MORE things Splendor ... NY style!

For anybody who has already gone on the Splendor I have a couple of questions about disembarking.

If you choose Option 2 for disembarking where they call you by Zone numbers you will not know what time you will get off the ship until you get your zone number so how would you arrange pickup that morning? How busy is it if you just get a regular yellow cab. How much does it cost to go from the terminal to JFK for two people. Carnival is offering to do it for $30 per person but it runs from 1PM until 7 PM? Our flight home leaves until 5 PM so I was thinking that maybe we could do a little more sight seeing before we left but we would have all our luggage with us. I would like a high zone number so we could kill some more time on the ship. Is there any system to assigning zone numbers so you could predict your zone number and so what time you would get off the ship?

Zone 29 is the last off the ship. We were Zone 24 and were called around 9:45 AM - 10:00 AM from the main lounge. You also have to allow time to get off the ship and find your luggage in the terminal. If you want a porter, you need to go on the porter line and bring one back with you along with his cart. He will stay with you up to the Customs/Immigration check. At this point, he waits for you off to the side. When you are done, he will take you out to the curb -- level 2 where you originally checked in. This is as far as he is allowed to go.

Just a note, some of the new people for the next sailing were already on board waiting near the shore excursion desk. They may have been Platinum level or in suites. Lunch starts at 11:30 AM in the deli and the rest of the buffet opens up at 12PM.

There were still the self-disembark passengers virtually blocking the elevators on deck 3!:( I was trying to get out of the elevator and make it clear that I was not jumping in front of someone else. The Zone passengers go into the main lounge -- opposite direction from the self-disembark passengers who seem to move much too slowly.

You can always go to the Purser's Desk and request a later zone number.

Anyone ever have a thread not show up? I started a review (of sorts :) ) for my cruise, but it still hasn't shown up. I hate to have to do it over again - ::groan:: :(

If you mean a formal review that you submit to CC, than yes. It takes a day or two for them to OK it before it loads up.

I am going out on the Splendor the end of July.

Am interested in doing a serenity day - can i book this in advance, or is this something i book when i get on the cruise? How much for the day and if u did this was it worth it?

How about lounge chairs - did u have to get up b4 sunrise?

Lisa

As others have mentioned, the Serenity area is free. On the Splendor it is in a fairly weird location (no pool or hot tub). It will be busy during sea days (read that as crowded and hard to find a chair) if you go up at 10:30. That being said, people come go fairly regularly. We enjoy it. On the Spirit class, it is the aft of the ship and has a pool.

Hi Kat:)

My wife & I disembarked the Splendor June 10th after a terrific 16-day

voyage. On June 12th we booked the NY-San Juan / San Juan-NY back to back

for February 13 to March 1, 2015.

Our wedding anniversary is on the 14th, a special Valentine's Day cruise,

we are so excited! Many months to save, and of course having another reservation

helps take away those post cruise blues..

:)

Kat put the bug in my ear, so have been researching the B2B's for 2015 also. I like the 1/12-1/20/15, then the 1/20-1/28/15 cruise. Believe it or not the prices are on parellel to the cruise we booked for 2/21/14 and the ports are SO MUCH BETTER. I just hate to commit to a 16 day cruise so far in advance. Makes me nervous...:o

Lisa, as Kat said, you don't need a reservation for the Serenity area. Every review I have read raves about them, and most people say how hard it is to find a place to sit if you are not there at the crack of dawn. We are not into that too much. We like to be at the main pool or adult pool "where the action is." But we checked out Serenity on the Miracle in Feb. as we stayed on the ship in Nassau and it had recently been added to the ship after dry dock. Fell in love with the place! Clam shells, hammocks, padded lounge chairs. Very nice. We did not sit in Serenity on the Splendor but checked it out and I was a bit disappointed that it is really just padded lounge chairs. And as Kat mentioned, right below a busy area.

Other than the Carnival Sunshine, the Serenity areas on the Spirit Class are the best since they are at the back of the ship and have both hot tubs and a pool. The Serenity area on the Splendor doesn't even have hot tubs!!!

So funny about the Captain's name...I usually don't pay much attention. I absolutely ADORED Capt. Volpi . . . :

I loved Captain Volpi too . . . had him twice on the Miracle.

Very approachable and you could understand him.

I would book that B2B in a heartbeat if I could!!:( Karry, Go for it!! If you are nervous about it, just don't book it at the ES rate in case you change your mind.

When we are on in September, I am booking the B2B Puerto Rico and back January sailing. I want the extra $100 OBC on each leg so I'll wait til I'm on board. I wish they would bring back FCCs!!!!

You and about 10,000 others...me included.

No - I started it as a thread, as others have done in the Carnival forum, with pictures. It never showed up.

Oh, yea...loved those FCC. I honestly think this is one of the worst decisions CCL made. BUT....I must have missed something...you get OBC if you book a cruise while on a cruise? Can you still pick your cabin and book ES? We are going on Splendor again in February (2014) so maybe I will just do some research and if it feels right, I can book the 2015 B2B then. GT is my absolute favorite POC, have never been to Antigua, and we were only in St. Kitts once years ago and DH wasn't feeling well, so we didn't see too much except the monkies!

Those are the ones we are looking at. I thought the prices were really good. I don't want to book so far in advance (it's such a loooong wait!), but I think you have to do it pretty far in advance to get the same room for both legs - which we would want.

DH is worried about snow while we are gone. If we don't clear the sidewalks in 24 hours we get a fine :(. I figure with that much notice we can make some kind of arrangement to get it taken care of!

I'm really really researching this. We always have balconies, but going from NY to PR on the lst leg I would not mind getting an OV if the price was significantly different, and then going into a balcony for the return trip. Believe it or not, the NY to SJ is more expensive than SJ to NY.:confused: Oh, Lordy, I can't let Tucker know we are thinking about this!!!:eek:

Yes, almost all the ships have a Future Cruise Desk and Specialist . . . same deal as the FCC's used to be but you have to book ON A SHIP. You can also get friends and family certificates good for OBC when you book. They are free.

I saw the pics you posted on this thread & was looking forward to your detailed review...BOO HOO! The balcony looks very inviting. I noticed that you are not in any of the pics, but that's what happens when you are the photographer.

No - that's just the chatter about the tour. It has no pics because we weren't allowed cameras or cell phones.

Is there a limit to the number of threads I can start with Splendor in the title :D

Kath, did you forget to hit the submit button!! :D

I ckecked my internet history for the last 2 days. I looked at your pitchures but that was directly from you website. There was a link in your signature for it. The page I was on just before that was HappyChappy's blog. I can't find the thread either.
