Annoying issues on both the Liberty and Victory

I was about to agree with you on your points (well, I don't spend much time in casinos, so can't really comment on #4), but then came your point #9.

Like others have said, it costs more for the ship to speed up, so it must have been an urgent situation--they don't speed up just because they feel like. Air evacs are expensive--I doubt any insurance is going to pay for it unless it's required. I have air evacs as part of my work insurance, but even then, it needs to be deemed necessary by a trained medical professional before it's done. Air evacs on a ship are extremely risky and would only be done if a situation is dire enough that it can't wait for the ship to get to shore even at the increased speed.

Did you know the person who needed to be airlifted off? If not, skuttlebutt and rumors are rampant with any medical emergency on a ship, and more often than not, what you hear is wrong.

And since you're from Manitoba, I will say that I have spent some time in Club Regent playing the slots. I was at no time ever offered a free drink when I was playing.

On the first read, I thought the whine about the photographers was legitimate. Upon reflection? Nope, just a whiny rant.

OP needs to realize that the expected 'tips' aren't tips rather they are how the crew gets paid.

The whole tone of the original post is simply incomprehensible and an indicator of why the country is in trouble.

I was just about to say the same thing. I am from Manitoba and I have never received free drinks at any casino here. We have a similar points system to Carnival where you accumulate points, but not for free drinks - for free meals and merchandise. So I don't really understand where the contempt on free drinks is coming from. The only place I have ever gotten free drinks for gambling is Vegas, and those are usually - depending on the casino - pretty bottom of the barrel drinks unless you're at somewhere like the Wynn or Bellagio. Carnival's drinks are very good quality IMO.

You can be rated at the tables on Carnival, do your homework before complaining. You need to tell them you would like to be rated, so they can track your time playing as well as the dollar amount you have taken from your card. you could always just leave the table once you got your cash without playing at all. Also 1500 pts get you free drinks while in the casino for the rest of your cruise not just 1 drink,

Let me get this straight. You're complaining that the ship sailed fast so they could get within helo range to evacuate a medical emergency?

Really?

Wow!

I was concerned about that complaint also. I guess the OP doesn't like having to pull over to the side of the road when an ambulance goes by either.

Don't get me wrong lots of positives, but people want to know negatives also. Here is what we found.

#1 Photographers. Out of hand... Both ships... They come to you every night at dinner, sometimes twice. Guess what...... We have a camera. If we want a picture, we will get a fellow cruise guest to take a picture!!! And will do the same for them. Out of control.

Photographers taking pictures as you get off the ship at a port.... They slow the line up immensely.

Here is an Idea Carnival, instead of posting every ones picture on a wall, why not make them digital, and allow people to choose pictures either through the interactive TV or a kiosk. The picture wall is a waste of paper and pictures.

#2 Guys burger joint hours of operation and the Mongolian wok.

12pm-6pm and 12pm-3pm.

Really? Why limited hours? Stupid.

#3 Cruise director on Victory should be fired. No direction from "goose" what so ever. Liberty Karl with a K was outstanding.

#4 Being made to feel guilty by the pursers desk staff because we elected to take auto tips off. We did tip generously, and yes we know it goes to all the staff, but TIPS are for good service. I don't TIP till I see the service. Just my opinion, but the staff behind the desk were very rude when we took the auto tip function off. Also you have to wait almost two days into the cruise to take it off.

#5 Casino Goers....... My GF played slots for 40 min throughout the whole cruise. She received 77 points towards a drink. I believe you need 1500 points for a free drink. I played close to $250.00-$300.00 per night on the blackjack table, and at the end of the cruise received 77 points!!! They take your card every time you get money to play off your sail and sign card, so they do track your play. Its a rip off. Any real casino will bring drinks while you play, but not Carnival.

#6 Free drink that you get for multiple cruisers. We received out certificate for the free drinks, LMAO you can only use it for breakfast or lunch and only at he Atrium lounge. STUPID. Carnival can't even give returning guests a gift without putting restrictions on it.....

#7 On Liberty, free drink tasting at the shops. A guy tells you hes gonna get you drunk, come drink for free, come taste test. LMAO... The scam here is you only get one shot, then you have to go to the back of the line which is 500 people deep to get another shot. They advertise a specific liqueur on sale at that particular point. You have to buy it NOW to get the deal. LMAO, no you don't, it was on sale till the end of the month in the brochure.

#8 Swarovski crystal in the shops. Shows 10% off all figurines. Swarovski retailers are NOT allowed to put figurines on sale. They never do. This was confirmed by Swarovski retailers in Grand Cayman, and in my home town.

