CorvetteLady Posted April 3, 2013 #2 Share Posted April 3, 2013 They are reporting someone is in the water, the crew is still on the ship. There is damage to the aft of the ship, they are just reporting that it is lodged against another ship that is lodged against the bank of the river. I can here it now~ " Worried about Carnival cruise safety..They can't even tie up the ships correctly" I don't even know how to defend it anymore..
celticd1 Posted April 3, 2013 #9 Share Posted April 3, 2013 Did someone curse this cruise line? Well, they are renaming a ship...;)

gtalum Posted April 3, 2013 #11 Share Posted April 3, 2013 Great, more cancelled cruises. At least nobody can blame this on Carnival. BAE's going to be stroking a pretty big check for that...
CorvetteLady Posted April 3, 2013 #12 Share Posted April 3, 2013 One eyewitness said there were very strong winds, the building he was in was shaking.
poison7fl Posted April 3, 2013 #13 Share Posted April 3, 2013 My first thought was OMG! this can't be happening, what luck! Then I thought, yeah it's Carnival... So...How exactly is this Carnival's fault?
spencercoop Posted April 3, 2013 #14 Share Posted April 3, 2013 Great, more cancelled cruises. At least nobody can blame this on Carnival. BAE's going to be stroking a pretty big check for that... I'm sure the news will find some way to blame this on Carnival.

My thoughts exactly. If the ship is in BAE's control, then wouldn't they be responsible??? I wonder how many lines they had out??? Those things are huge and normally there are at least 9 lines out. TomE1963 Posted April 3, 2013 #16 Share Posted April 3, 2013 Local news reported that recorded gusts were up to 71 mph at the Battleship Parkway just less than a mile way. Reports are that there are some bodies in the water so some of the workers may have been hurt. Sounds like itt hit a dredge in the canal as it was being ripped out of it moorings. Pretty amazing that a ship of this size was not morred more securely by BAE. Somebody is going to be in big trouble.
Litewait Posted April 3, 2013 #17 Share Posted April 3, 2013 So...How exactly is this Carnival's fault? But the media will spin it in such away that it is..After all they selected the company thats doing the rebuild ect ect..
TomE1963 Posted April 3, 2013 #18 Share Posted April 3, 2013 Recent news reports are that the people in the water were thrown there from a guard shack which was thrown into the water. One person recovered so far, but no word on fatalities.

joepeka Posted April 3, 2013 #20 Share Posted April 3, 2013 So...How exactly is this Carnival's fault? No one said it was Carnival's fault, just seems to be a continuation of the lousy luck that has fallen upon their ships lately. I like celticd1's explanation: they renamed one of their ships. ;)
Diane and Max Posted April 3, 2013 #21 Share Posted April 3, 2013 Poor Carnival just cannot catch a break! This doesn't affect my thought of cruising on Carnival at all. I have one scheduled in July. Maybe I will get lucky and they will lower prices again? :D

Yeah there were strong winds we had a bad storm come through so honestly it probably was not something they could control, I just thought everyone would like to see it. ashoor Posted April 3, 2013 #24 Share Posted April 3, 2013 I am not familiar with ship terms and technology. Can someone please explain in simple English what and how this happened ? Is it just those giant ropes getting loose? Does that mean that is what keeps the ship docked at the port and that without them, the ship would always be in motion? What about brakes, like you have on cars and planes?
