heard that Carnival is a party ship. Like to cruise every january. We are in our 50"s Is carnival the cruise line for us?

We also cruise in January and are in our early 70's. You will probably find the "party atmosphere " on the shorter 3 & 4 days cruises.

In January, there are not a lot of kids onboard, and the age of the cruisers may be older.

Go for it. We love Carnival.

DH and I -early 60's late 50's. Of course there is a party atmosphere-but you can at least choose the type of party you want.:) We don't drink-and our party is sitting out at night on the back of the smaller ships, drinking coffee, and watching the moon rise. Our other party is getting up early, grabbing a croissant on the lido and watching the sun rise. We have freinds that do other types of partying, but I rarely see them at sunrise. We love Carnival and a cruise is what you make it.;)

My seventh cruise will be this coming Sunday, a 7 day on the Magic out of Galveston. All my cruises have been on Carnival. I'm 63, not a big drinker or partier, like to spend some time in the Casino, enjoy the trivia games, enjoy finding a quiet spot on the ship to relax and watch the water. I have no desire to try another cruise line. I'm comfortable with Carnival and have enjoyed every one of my cruises. Carnival has something for everyone!

I have sailed twice on Carnival and once with NCL, and my experience with Carnival stacks up favorably with my NCL cruise.

NCL suites are much nicer than Carnival, but Carnival balcony cabins are noticeably larger.

Carnval has better MDR food for both lunch and dinner. What's more, Carnival's lunch menu in MDR changes daily. I was told that NCL's lunch menu stays the same throughout the 7 day cruise.

NCL has better shows in the main theater, and I like the cold towels and ice drinks that NCL provides upon your return to the ship.

If your cabin choice is balcony or lower, I will go with Carnival. If you plan to stay in a suite, go with NCL. Regardless oif which line you chose, you should have an enoyable vacation.

Its ok. If you enjoy different venues for entertainment, find another cruiseline. Bottom line, you get what you pay for.

Carnival would not stay in business if they were not providing some sort of desired value to its customers.

In 18 cruises I have had good and bad experiences. Some of my bad experiences probably would've sworn a first-time Carnival cruiser off of them forever. Depending on their tolerance, of course. Let's face it, someone around here has at some point written off a cruise line for something as silly as not being called by your name by the cabin steward.

You will find those experiences on all lines, not just Carnival. If you're still nervous, stick to newer ships. I think the most important thing to do is be realistic in your expectations. If you're a frequent suite cruiser on NCL, you will be disappointed if you book a suite expecting a butler and a private suite-only pool, and it will probably sour your entire experience.

Carnival works for us. It may or may not work for you. It works for us because of the cost; the food is good to us; the atmosphere is generally lively without being a frat party; our son loves camp, the water slides, and the arcade; we have always been treated equally fantastic regardless of our cabin or the color of our card; we enjoy the whimsical decor, it is upbeat and, well, fun; year-round sailing out of Galveston; and casual atmosphere. It happens to be our favorite, but it doesn't have to be your favorite to enjoy it - we enjoyed Princess's as well, for completely different reasons, and would absolutely sail with them again when that's what we're looking for.

Bottom line is, you'll never know until you try!

Overall they're a good line. I'd pick them for seven day or shorter Caribbean/Pacific Coast cruises since I don't expect much on those runs. I would suggest finding another line for longer, special cruises in the Pacific or in Europe, even if you have to pay more. This is based on excellent experiences with them in the Caribbean and a rotten experience over which they had some control in Europe.

Understand I had a blast on my second cruise with them. I had one small problem with a purchase I made with an excursion company I bought through carnival. I bought an underwater camera because I stupidly left my good underwater camera in the cabin. I wasn't expecting great pictures but one would like it to work. The captain on the boat opened it and winded it for me. Told me how to work it and a few hints.great service! I jump in the water and take pictures, I have a blast and I pack it to head home to get it developed. Only problem... Never worked no pictures at all!

I called customer service and asked them for the contact information to the excursion. I would have had it but once I got on board and we were underway then they informed us that the excursion we had already purchased was no longer available because of being unreliable. I can't get any help.

This is NEVER going to ruin my vacation but it makes me worry ... It they won't assist me in contacting this company... What happens if something major goes wrong?

Just like any vacation, it will be what you make of it. If you look for the party scene, you will find it. If you look for a relaxed, spa scene then you will find it. It's the same as going to a different city for a vacation. You look for what YOU want to do, you can't base your opinions solely on what someone else has written about that place/ship/etc becuase everyone is looking for something different in their vacation and everyone is going to find something different. I say go for it and enjoy it, I've loved the lat 3 we've been on and can't wait for the next!