#9 While on board the Victory on the last day on the ship "fun day at sea" the whole ship was sick. The boat was travelling at a high rate of speed. Little did we know there was a reason for this. The needed to get closer to Miami fast as they has a sick person who needed to be air lifted via chopper off the ship. So they compromised the whole ships passengers and everyone was sick due to the high seas and them going like a bat out of hell to get close enough fast for this air rescue. March 8th Carnival Victory. I'm sure other passengers have commented about this.

Carnival is the only cruise line I have travelled with, This is just a few of the issues we had. There was positives, but that's for another post.

IN RED!..

1. So it would have been better to let a person in such serious medical condition to warrant a air lift, to suffer or even possibly die just so you could be comfortable?

BYW, they don't air lift for a broke arm, unless its seriously damaged.

2. Please advise this magical way you have to get the person close enough to the Helo range, other then higher speed?

3. Please tell me your sea going experience that lets you determine the speed of the vessel in anyway caused undue rolling or pitching?

In other words....SHAME on you!

BTW we were told the person had a broken arm....

Airlifted for a broken arm????

and yes, you are complaining about getting sick in order to get a seriously sick person off the ship quickly...I don't find that at all 'cruise informative', just 'poster informative'.

Done by Royal Caribbean, NCL and Princess (I see them taking pictures as you get off the ship with other lines that I have not sailed) NCL does not do the MDR photos as much but they do the others.

I asked the photo rep on the last Carnival ship about digitally making the photos available, they did that on the Dream 3 years ago, and he gave a reasonable answer. People purchase more pictures if the see them than will use a Kiosk (for the record I agree they could save a lot of paper).

#2 Guys burger joint hours of operation and the Mongolian wok.

12pm-6pm and 12pm-3pm.

Really? Why limited hours? Stupid.

Because a lot of people are not going to use those venues at dinner time or Carnival may not what the competition.

#3 Cruise director on Victory should be fired. No direction from "goose" what so ever. Liberty Karl with a K was outstanding.

Not into cruise directors, could care less. As long as they have list of things for me to do all day and evening... Karl with a K was one of the more enjoyable CD's.

Mine field, not going there.:eek::eek::eek::eek:

You're in for a rude awakening, it's the same on the other cruise lines. ;)

Other passangers said the lady broke her arm the previous night on the LIDO deck dancing. So NO it wasn't Carnival who told us what happened, but they did announce the "lady was being airlifted to Miami hospital". So they DID tell us it was a woman, and the broken arm story is TRUE. So if you think getting 3000 passengers sick over a broken arm is good with you and you feel you got your moneys worth, all the power to ya. How would you like to be sick just before going to a nice port because of this? What if it ruined your vacation? So many cheer leaders for Carnival on this site its stupid......

You may say it's just a broken arm but there could be much more going on, and as I am sure you are not a doctor I don't think you get to make the call as to whether the patient needed to be airlifted or not. Maybe it was a compound fracture and surgery was needed. Maybe there was a fat embolism and her life was in serious danger. Maybe she fell and broke her arm because she had a stroke or a cardiac arrest. It could be for lots of reasons. Whatever the reason I am pretty sure the decision to airlift her was not taken lightly. I am also pretty sure she is glad you weren't the captain, what with your selfish uncaring attitude.

I had a high school friend die from a heart attack she had on a Carnival Cruise last week. She had been in the hospital since around the time of the cruise the OP posted about. I feel like she might be the one that was airlifted. She had been unconscious since her heart attack. 51 years old.

Wow, I bet this thread didn't turn out how the OP expected. But as soon as I saw they got the auto tip removed and the other thread about making a big deal about $4.75 refund I knew exactly what kind of people they were....and I hope I never run into them.

I had forgotten about the $4.75 refund that the OP went on & on about. That was the Carnival steals your money post, right?

Yep, steals your money and gives it to charity if it is under $5.

Yep, that was the one. OP was not out of line at all about that by the way...I'm astonished at how many people "dog-piled" him for being indignant. If "somebody" picked my pocket for $5 with the intention of donating it to charity, it's still theft. This is an absolutely rediculous practise on Carnival's part. How about the next time you buy $15.25 worth of merchandise at your local department store and pay with a $20 they refuse to give you change? They promise to donate it to a worthy cause (on their own behalf)...that's fine with you, right? There was a very astute post in that thread about where the funds for the "Shareholders One-Time Donation Perk" was coming from. Those "beards" at CCL are clearly genius at playing both ends against the middle.
