The definitive Cheers program Thread

If I am sailing with my boyfriend, and want to pay for his Cheers package, will they let me pay for both on my sail and sign card? Or am I just better off buying him cruise cash to cover it? I'm not anticipating us using the same credit card for our sail and signs is why I ask.

Can anyone tell me the price of a Red Bull and Vodka or Monster and Vodka? Is that type of drink included in the Cheers program?

 

Unfortunately they do not carry Red Bull. To get a Monster and vodka, you will get vodka on the rocks with the program and then pay for a can of Monster separately.

First time cruiser, going on the carnival conquest in a few weeks.. thinking about buying the cheers program. i know its 15 alcoholic drinks under 10 dollars per day.. what if i get a double rum and coke or double vodka and sprite.. i read someone on here previously ordering 'double grey goose bloody marys'.. if you get a double shot does that count as two drinks?.. would a double shot be under 10 dollars still?.. thanks

If you are on a 8 day cruise and you buy it on day two, you will be charged 7 days or 402.00 per person including tip.. you do not pay for the day you leave... If you are on a 8 day cruise say sun-monday... you buy it on Monday the second day..so, its Monday, tuesday, wednesday, thursday, friday, saturday and sunday.. 7 days... you leave on monday

They count it as an 8 night (day) cruise. You get off Monday morning. Sunday to Sunday is considered a 7 'day'.

Cheers included HMC when the program was in 'Beta' test but was discontinued on the island. There is no plan to re-include HMC (or Little Stirrup Cay either).

 

From what I have been told as to why these two are not included is because the servers that work the beach and cabanas still issue manual hand written receipts that are uploaded/posted to the Sail & Sign account once that server returns to the ship and submits their copy of the receipts. I believe the case is similar for the Pirate Ship bar. There they swipe your Sail & Sign card and issue you a receipt, but those transactions are not instantly uploaded/posted to the Sail & Sign account, they are uploaded/posted as a batch once the ship departs the island. Because of this "manual" processing of transactions, the servers are unable to track how many beverages have been purchased/consumed for a person for the day.

There's 2 ways it can be charged. All doubles count as 2 drinks so you would either need to pay for the additional shot as it's within the 5 minutes! Or be charged for the double as it's over $10.

 

The best way is to wait for the 5 minutes and get a shot and pour it in then it's included.

Someone had said that sodas count towards 15. I've recieved a response from carnival with a definitive answer, as I wanted to confirm if maybe some boats have different rules.:

On the EA Sports bar menu, they have a "Double Play" which states it is a double shot of the following (Jim Beam, Bacardi, whatever) for $8.95. Is this valid for Cheers? It seems like it is it's own drink, not like going in and saying I want a double of whiskey

My unqualified opinion would be that it would qualify for Cheers! Although it is advertised as a double shot, it is an specific item on the bar menu under $10.00.

I apologize in advance if this has been addressed before, but I didn't take the time to read through all 63 pages of this thread. I'm a newbie to Cruise Critic & cruising in general and I'm confused by quite a few things.

 

I've seen a lot of "helpful videos" on how to cruise/what to avoid, etc and the majority of those say to stay away from this package.

 

My husband & I are sailing the Miracle 4/25/15 and are considering the Cheers program.....well, at least I am. He doesn't see the benefit & say's "I just won't drink that much" whereas I am all for "order that Jack & Coke, double it if you want" and be done with it (just an example).

 

We do have 3 port days & I think that might be where his concerns lay, but still..........for me, coming back to the ship and having a cocktail or two (double shot or not) won't be out of the question. Personally I'd rather shell out the money ahead of time then to be surprised when it comes time to settle our account.

 

I need to convince him though or do I? I'm so confused! :cool:

You'll have to convince him to get it too as anyone over 21 in a cabin has to purchase. Think about it this way. One mixed drink/daiquiri/whatever is usually just under 10 bucks. It won't take many to break even. No one has to drink 15 drinks every day, but it quickly adds up when you have 2 by the pool, wine at dinner, a drink during the show, etc.

Make an honest assessment of what you would both drink, add up the cost, and see if you at least break even. You don't have to drink 15 a day, just enough for the even point. That might help him decide. Even if there is no savings at least the 'surprise' at the end will be eliminated when you get your sail and sign bill. :p

I don't know if it's worth it for a couple or not as you both have to purchase the program. I bought mine after I sucked down my first beer in 10mins and realized I could easily do that 10 times. I didn't want to have to worry about my bill at the end so I just purchased the program. It made for a much more enjoyable time not having to worry about what kind of bill I was running up. I ended up trying cocktails I normally wouldn't have drank. In room drinks aren't included but you find certain beers that certain bartenders won't open and nobody stops you from carrying it back to your room unopened. I brought home a 6-pack of 16 oz Heinekens. I would suggest not booking an all-inclusive excursion. Do something without alcohol so you can drink on the ship that night. I paid $250 for the program (before gratuity) and my final bill would have been $425 before gratuity. Now my bill wouldn't have been that high had I not bought cheers. You could take off $36 for the beers I brought home. You could take off some of the cocktails I wouldn't have normally bought. I still think I would've hit $250 or more though. Either way it was nice not to have to worry about it. I will figure that cost into my future cruise planning for sure.
